POPSConventional wisdom treats knowledge as if it were a kind of substance: frm training 2 learning in a wired world
While re-reading the article--and especially the part highlighted below--From Training to Learning in the New Economy, I was reminded of the White Paper I had read yesterday by David Snowden. The Paper is called: Complex Acts of Knowing: Paradox and Descriptive Self Awareness. What triggered the association was the phrase, "Conventional wisdom treats knowledge as if it were a kind of substance". In the white paper, Dave Snowden explains how knowledge is both a "thing" and a "flow". And it is our tendency to perceive knowledge as something static, "capturable", measurable and quantifiable that leads to teaching being seen as the transfer of these knowledge packets from one brain to another... If we understood the complexities of "knowledge", the social and the cultural contexts, the symbols, the evolution, the constant shifts, we would be less inclined to fall prey to the notions of knowledge transfer or knowledge management. This then begs some the following questions: What

POPSA Graceful And Gallant Man—Mr. President, I Salute You
Ronald Reagan helped America " and so America could help the world - because he rejected that approach. He believed, and he never stopped proclaiming, that the talents of a nation, not the wisdom of bureaucracy, forge a country’s greatness. Let our children grow tall " he urged - then they can reach out to raise others higher too. For our opponents, there are always a hundred reasons why the government must intervene to plan its children’s lives. For us, there’s one overwhelming reason why it shouldn’t " because men and women are born to be free. The world isn’t much used to hearing that kind of message now. We live in an era of sound bites and spin doctors, of false sentiment and real cynicism. That’s why just reading " or hearing as we shall - the words of Ronald Reagan is so refreshing. They remind us that men and women were born for high ideals and noble purposes. They remind us, too, that the world which so many now take for granted was won by struggle. ....

POPSWelcome to Hell: Sand Demons of Dante’s Inferno [49 Pics] Dante stands at the edge of the world of damned souls and reads: "Through me is the way into the woeful city; through me is the way into eternal woe; through me is the way among the lost people. Justice moved my lofty maker: the divine Power, the supreme Wisdom and the primal Love made me. Before me were no things created, unless eternal, and I eternal last. Leave every hope, ye who enter!" The result was Hell, represented as scenes, mythological figures, and as some of the most famous characters from Dante’s Inferno.

POPSThe Deficit of Trust " Let’s invest in our people without leaving them a mountain of debt. Let’s meet our responsibility to the citizens who sent us here. Let’s try common sense. To do that, we have to recognize that we face more than a deficit of dollars right now. We face a deficit of trust " deep and corrosive doubts about how Washington works that have been growing for years. To close that credibility gap we must take action on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to end the outsized influence of lobbyists; to do our work openly; and to give our people the government they deserve. " Wouldn’t it be great to have a President who talked about trusting the ability of free people to make wise decisions? Instead, the current occupant frets about the “deficit of trust,” even as the federal budget deficit soars past a trillion dollars, and his third request to raise the ceiling of the national debt " after only a single year in office " has brought it past $14.3 trillion dollars.

POPSPQ | Gary Levox
Born and raised in Columbus, OH, Gary LeVox (b. July 10, 1970) made a name for himself as the lead singer in the multi-platinum-selling country-pop group Rascal Flatts. He loved music from an early age and frequently participated in family jam sessions alongside his second cousin Jay DeMarcus. After graduating from Ohio State University, LeVox took a job working at the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation. However, he was eventually convinced by DeMarcus to pack it up and join him down in Nashville to pursue his musical dreams. They began gigging together at a club in town, while DeMarcus also played in country star Chely Wright's backing band. One night, the two cousins needed a guitarist to sit in on a show, so DeMarcus asked Joe Don Rooney, who was playing with him in Wright's band. The three had an immediate musical connection, and Rascal Flatts were born. LeVox married in 1999, the year before the group's debut self-titled album appeared via Lyric Street Records, a label owned b

POPSThis Presupposition of Passivity Perhaps, people should take responsibility for the consequences of their have-your-cake-and-eat-it attitude, but he whole force of the commercial propaganda media is deployed against them thinking for themselves. Social media could, in this sense, be a potent weapon against the hypocrisy of conventional wisdom.

POPSPlato was right I'm not saying that was a bad thing, but his prediction was borne out. Marshal McLuhan's observation that the medium is the message intersects with this. Thoreau's observations that we do not ride the railroad, it rides us, is another take on the same issue. So the question isn't "is media good or bad," or "how can we use media," but rather something pondering how our society will communicate and view/use information in several generations.

POPSWhy Are the Back Teeth Called "Wisdom Teeth"? There are two main theories as to why wisdom teeth exist at all, since in most cases in the modern world they cause problems and have to be removed or else mess up the jaw line. One theory of evolution and wisdom teeth is that in ancient times tooth loss was much more common, because of rot or trauma, and so most people by the time they were in their early twenties had already lost a tooth or two. The wisdom teeth, then, would help fill the empty space that the lost tooth left, making for a more complete bite. Another theory holds that in the past the human jaw was significantly larger, so that there was room for the wisdom teeth to grow in. As our diet shifted, our jaws shrank, but wisdom teeth continued to form.

POPSThe PEOPLE are just beginning to speak Fortunately, Scott Brown was perceptive enough to understand the anger and frustration on the part the American people… even those in the liberal enclave of Massachusetts. Unlike even some of his party leaders, he understood that the people had legitimate concerns and had the wisdom and humility to listen and care about the people’s concerns. more at source

POPSThe Timeless Wisdom of E.J. Dionne: Screw The Will Of The People
-- Ram Obamacare Down Citizens' Throats! Dionne could be this era's Montesquieu. Apart from the fact he doesn't believe in representative government. Nor Democracy. Nor the Constitution. They -- according to the WaPo's version of John Locke -- are anachronisms. 'Ram the bill through' at all costs! Full speed ahead -- no matter the rules of the Senate, It. Must. Pass. So here’s an idea, I have been told reliably, that leaders of both Houses are considering: The House would pass a version of the reconciliation bill containing the various amendments and send it to the Senate. The Senate would change it slightly (in ways that the House agreed to), which would require the House to vote on it again. Only after it got the revised reconciliation bill would the House take up the Senate bill. The House could then pass both bills and send both to the president. Problem solved, health-care passes, and we move on. Sounds simple! Errr... what was that again?
