POPSDigital Divide - Is it the Chicken or the Egg? I've read a lot about the so called digital divide a lot in various news outlets and agree, it's definitely a real issue and one that needs to be addressed. However, this article made me think whether or not having access to the Internet is the issue. Especially when I see the statistic that only 29% of people who haven't graduated high school have Internet access. Is the real issue education? Is it not that some groups don't have access to the Internet, but that the lack of quality education they receive leads them to not realize or understand why access to information on the net is so valuable? I don't know the answer to the question, but I do know our public school systems are terrible in many places. Maybe we need to focus on educating our youth. If we don't, even if they do get Internet access, what will they really do with it?

POPSNow, The Bad News Well, what can I say? I married young, and it's lasted all these years. Then again "my guy" and I were responsible enough to use birth control before marriage and until we were able to afford any children. Of course Palin will help out daughter with the affording part, so it's all good baby. I remember listening to the priest before we got married giving us the big talk about the "rhythm" method; and I was thinking I can't wait to get my rhythm on later baby and I bet he can't either!

POPSYouth, violence, illiteracy The lack of functional literacy is blamed for violence amongst young people, leaving them unable to respond effectively emotionally laden situations. It is suggested that an emphasis on testing and targets leads to teachers providing a minimal imput wrt literacy skills.

POPSPalin For Vice President: Palin on the Issues
SMALL BUSINESS – “As Mayor and CEO of the booming city of Wasilla, my team invited investment and encouraged business growth by eliminating small business inventory taxes, eliminated personal property taxes, reduced real property tax mill levies every year I was in office, reduced fees, and built the infrastructure our businesses needed to grow and prosper.” MILITARY - “I respect our military personnel and understand the importance of Alaska's National Guard. As I watched our military men and women being deployed I recognized how important it is for their families to know how much Alaska and America support them.” HEALTH CARE – “I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. I also support patients in their rightful demands to have access to full medical billing information.”

POPSWhat Palin Does 9.Democrats used to raising charges of racism against Obama’s critics may face charges of sexism and/or condescension if they try to diss her. 10. Steps on Obama’s claims to have been a reformer, as he reformed nothing (much less the corrupt mare’s nest of Chicago arrangements), while she was a dragon-slayer up in Alaska. 11. As a mother of five, one a Down Syndrome baby, helps her side take on the Democrats on abortion extremism and the Born Alive bill. 12. Reignites the deep and unhealed stresses inside the Democrats, some of whom will now wonder more loudly than ever why they didn't pick Hillary. 13. Counters Michelle in a way Cindy couldn’t. 14. Counter-intuitively, makes the issue of Obama’s light resume more potent than ever. Her lack of experience is no more than his is. And he’s--to use a term from Alaska, and the Iditarod--their lead dog.

POPSGov. Sarah Palin: On The Issues New Alaska Governor Is Strong Conservative Economy: She supports reducing property taxes and taxes for small businesses to grow the economy. Climate: However, she has been a vocal critic of scientists who suggest that climate change is leading to the decrease in polar bears in Alaska. She has also threatened to sue to have polar bears not listed as a threatened species. Immigration: Being that her state only borders Canada and is thousands of miles from the Mexican border, Palin has not often expressed her views publicly on illegal immigration. Health Care: According to her campaign Web site, Palin supports flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care. She believes it will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. Palin also feels patients should have access to full medical billing information. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXzY1FvYpnE YouTube: 10:19

POPSWhat a Great Message to Send to Kids
I have to say, this story is a perfect example of the wrong message we've been sending to kids for years. As a former HS teacher, I've experienced first hand how kids now have an expectation that they all should be rewarded, all should succeed, and all should be entitled to and given everything they want. Parents don't want this kid to play not because they're afraid he'll hurt their kids physically, but because they're afraid their kids won't succeed. Instead of teaching the message that sometimes in life you encounter obstacles and need to work harder to overcome them, this story teaches kids if you encounter an obstacle, it's the obstacles fault and you can just give up. In other words, you shouldn't expect to have to work hard to achieve what you want in life - it should just be given to you. Some say it's too early to teach that lesson, but I say it's never too early. This is a perfect opportunity to teach your kids how hard work can pay off and lead to success.

POPSChildren for sale Child abus is endemic and should be stamped out. This investigation in Australia reinforces convictions that everyone involved in child crime, and here I include those politicians who want to remove child protection matters by the reduction of the age of sexual consent, should be given no leniency at all. There can be no mitigation when the damage done to all innocent families is so extensive.

POPSSuspicion of Capitalism What ideas and ideals are needed for freedom to flourish? History offers no better answer than the American story. Two centuries ago, the Founding Fathers blazed the path to a capitalist future by creating a nation based on the individual's right to life, liberty, property and the selfish pursuit of his own personal happiness. For the first time, a nation's social system embodied approval of profit-seeking, the lifeblood of capitalism. America's founding principles, all but forgotten today, facilitated the explosive economic globalization of the 19th century and remain our only hope for freedom in the 21st century.
