POPSNeocon Judge's History of Cover-ups In the 1980s, Silberman played behind-the-scenes roles in helping Ronald Reagan gain the White House; he helped formulate hard-line intelligence policies; he encouraged right-wing media attacks on liberals; and he protected the flanks of Reagan’s operatives who were caught breaking the law.

POPSIraqi shoe thrower to be released early Thousands demonstrated for al-Zeidi's release and hailed his gesture, which came in the waning days of the Bush administration. The incident also embarrassed al-Maliki, who was standing next to Bush at the time. Neither leader was injured, but Bush was forced to duck for cover as the journalist shouted in Arabic: "This is your farewell kiss, you dog! This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

POPSLeftists invoke "What Would Jesus Do?" To Support ObamaCare Now for those who want to equate this outpouring of sharing with the idea of modern day socialism, I would suggest a short course in Biblical Theology. Christianity teaches that it is up to the individual to care for others, whereas, Socialism demands forced equality enacted by the government. Also, while it is the Christian's obligation to look after the widows and the poor, Paul specifically told the Thessalonians in his 2nd letter to them, that if a healthy able bodied brother will not work he will not eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10) Socialism on the other hand, not only promotes but demands that those who work will feed those who are lazy and will not work. This is not what Christ taught. Jesus did not have the Good Samaritan in Luke's Gospel tell the injured man in the road to seek a government social worker. The Good Samaritan gave of what was his own willingly, not under the duress of the state. (Luke 10:25-37)

POPSHundreds of Irish Catholic priests 'to be implicated in child abuse report' Rome should have paid attention to Paul: 1 Corinthians 7:7 For I wish that all men were even as myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. 8 But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; 9 but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be on fire.

POPSWomen of Strength Here I am on the right, with Abby Carter, esteemed author of Alchemy of Loss, a brilliant book depicting Abby's loss of her husband Aaron Dack in the World Trade Center tradegy on September 11th, 2001 and her many victories in living through her pain, and that of her children. Somehow Abby adeptly weaves humor into the book such that it is not only readable, everyone I've given a copy to describes it as an absolute page turner, often reading it in one sitting, because of it's power and passion.

POPSDoes talking peace End War? Dissident CDNP leader Bosco Ntaganda, wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, is pursuing separate peace negotiations as talks about the eastern DR Congo crisis resume. More than 3,000 extra UN peacekeepers are needed in the eastern DR Congo to protect civilians there. Will this help the crisis? What can be done to stabilise eastern DR Congo? Are you satisfied with the performance of the UN peacekeepers? Are you in DR Congo or Rwanda?

POPSAnti-War Protests In Israel No organisation called for the demonstration – but more than a thousand men and women gathered spontaneously in order to protest in front of the Ministry of Defense in Tel-Aviv, only a few hours after the murderous Air Force attack on the Gaza strip started. "I know there has been a lot of generalizations and criticizing of the Israeli people during these wars, so I figured I'd share with you another side of the story you wouldn't see on TV." (sean57, DP~Thanks)

POPSGM Is A "Vast Retirement Home With A Small Money-Losing Subsidiary" An unnerving image - the day our bridge was destroyed (Sydney Morning Herald): "In The Day The Earth Stood Still... alien invaders arrive on Earth to purge the planet of the one thing that is killing all life - mankind. is a retelling of a 1951 science-fiction film which originally had Klaatu arriving to warn the people of Earth of the dangers of the escalating nuclear arms race. This time around, the story has been tweaked to reflect current global ecological and weather concerns. When he arrives, Reeves's alien warns humanity our reckless abuse of the Earth has left his watching species with no choice but to intervene before we destroy the planet and its rare ability to sustain life."

POPSThere Is A Lot Of Anger "There's a lot of anger out there. Some is directed at Bush, some at the United States, and some is more free-floating, directed at all those who are imagined to have power or to be allied with or important to those with power. This is not a new story. In today's world, anger and powerlessness are expressed, more and more, through the medium of the hidden bomb and the hurled object: the Molotov cocktail, the stones flung by Palestinian boys at Israeli tanks, the grenades of Mumbai's terrorists, suicide bombers throwing their ownexplosives-laden bodies into spaces packed tight with human beings. By willingly risking prison and death just to throw those shoes, he reminded the powerful and powerless alike that a single symbolic gesture can be more effective than a thousand grenades."
