POPSOpenning the door for genetic markets 1) The new regulations do not cover cloned animals, most pets or research animals. The FDA has already determined that clones -- genetic replicas -- are safe. Pets and research animals are unlikely to enter the food chain 2) Only one genetically engineered animal is now being sold in the United States, the glow-in-the-dark zebra fish for aquariums. The FDA approved it because it is not eaten and its need for warm water effectively precludes its escape into the wild 3) Technically, it is not the modified animals but the added DNA segments that are considered drugs

POPSgreen black white No matter how bold you go with color in your spaces, remember to use the basics to tie it all together. This guest bedroom suite, found in HGTV's Dream Home 2008, makes a strong color statement. But it's the white and black that makes it livable. Interior designer Linda Woodrum says "the color is my favorite part of the room. It's strong but appealing, and it's balanced by the blacks and whites." Our picks for easy black and white accents include zebra-striped rugs, black frames and sheer white curtains.

POPSThe Okapi - the mythical 'African unicorn' "At the beginning of this century the okapi attained near-mythical status, with its ability to lick its own eyes, its large rounded ears with extremely acute hearing and its stripey hind legs. It was one of several animals belived to include the unicorn that roamed the deepest parts of the jungle but could not be caught by man. Phillip Gosse's book The Romance of Natural History, published in 1861, mentioned evidence of the okapi and some speculated that he had found evidence of the unicorn. It was not until 1901 that the okapi was fully understood and given its name."

POPSZebra Cake recipe and technique Put 3 tbsp of vanilla batter into the center of the pan and let it spread slightly on its own. Put 3 tbsp of chocolate batter in the center of the vanilla. It will push out the other batter and, as it sits for a moment, will also spread itself. Alternating spoonfuls of the two batters, repeat the technique until all the batter has been used up. Bake for 38-42 minutes, until the cake is light gold and a tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then turn out the cake and remove the parchment paper. Reinvert on to a wire rack and let cool before slicing.
