POPSFALSE FLAGS What foreign threat did they envisage as the United States’ most deadly enemy? Actually, the founding fathers believed one of our biggest enemies would rise from within: apathetic ignorance. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” One hundred and forty-five years later, President Eisenhower echoed Jefferson’s fear when he left office in 1961: In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and

POPSThe "patron saint of Troublemakers" :) " Blessed Mary MacKillop, the Australian nun once excommunicated and now beatified, is on her way to canonization. Is she the patron saint of troublemakers? Excommunicated today, canonized tomorrow, says John Allen, puckishly. For me, the best part of her story is how the church itself understands that sometimes even the holiest among us are occasionally at loggerheads with church leadership. (Cf. St. Mother Theodore Guerin)".

POPSMcAfee SiteAdviser Changes Rating for Clipmarks Surprising...This changed on the latest McAfee update. This is a big deal. For those who have McAfee anti-viral software, and the Firefox add on website monitor, the browser add-on now flashes RED when loading Clipmarks (like spam or phishing sites that you quickly avoid), which always used to be GREEN and safe. This will chase away new users, and possibly current ones if they believe the site is compromising their security and privacy.

POPSLittle Girl Bites Her Baby-Sister to Death While Parents Sleep The mother of the killed child told the police that she and her husband had drunk alcohol together and fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw the elder girl playing with her little sister on the floor. The baby was not moving, nor was she showing any reaction to anything. The woman called the ambulance. The parents are criminally negligent IMO. You just do NOT get plastered, while having children in your care!

POPSHopenchangen: Shrieking socialists, chicken littles wrapping up a complete waste of time Nothing like several feet of snow at a conference where the impotent choir boys are screaming about their warming globes. Looking forward to another global gerbil warming warning paper from the scientists. Maybe it will coincide with next years' Earth Day misery meeting. "-- It's About the What Kind of People We Want to Be " Note to Liberals: There are actual big problems that could use solving, like Iran getting nukes and keeping the Taliban from taking over in Afghanistan. If that’s too big for you, you can warm your globes on your own time with your own money. I know things that don’t result in a bigger government pushing people around don’t tend to interest you, but give it your consideration, please.

POPSMeet Japan's First Western Geisha "Sayuki denies she's a flawless example of Japan's ancient flower and willow world. "Being a geisha takes a lifetime to perfect," she deflects, as she clacks along in lacquer sandals that she wears slightly too small to make her size-8 feet look more petite. Sayuki, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, became the first foreign woman in the notoriously closed profession's 400-year history to formally debut as a geisha two years ago, in late 2007. "I've only just begun," she says. "To many of my geisha sisters, I'm still a walking disaster." Read it all here: http://www.marieclaire.com/world-reports/news/japans-western-geisha Long article, but interesting.

POPSThe painful life of a football player...years later. Though i suppose it shouldn't be surprising, to read the stories of former professional football players - who can barely move and live in constant pain - is extremely disturbing. It seems disgusting that the NFL has turned their back on them. I'm a huge football fan, but i have to admit that i feel uncomfortable being a fan of a sport that will end up leaving so many men practically disabled.
