POPSAmazing Black and White Cities Photography by Josef Hoflehner Josef Hoflehner was born in 1955 in Wels, Austria, when the country was still under allied occupation. He grew up in a family where the camera was used so rarely that as many as three Christmas holidays would be captured on one roll of film. Although Austria could boast awesome mountains and a great natural landscape, it had no coastlines, deserts or empty spaces where one could see the horizon unimpaired. At the age of 20, Hoflehner purchased a camera and began to travel. An early award for photography began to open doors professionally and his career has continued to develop with amazing success.

POPSWhat U Think: Swine Flu (Biden Rebuked)
Joe Biden has a habit of telling folks exactly what he thinks, often from a 'regular person,"perspective. The fact is, I think, governments 1. Don't want to create panic. They will always tell folks to stay calm 2. Don't want to disrupt business. So we should keep eating pork and keep the border open. And everybody should keep going to work. But there are obvious disparities. When they're was the Bird Flue scare hundreds of thousands of birds killed in Thailand. Why was it a good idea to kill hundreds of thousands of birds but not kill pigs? (or close down that pig factory suspected as the source, even?). Panic, indeed, does-not-help and good doctors and government leaders ARE at work (we're lucky) but what Biden said is true too. We now have National Guard flue guarding vaccines supplies! Promises of giving vaccines to poor countries (ha!). Unfortunately a real monster virus could evolve...it happens regularily. Don't think it's nothing. Wash & Keep hand out

POPSBlazing speed of Internet It can be gigabytes per second, downloading and uploading. All we going to get are good antenna and old-fashioned radio receiver for short wave signal. It means the end for cable and phone providers, information in digital form is free from noises, usual for analog broadcasting. Soon we are going to pay only for devices, which connect us to the Internet, hanging everywhere in the air. Like love in spring.;)

POPSgreen black white No matter how bold you go with color in your spaces, remember to use the basics to tie it all together. This guest bedroom suite, found in HGTV's Dream Home 2008, makes a strong color statement. But it's the white and black that makes it livable. Interior designer Linda Woodrum says "the color is my favorite part of the room. It's strong but appealing, and it's balanced by the blacks and whites." Our picks for easy black and white accents include zebra-striped rugs, black frames and sheer white curtains.

POPSStudy Outlines The Added 'Emotional Labor' Of Black Professional Women Durr and Wingfield illustrate emotional labor as performance with a quote from an African American woman who says of her workplace peers, "They…are careful to remember…'that's not professional. Remember they got the s that'll get you bit! Keep your Negro in check! Don't let it jump up and show anger, disapproval, or difference of opinion. They have to like you and think that you are as close to them as possible in thought, ideas, dress and behavior.'" Yes, that is apparently a science data point. The paper, "Keep Your 'N' In Check: African American Women and the Interactive Effects of Etiquette and Emotional Labor," was presented on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Boston at the American Sociological Association's 103rd annual meeting.

POPSHigh-Stakes Race to Unlock a Wider Web White spaces are unused airwaves surrounding the frequencies used by TV broadcasters. "Google, Microsoft and other technology firms want to use these airwaves to offer mobile Internet service, hoping it will spark new products and services. But broadcasters and microphone makers say the technology could disrupt their signals."
