POPSCell phone contraversy may end This UK study is the largest and most thorough of its kind. I know how the cellphone industry will react. As for myself, I continue to use my cellphone with the speaker on, rather hold it close to my ear.

POPSAmerican Beef Got to be Imported No Matter Which Political Party (Nationalists or DPP) is in Power.
POPSWorld Vision Development Foundation in the Philippines When the country was hit by typhoon Agnes in 1984, it launched a relief project that supplied food, housing materials, tools, medicines and bibles to about 25,000 affected people. Families also received loans for seed, fishing nets and new boats, and provided a food-forwork program that offered wages and tools for carpenters to help rebuild coastal homes.

POPSInstead of calling it swine flu, maybe they should call it WHO flu Why would the WHO call H1N1 a pandemic? It obviously has not come anywhere near to being as wide-spread as predicted. Is it politically motivated? Anyone have any ideas? I don’t generally go in for conspiracy theories except to muddy the waters, but I’m thinking this could have been a test to see how many people get behind what the government tells us to do. Or, the government will say that the pandemic was stopped because so many people took the vaccine. Whatever. Now, a real conspiracy theorist would say that the vaccine was an excuse to inject a tracking device in us. :)

POPSThe World's Most Dangerous Job? He worked for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, an international agency charged with uncovering illicit nuclear tests. A UN spokesman in the Austrian capital said there were no "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the man's death, while a police spokesman said that no other person was believed to have been involved. No suicide note has been found.

POPSWorld Radon Action Level Reduced to 2.7 to Prevent Lung Cancer "All homes should be tested for radon regardless of the geographic location or type of construction. Since radon gas cannot be detected by human senses, the only way to know if a home has a radon problem is to conduct the test," according to Jamey Gelina, President of Air Quality Control; one of North America's leading radon mitigation companies. His Agency has fixed radon problems in over 20,000 buildings and houses. "We have worked with countless families who have been victims of radon-induced lung cancer which could have been prevented if they had been advised to test for radon when purchasing the homes," Mr. Gelina added. http://www.mitigationsystem.com

POPS Is Britain's Health-Care System Really That Bad? How does NHS health care compare with U.S. health care? Like most developed countries, Britain ranks above the U.S. in most health measurements. Its citizens have a longer life expectancy and lower infant mortality, and the country has more acute-care hospital beds per capita and fewer deaths related to surgical or medical mishaps. Britain achieves these results while spending proportionally less on health care than the U.S. — about $2,500 per person in Britain, compared with $6,000 in the U.S. For these reasons, the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked Britain 18th in a global league table of health-care systems (the U.S. was ranked 37th). However, there are measures by which the U.S. outperforms Britain: for instance, the U.S. has lower cancer mortality rates.

POPSMutating vaccine causes polio outbreak in Nigeria The agency discussed the first 16 cases it knew of at meetings early this year and posted information on its Web site in April, "but only in places where lab people would look," he said. Outbreaks of vaccine-derived polio are unusual but not unheard of. Individual cases have been known for years. For example, a former lieutenant governor of Virginia was partly paralyzed in 1973, apparently after changing the diapers of his son, who had received an oral vaccine. The first spreading outbreak of a vaccine-derived strain, in which 22 children were paralyzed, was detected in 2001 in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Experts now believe that another took place in Egypt in the late 1980s but went unnoticed amid the much larger numbers of wild-type infections. There have been others in the Philippines, Madagascar, China and Indonesia.

POPSRespondents question H1N1 vaccine: apathy, fear or common sense?
In the case of the H1N1 vaccine, the adjuvants used are AS03 & MF59, both containing squalene. Squalene is a naturally occurring substance present in human and animal brain tissue. By it’s self, squalene is a “safe” substance, but in it’s role as an adjuvant it can trigger an autoimmune response, where by the body actually attacks itself. In individuals with weakened immune systems this can have devastating consequences. The use of squalene in an adjuvant vaccine in the 1990’s has been linked to Gulf War syndrome and other diseases. Further, concerns are raised by the presence of Thiomersal, a preservative used in the vaccine to prolong shelf life. Thiomersal contains 47-58% mercury which many believe maybe linked to autism and a host of other neurological disorders. Although it has been suggested that there is no definitive scientific link to the onset of autism it has become a very controversial issue and has raised significant concern.

POPSG-20 Summit Begins The speakers at the rally were diverse internationally, if not philosophically. They included Walden Bello, an antiglobalist professor at the University of the Philippines and representative in that country's Congress; James Quilligan, economic adviser to former President Jimmy Carter, former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and former French President Francois Mitterand; and Anna Pinto, program director of the Center for Organization, Research and Education in northeast India. Generally, the speakers believe the G-20 controls the global economy on behalf of banks and transnational corporations, at the expense of most citizens. "The G-20 as a mechanism to save globalization is doomed to fail," Bello said. Quilligan mocked security preparations, including plans for more than 3,000 police officers downtown, as the "biggest mobilization of security in Pittsburgh history since the French and Indian War."
