POPSTrains Accident Statistics Train accidents happen for many reasons. Railroad crossings may be littered with debris, rail lines may be obstructed, mechanism failure, or simple human error can be at fault when a train derails or slams into a car. Whenever there is a train wreck, serious personal injuries can occur due to the massive bulk and weight of trains. The extensive damage caused by train and railroad accidents can cause great losses of property and human life. In a statistical study released by the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the administration found that there are 2,547 train accidents annually.

POPS Examples Of What Not To Do at The Heartland Institute. "Not only has it failed to cover many people, but all the false promises surrounding it have distracted Maine from doing anything that would actually help improve the situation." 'Costly, Ineffective Failure' "Maine has one of the highest state and local tax burdens. We should not be adding more taxes for this boondoggle, particularly at a time when Maine families are struggling with record high gas and heating oil prices and an uncertain economy." Past a 'Train Wreck' John Garven, president-elect of the Illinois State Association of Health Underwriters, concurs. "Dirigo is the more 'mature' of the * two programs, and it is already past the train wreck stage ." * Massachusetts 'universal health care' schemes Maine Residents Angered by Expansion of Dirigo Program Subsidy

POPSCalifornia Car Accident Lawyer Advises Accident Victims To Beware Of Insurance Adjusters It is in the best interest of most accident victims to consult with a California car accident attorney. After an accident, most victims are under the impression that their insurance company will fight for you. This is where many victims have been misled. Insurance companies are for-profit organizations. To maximize their profits they want to pay out as little money as possible. Insurance companies have well trained adjusters who are motivated to withhold payment.

POPSYou Can't Have A Picnic Without Ants. “Don’t feed the troll” Simple and surefire rule. Trolls feed on your reactions. Ignore them. Put comments under moderation. This way you can approve or disapprove of inappropriate comments. Don’t be overly sensitive just because they go against what you stood for. Debate is healthy. Ban them. If you have persistent trolls, you might just want to block them. This way they will not be able to wreck havoc as they please. If you remove a post, aren't you preventing free speech? Discussion boards are by design a forum for open communication, a place where the community is encouraged to freely discuss its opinions. Only remove troll posts when they become disruptive to open communication. A troll is actually silencing the voice of a majority of the community members. Ask the troll to take their comments elsewhere.

POPSHave you seen this Microsoft House Party Video
Whoa. This thing is dreadful. It's borderline uncomfortable. But I like a good train wreck, so I watched the whole thing. Microsoft is trying to build organic word-of-mouth by encouraging people to host their own Windows 7 parties in their own house. Consumers are encouraged to invite people over and show them how to use the new software in non-threatening environment. It's a good idea in theory, but as it usually is with anything else in marketing - it's all in the execution. Mistake #1: They're trying too damn hard. It's so painfully obvious that the actors were coached to present the information in a very informal, conversational way. Why not have REAL people learn the software and present it in a REAL way? If you don't want to do that - train the actors on the software and have them present it in their REAL voice. Mistake #2: What about some REAL party footage? Ok, if you want to communicate all of the key points via these actors, fine. But show me some real footag

POPSTeasers for the Coming Seasons What's a Cake Wreck? A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places. Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;) - Jen

POPSCalif. Lawyer Who Challenged Obama Citizenship Fined $20,000
For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of watching one of her press conferences, then you can't truly appreciate the "train wreck" that is Orly Taitz, Attorney-at-Law. Ms. Taitz is a leader in the so-called "Birther Movement," the movement that challenges President Obama's right to hold office on the grounds that he is not a U.S. citizen. The ABA Journal Law News Now reports that a federal judge in Georgia fined Taitz $20,000 for her wild accusations in court and ordered her not to pursue any further frivolous actions in court - ever. In my opinion, this should render Taitz unable to practice law. Not to be dissuaded, Taitz filed a motion for reconsideration the next day. This motion was apparently denied, the judge writing, “Counsel’s wild accusations may be protected by the First Amendment when she makes them on her blog or in her press conferences, but the federal courts are reserved for hearing genuine legal disputes, not as a platform for political rhetoric and

POPSThe Pain That Doesn't Go Away "The nucleus accumbens is associated with other kinds of longing — for alcohol and drugs — and is more dense in the neurotransmitter dopamine than in serotonin. That raises two interesting questions: Could memories of a loved one have addictive qualities in some people? And might there be a more effective treatment for this kind of suffering than the usual antidepressants, whose target is serotonin?"

POPSJust Like in the Movies: Car Flies Into House The only individual home in the house was asleep on the couch and was not injured. The passenger was able to walk away from the wreck as well without injury. Only the driver was physically injured with small injuries to report. It is by far the home that has suffered the worst from the ordeal. With a gaping hole torn all the way down the front of the house, the house will be sorely out of commission for some time. Images of the scene show scraps of wood surrounding the Jeep as it sits nicely in the foyer. Art still hangs on the wall along the interior clearly visible from the street. The large home is almost ripped in half by the vehicle.

POPSAl Qaeda Takes Credit for Last Week's Baghdad Bombings Since the attack, Maliki has ordered the concrete blast walls to be put back up around sensitive sites, and the military has arrested 11 officers for negligence or aiding in the attack. The Iraqi government has accused both al Qaeda in Iraq and former Ba'athists operating from Syria of conducting the attack. On Aug. 23, state-run television aired the confession of a senior member of the Ba'ath party who is accused of masterminding the attacks. The suspect claimed he was a former policeman in Miqdadiyah in eastern Diyala province, a region that has served as a bastion for al Qaeda in Iraq. He said the attackers paid $10,000 in bribes to ensure that their trucks would pass through checkpoints into Baghdad. The attack was ordered by a senior Ba'ath official based in Syria. Today, the Iraqi government asked Syria to turn over senior Ba'athists Sattam Farhan and Mohammad Younis al Ahmed for their involvement in last week's bombings.

POPS'I'm the guy who received your son's heart' Mark Phillips was a 21-year-old graduate of York Tech. He worked as a diesel mechanic, but wanted to drive big rigs. He was working in that direction when the accident occurred. On Sept. 22, 2007, he was riding his Yamaha V Star on Route 30, heading toward Gettysburg, with his best friend and his father. He wasn't feeling well and was lagging behind when the two other riders made it through the light at Kenneth Road. A witness later told police that it looked like his motorcycle folded. It didn't. It flipped. His mother suspects that he became ill, threw up and while doing that, gripped the front brake too hard, causing the bike to flip. He wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered extensive brain injuries.
