Legal Translation & Jurisdiction
jillsimpson01
by jillsimpson01  11-8-2009
The large freedoms that the Internet provides, allows criminals to take advantage of millions of users each year. Policing and prosecuting internet criminals is very expensive and difficult for many reasons. This is because criminals maybe located throughout the world and their criminal activity may only been conducted in a particular country or municipality and communications maybe routed through several countries. As a result, there are often jurisdictional problems that require the involvement of local, state, and federal offices in addition to legal translation workers and all foreign governments involved in the crime

Enumerated Powers Act: Interview with Walter E. Williams
merrie
by merrie  11-6-2009    2
who has introduced it every Congress since 1995, it does not allow them to get away with the Commerce Clause and the General Welfare Clause. They have to specifically point in the Constitution where they get the authority. And as a matter of fact the reason the Enumerated Powers Act’s maximum number of co-sponsors in the House has been 31, or it could be a bit higher than that (and it has never had a co-sponsor in the Senate until this year) is that the Congressmen can read the writing on the wall. If Congress were forced to obey the United States Constitution, then I would say that two-thirds to three-quarters of all the spending Congress does would be found to be unconstitutional. ALL RIGHT MAGAZINE: You’re probably right about that. Article 1, Section 8 has a very short list of things government is able to do according to the word of the law. WALTER E. WILLIAMS: That’s right, and if you read the Founders’ statements, they say that Congress can only do those things....

Sorry Ass News For A Sunday Morning
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  11-1-2009    1
Did you ever pick up a newspaper and wished you hadn't? Well that's what happened to me this morning. It wasn't an actual real time Newspaper but in today's world it was a Newsdig but I still wished that I hadn't clicked! First it was a, Health Care {NO} Reform won by the Health Care and insurance Industry. Then the gloom and doom news from Afghanistan. It's enough to make you put on a pair of rose colored glasses or stick your head in the sand. But alas, I can't do that, because then I would become part of the (Sarah Palin - Michele Bachmann et al ) crazy lunatic fringe mob on the right!

"Truth to Power" by Mark Steyn
merrie
by merrie  11-1-2009    3
He came; he saw; he stimulated: “If you accept the premise, and I do, that the United States is the most powerful country in the world, then Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar. That has to be good for American artists.” I suppose so. He could invade somewhere and force the natives to accept degrading roles in NEA-funded performance art. He could take out the Iranian nuclear program by carpet-bombing it with unreadable literary novels. That is, if you “accept the premise” that the United States is the most powerful country in the world. Rocco Landesman may, but it’s not clear, from his actions (or inactions) in Eastern Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, that the president does. But, even so, it seems an odd pitch to “American artists.” Rocco Landesman, Speaking Goof to Power, isn’t the first Obama groupie to enjoy the kinky frisson of groveling obsequiousness, but he’s set an impressive new standard in public revelation thereof.

I Blame Bush. And Global Warming.
merrie
by merrie  10-26-2009
I on behalf of the residents went to the Suizhong Power Supply Bureau and Urban Construction Bureau to submit our petitions. However the results were various departments knowing the issues but pointed fingers to each other, no one stepped up to do anything. In the end, I reluctantly went to the county government. After several twists and turns, the county finally agreed to see us, but only limited to 5 minutes. After listened to our situation, supposedly the county government were to direct the urban construction bureau to resolve the issues. But more than two months had passed and nothing was done. When we asked the county again, the response from the county government was “we are in the process of contacting the relevant department”, asking us to wait longer. We were left with no choice and thought about the Internet. Netizens please support our 12 families and over 40 people, wake up those government officials, to solve our real problems!

Swine Flu - Child Killer!
foxyarse
by foxyarse  10-26-2009
During her four month long hospital stay, Aubrey Opdyke experienced 6 lung collapses and detrimental seizures. She spent 5 long weeks in coma. She blew up like a balloon, due to high-pressure ventilation until "she looked like she weighed 400 pounds," said Bryan Opdyke, Aubrey's husband. Many families have faced derivative health problems due to swine flu. Several infants have died and parents have been left to face the horror. But, seldom do they volunteer to come out in the open and let the world know of the terrible ordeal that they have endured. The Opdykes chose to avoid a life of silence because they "wanted to get it out there, how dangerous it could be." Mr. Opdyke said, "We have friends who get flu symptoms and say, 'Oh, I’m not going to a doctor,' and we say, ‘Do you not understand what we went through?’ I can’t imagine why there’s so much nonchalance." It may be tiresome and difficult for them to tell everybody about how their 4 year old daughter, Hope, lost her sister

Blaming the Poor
Socratoad
by Socratoad  10-21-2009    1
A paper published yesterday in the journal Environment and Urbanization shows that the places where population has been growing fastest are those in which carbon dioxide has been growing most slowly, and vice versa. Between 1980 and 2005, for instance, sub-Saharan Africa produced 18.5% of the world's population growth and just 2.4% of the growth in CO2. North America turned out only 4% of the extra people, but 14% of the extra emissions. Sixty-three percent of the world's population growth happened in places with very low emissions. Even this does not capture it. The paper points out that about one sixth of the world's population is so poor that it produces no significant emissions at all. This is also the group whose growth rate is likely to be highest. Households in India earning less than 3,000 rupees (£40) a month use a fifth of the electricity per head and one seventh of the transport fuel of households earning 30,000 rupees or more. Street sleepers use almost nothing. Those wh

The Rise Of India Theme Walt Disney World Parks
dslacademy
by dslacademy  10-14-2009
Unfortunately, for the Walt Disney World Parks Company this did not quiet materialise. The first sign of problems was when French locals started holding protests – due to concerns the park was going to damage and dilute the proud local culture. These protests partly led to crowds in the opening year falling drastically lower than predictions. India Disney also had to deal with the problems of an excess of under-populated hotels which had ran drastically over budget. This combined with high prices led to the closure of hotels during the winter months. By the start of 1994, India Disney was in serious financial difficulties and press speculation indicated that the park was on the verge of bankruptcy.

WH Science Czar John Holdren: Ice Age Will Kill 1 Billion
merrie
by merrie  10-11-2009    1
Holdren and Ehrlich had previously articulated the theory in their 1973 textbook "Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions" in which they argued on page 198 that the main effect of carbon-dioxide-induced global warming "might be to speed up circulation patterns and to bring arctic cold farther south and Antarctic cold farther north." On page 377, the authors returned to their constant theme: The only way to control a foreseen increasing global food crisis was to control population. Noting that a 1967 presidential science advisory commission had concluded that the solution to the "world food problem" likely after 1985 "demands that programs of population control be initiated now." (Emphasis in original text.) Commenting on the conclusions of the 1967 presidential advisory report, the authors wrote, "We emphatically agreed then, and the situation is even more urgent today." A controversial report released earlier this month by the Congressional Budget Office, or CBO,

Trying to create a giant bureaucracy is now a “fight against death”
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  10-10-2009
In Olbermann’s fight against death, death won and claimed his audience’s brain cells. A "fight against death." I guess that’s kind of like how sorting out your bottles and cans from the trash is “saving the world.” Note to Liberals: There are actual big problems that could use solving, like Iran getting nukes and keeping the Taliban from taking over in Afghanistan. If that’s too big for you, you can help the needy with your own time and money. I know things that don’t result in a bigger government pushing people around don’t tend to interest you, but give it your consideration, please.
