zalisan
by zalisan  8-2-2008
I don't work for CNN. At least not any longer. Once upon a time I did. Even had the pleasure of spying the Ted in his bathrobe as he traversed the film library in search of a cup of coffee. That was in the early '80's. Christiane Amanpour was just starting to report for CNN. And baby look at her now.

'We Are Making Fools Of Ourselves In The Eyes Of The World'
merrie
by merrie  7-25-2008    8
How much is her life worth, according to Minister Balin's budget? How does he calculate this? These are politically sensitive questions, questions that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher never asked when it came to the life of Salman Rushdie, wherever he happened to be. Dutch society has no choice in this case. Canceling Ayaan's protection would be the equivalent of a death sentence. She can lead a relatively quiet life in the United States, but not in the Netherlands. And because she is so well known in the Netherlands and practically lives the life of a prisoner, not even able to go out on the street, the most humane solution is to continue to provide her with protection in America. Both Hirsi Ali and Hirsch Balin can only lose. The winners are the extremists who laugh about our inability to offer this courageous woman quiet and safety. You see, it's too expensive. In fact, though, it makes you want to weep.

Even the defiled NY Times publishes the fact that the surge decision was correct and, against all odds, produced victory. No other man could have had the courage and foresight to stay the course and pick the right military leaders to defeat the enemy and bring safety and prosperity to a suffering people. God bless George W. Bush.

Virtual Unreality (Part 2)
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  6-22-2008    7
Looking from the perspective of a futuristic, perfect virtual reality, we are forced to question the very essence of our existence. What is the point of living if a utopia is provided for us? Once the superficial shell of reality is peeled from us, what is left of the human soul? What are the common denominators of our existence? The virtual world paradigm opens up our eyes to the limitations of reality, and shows us the true essence of what it means to be human.

The Enemy Within

and the developing world’s discovery of corn-fattened beef. Greenies – Oil The greenies supported by the Democrats have blocked all efforts to increase the domestic supply of oil and gas and the Democrats and their greenies have blocked all efforts to build atomic plants for decades. We can’t expect relief from such high prices as Democrats are holding our oil reserves hostage to some delusional belief it is saving our planet. Anti-Capitalist Socialist Democrats Not all Democrats are both anti-capitalist or socialists but enough of them were to nominate Obama, a card-carrying community activist whose political proposals on his website are pure Marxian – taking from the rich and redistributing to the poor. It seems clear that our enemy is right here in America – The far left of the Democrat Party, They bribe the poor, indoctrinate our youth into socialism and traitorously work to undermine our military at every college and every recruiting station in the nation.

Volcano Releases One Trillion Cow Farts Into Atmosphere
merrie
by merrie  6-3-2008    10
"It takes more than a volcano to stop our opposition to the threat presented by industrial production and free markets to the ideas of global government and central planning," said Mr. Pachauri. "If we don't act soon, my children may never be able to chair an intergovernmental panel, control the economy, and distribute production quotas. The hardest hit will be Third-World dictatorships that are contributing disproportionately more money to our members and their families. The stand against economic development and free enterprise has become an urgent global issue - a moral issue if you will - that affects the survival of all endangered intergovernmental agencies." A separate chapter calls for a volcano tax on the worst offenders starting with Chile - with a footnote explaining that if the Chileans hadn't disposed of the Marxist regime of Salvatore Allende in 1971, the whole issue could've been avoided because they wouldn't be anywhere near the list of developed nations today.

The Wolf is Back; Neocons Control "Security" Policy
blueridge
by blueridge  6-1-2008
The return of Wolfowitz to Bush government was missed by many. Dated December article, but very important. When you see "Security" think "war planning" instead. The pairing of he and James Woolsey (both of the infamous Project for a New American Century) in the same panel is an indication of "fixing the intelligence around the policy" to go to war again.

Weather Or Not, We're Still Doomed.....Whatever
merrie
by merrie  5-6-2008    1
James Overland of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration claims that an ozone hole over the Antarctic is masking conditions there, keeping temperatures low. Later the ozone hole will close up, so we're still doomed. Gareth Marshall of the British Antarctic Survey floats this one: climate change causes Antarctic winds to blow harder, trapping colder air. But this will decrease at an undisclosed future date, so we're still doomed. Gabbles Marshall: The tea leaves point to a minimal amount of sea ice next September, that would be the same as we had last summer, 40 percent loss compared to 20 years ago. At least tea leaves are an improvement over the phony computer models they've been using to find their predetermined results. On a tip from hiram13pm. Posted by Van Helsing

Tree Nation To Plant 8 million Trees in Niger: You Can Adopt One!
urbanlife
by urbanlife  4-2-2008
“A people without children would face a hopeless future; a country without trees is almost as helpless.” - Theodore Roosevelt More than 90% of Niger is in a deserted zone and is the poorest country in the world: To not plant in a deserted area in Niger would be to abandon the best hope of development for the country. Tree-Nation: an online community, where members can buy their own tree and become the guardian of a tree that Tree-Nation will plant in its park in Niger. Members can play an active role in the development of the project online: contributing suggestions, sharing photos and gathering ideas in the Tree-Blog or creating their own projects. Prices range from USD 10 for an acacia to USD 75 for a baobab tree. So far, over 26,000 members have raised money to plant over 19,000 trees...with the goal of a park of 8 million trees in the shape of a giant heart, visible from space.

The legacy of Rousseau and the French Revolution
willhelm
by willhelm  3-20-2008
"No more thorough explication of the liberal fascist agenda can be found than in Hillary Clinton's best-selling book, 'It Takes a Village'," Mr. Goldberg writes. "All the hallmarks of the fascist enterprise reside within in pages." These include the superiority of the state-directed life over individual responsibility, even to the extent of the state having more say than parents in the raising of children. Mr. Goldberg is not making the point that American liberals are crypto-Nazis. They aren't. The kind of feminine fascist government America would likely see probably wouldn't have concentration camps but would have a Secretary of Hugs. More "Brave New World" than "1984."

Bolton: Boisterous Bully Of Bloviation
righthand
by righthand  2-27-2008
"There is an excellent review of John Bolton's new book, "Surrender is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad" by Brian Urquhart (a former UN under-secretary general) in the March 6, 2008 issue of The New York Review of Books ("One Angry Man"). "Urquhart reminds us that as an undersecretary of state, before his stint at the UN, "he did much to undermine America's leadership and position in the world." Actually, not a bad thing as undermining and weakening the power of the number one imperialist power strengthens the world progressive movement. Perhaps Bolton is a secret anti-imperialist? What Urquhart has reference to, however, is Bolton's role in undermining the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, and the International Criminal Court. Of course he could have only done this with the consent of his masters Bush, Cheney and the ineffective Colin Powell." ...Countercurrents

Where Hunger Will Hit in 2030

I know that if the drought keeps up, Australia will have trouble producing enough food, let alone food for export. "Mad Max" may prove more accurate than Orwell. These starving people will not stay at home and die, they will search for somewhere they can grow food. Australia will become more crowded and there will be a lot of market gardens.
