POPSNBC's Zucker: The Industry's Punching Bag Though Zucker's resume includes far more successes (cable, news, today show) than it does failures (prime-time), he is most associated with NBC' prime-time problems and will remain a press pinata until the network climbs out of the ratings basement -- or Comcast brass replace him, whichever comes first.

POPSsmARThistory For years we have been dissatisfied with the large expensive art history textbook. We found that they were difficult for many students, contained too many images, and just were not particularly engaging. In addition, we had found the web resources developed by publishers to be woefully uncreative. We had developed quite a bit of content for our online Western art history courses and we had also created many podcasts, and a few screencasts for our smARThistory blog. So, it finally occurred to us, why not use the personal voice that we use when we teach online, along with the multimedia we had already created for our blog and for our courses, to create a more engaging "web-book" that could be used in conjunction with art history survey courses. We are also committed to joining the growing number of teachers who make their content freely available on the web.

POPSGood books on holistic & naturopathic cat health When you're looking for nonfiction reference books, it's useful to have a test question or concept to look for. Basically, "if it includes x , it's probably got decent information; if it includes y , it's no good." (For dictionaries, I like the word "chthonic".) One such test for cat care books for me is the question of vaccinations. If a book says "revaccinate annually" and doesn't even mention that there are questions about whether that's safe, much less necessary, it's giving dangerous and outdated advice.

POPSJewish Columnist: "Yes, We Control Hollywood"
Of course only a Jewish columnist could write this without being called anti-semitic. He is eager to set the record straight, and the article illustrates how PC fear has power to distort the truth of what people (feel permitted to) believe or say. He continues: The Jews are so dominant, I had to scour the trades to come up with six Gentiles in high positions at entertainment companies. When I called them to talk about their incredible advancement, five of them refused to talk to me, apparently out of fear of insulting Jews . The sixth, AMC President Charlie Collier, turned out to be Jewish. As a proud Jew, I want America to know about our accomplishment. Yes, we control Hollywood. ... So I've taken it upon myself to re-convince America that Jews run Hollywood by launching a public relations campaign, because that's what we do best. I'm weighing several slogans, ..."Hollywood: More Jewish than ever!" So it's okay now, you can say it, and its true.

POPSJay Leno, Same Network, New Time Slot Details of Mr. Leno’s agreement and the new show were provided by NBC executives who were briefed on the matter and who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the project until the network made its announcement. The new show, which will begin next fall, is expected to be set in Mr. Leno’s long-time studio in Burbank, Calif. Mr. Leno is expected to retain many of the most popular elements of his “Tonight Show,” including his monologue and bits like “Headlines” and “Jay Walking.”

POPSHeard on the Hill: Rollcall News: Senator Chris Matthews? Saying What Holly-wouldn’t. Sunday’s screening of the Hollywood-goes-conservative film “An American Carol” brought out some of the movie’s principals, including Kevin Farley (brother of the late “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Chris Farley), Jon Voight and producer David Zucker, for some conservative laughs. Actor and outspoken Republican Kelsey Grammer, who plays Gen. George Patton in the film, appeared in a video to address the crowd. Grammer, who recently had a heart attack, got applause from the audience when he told them that “against doctor’s orders, I watched a little of the coronation coverage. I mean convention coverage,” referring to the Democrats’ Denver confab in which they named Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) their main man.

POPSStill No CEO Whoever the next CEO, he had better bring big ideas to the table. It's going to take more than Vin Diesel's name on the cover to boost sales, especially in the wake of Grand Theft Auto IV.
