POPSProudly Saying NO No, I do not want us to curb our natural resource exploration for the sake of the environmentalist lobbies. We need to find and utilize more reserves of oil, coal, and natural gas. No, I do not want the government telling me how or where to educate my child. No, I do not want the government involved in my personal health care. I can take care of myself. And I will take care of family and friends who need health assistance. No, I do not support killing fetuses, regardless of their stage of development. If we are not allowed life, then liberty and the pursuit of happiness are meaningless. No, I do not support the destruction of fetuses for scientific research, no matter how important a potential discovery may be. No, I do not want illegal aliens absorbing resources and influencing legislation designed for American citizens. Everyone is welcome in our home; just come in the front door. No, I do not want dictatorships to possess nuclear weapons. No, I do not want terro

POPSLose Weight Fast With A Fat-Burning Diet That Works If people in general took the time to do a little research about our daily foods, they would soon learn that a good fat burning system, along with eating the right fat burning foods is the best plan to follow to lose weight. You would also learn that pre-packed diet foods not only do not work but run quite expensive too.

POPSI wish I'd have said this #1 There are times to rebel. There are times to obey. But the point made in this thought-provoking essay is important: in both cases, you (or I) am letting outside forces determine the parameters. That's too constricting, and makes a person reactive rather than proactive. And yep, I'm using this in my class. This week, I think.

POPS“A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter“ Writer Andrew Sargus Klein offers some additional context for the sculpture in this excellent post at SpliceToday, in which he references both Baudrillard and Hirst, and explores contemporary concepts of ownership and worth: “A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter” is tangibly linked, via Ethernet, to the intangible world of taste, aesthetics and worth. It doesn’t matter if the work becomes astronomically valuable—you’re legally required to keep putting it up on eBay once a week until someone else buys it. The argument is you can’t own anything conceptual, neither in copyright or theoretical terms, and the artwork’s logistics ensure that no third party—the highly ridiculous art market—can change that.

POPSJohn Travolta: Scientology 'to stay' in Haiti The first group of Scientologists arrived in Haiti two weeks ago, and were boosted last week by the arrival of actor John Travolta in his Boeing 707 with food, medical equipment, baby food and nappies, doctors and volunteer ministers. As well as providing medical assistance the volunteers – wearing yellow T-shirts that read: "Something CAN be done about it" – have also helped distribute food and water and remove medical supplies from damaged buildings. Some medical workers have praised the Scientologists for their efforts, but they are understood to have been less well received by certain other organisations. An Oxfam spokeswoman was quoted as saying: "I didn't know touching could cure gangrene", while other people questioned how Travolta was able to gain landing permission while many other aid flights were turned away from the airport.

POPSUK, Russia, like Iran's Nuclear Deal
You would think...I mean, I would think that if you've misled nations into going to war, killing hundreds of thousands, and never found any weapons of mass destruction (in fact, these were deliberate lies) -- that the propaganda to going to war with Iran because We Claim they want nuke weapons someday in the future -- you would think that spin deserves a second thought. But, apparently not much. Israel threatens war with Iran every week and the USA buys into this scam -- we are the biggest weapons dealers in the world, we got to sell them to somebody, war is good for business. But is seems these sneaky, evil, WMD-intentioned Iranians have foiled the warmongers Master Plans, again -- by cooperating -- again, on negotiated terms that have taken some time to work out -- again. Yup. Pretty soon they will be able to get that nuclear facility the USA sold them -- back when we were supporting the dictator Shah -- get that back up and running. Russian & China ain't gonna play along

POPSOnce again, let's give a big ol' "thank you" to George Bush for all he's done, all his "hard work"...
Yesterday the airwaves were abuzz re: the CEO of Goldman Sachs taking $100 million in bonuses and thumbing his nose at Obama in doing so. Other reports this week are confirming the sleight-of-hand and shadiness surrounding the TARP bailout of the banks: Specifically, that TARP money handed out by Paulson was not recorded, let alone accounted for or monitored; and therefore it cannot be traced or even determined whether it went to benefit American corporations, let alone Americans, and not foreign corporations or even private interests or parties. With these recent developments coming to light, along with the tea-baggers and Republicans continued blaming of Obama for everything from being born, daring to take the oath of office with unpresidential skin pigmentation, to daring to reverse the direction of the country from the cliff that Bush had so clearly left us heading for, it seems it's time to revisit those days of yore, those nostalgic last glimmerings of a time when we had a gover

POPSA Radical Treasure Think about how many times you've read disparaging comments here on CM alone about liberals, feminists, those who want to share the wealth with labor that help make profits, and civil rights for gays or lesbians. It's because people like that think they profit from the system we live under and they don't want to see it changed for the betterment of society. So the nitwits spout their rhetoric because it is the only way they have to validate their identity in this world, and more importantly because their survival depends upon it. And because they think they feel powerful by trying to control, condemn and stereotype. Howard Zinn? "That he was considered radical says way more about this society than it does about him."

Previously, Cox was a corporate associate at the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP in their New York office where he worked in the Private Equity Group. During his tenure, he advised major private equity fund clients on acquisitions. Cox also fought for the rights of New York State small business owners in Albany on a pro-bono basis. POPSCongressman Bob Latta on President Obama's State Of The Union Address
Any "jobs" bills that are brought before Congress should focus on tax cuts and incentives for businesses who hire new employees instead of another "stimulus" package that we now know to be nothing more than a bloated government spending program that has failed miserably, leaving taxpayers with the $862 billion dollar cost. House Republicans continue to offer cost-free legislation that will create jobs and invigorate our economy, as opposed to the Administration’s position of trying to spend our way out of our predicament. As the President laid out his preliminary spending proposals for the next fiscal year, specifically his proposed spending "freeze", it comes as no surprise that his plan does not go nearly far enough to address the serious spending problem we face as a nation. The spending freeze outlined this evening hits only the tip of the iceberg, as it applies to only a small percentage of discretionary spending.

POPSBritish newspapers make things up More: I hope American and British readers (and readers throughout the world) will finally wake up to the reality of British journalism: You just cannot believe what you read in British newspapers. I’d further call on my academic colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic never to speak to British reporters. You have absolutely no control over what they say about you and your scientific research. Unfortunately, however, this does not always work. A reporter from the Sunday Times has recently requested an interview with me about one of my papers. Having already learned my lesson in 2006, I completely ignored his email and telephone messages. As a result, no interview took place. But that did not stop him at all. He went ahead and wrote his article, pretending that he had interviewed me and quoting me at length.

POPSArf, Arf! Barry and Bo Work on The State of the Union While Axelrod Fiddles and Rahm Burns
“Look where triangulation got him,” said Barry. “A library the Saudis paid for, and an office in Harlem. No, thanks.” He pounded the desk. “Bill Clinton is not a world historical figure. I am.” “Mr. President,” Axelrod said gently. “Your whole agenda is collapsing. Senators are panicking. Ben Nelson is afraid to go out to a restaurant for dinner "” “We don’t need Ben Nelson anymore,” said Rahm. “Send him a gift card from Dominos and he can order in for the next year. It’s time to play hardball, Slim. No retreat, no surrender, you’re on the bus or under the bus.” “Sir, with all due respect, this is exactly the wrong approach,” said Axelrod. Barry glared at him. “It’s decided. Tell the speechwriters that I want the word `fight’ used in every paragraph of the State of the Union Address.” He smacked his fist into the palm of his hand, winced. “I’m a fighter, fighting the good fight for you.” I bared my teeth in approval.

POPSThe "Mad As Hell" Party Some more from the article: With the mid-term elections months away, both Republicans and Democrats are scrambling to embrace the Mad-As-Hell Party as their own. Republicans are hoping the mad-as-hellers forget the gushing corporate welfare of the Bush administration and the last Republican congress. And Democrats have become born-again economic populists, blaming the nation's problems on the same "fat cat" bankers and corporate lobbyists they've been cozying up to for years. If the Mad-as-hell Party helps get money out of politics it will do a world of good. I might even join up. But if it just fulminates against the establishment, forget it. Wrecking balls are easy to wield. Rescuing our democracy is hard work."
