Several have been outspoken in the view that a district that is 60 percent black should not be represented by a white man; Mr. Cohen, who is Jewish, was the object of boos and jeers at a meeting of the Memphis Baptist Ministerial Association last summer. Anti-Semitic fliers — “Why do Steve Cohen and the Jews Hate Jesus?” one asked — written by an African-American minister from outside the district have also been circulating in Memphis.

Otherwise how will our taxpayer-funded hate police manage to keep their cozy sinecure? Happily, beginning on July 1, under Ontario's "human rights" reforms, Commissar Hall will have far greater powers to initiate prosecutions. Under the new proposals, " 'hate incident' means any act or omission, whether criminal or not, that expresses bias, prejudice, bigotry or contempt toward a vulnerable or disadvantaged community or its members." "Act or omission"? Of course. The act of not acting in an insufficiently non-hateful way can itself be hateful. Whether or not the incident is a non-incident is incidental. I quote from "Concepts Of Race And Racism And Implications For OHRC Policy" as published on the OHRC website: "The denial of racism used by so many whites in positions of authority ranging from the supervisor in a work place to the chief of Police and ministers of government must be understood for what it is: an example of White hegemonic power over those considered 'other.' "

POPSGut Check Time for White Americans The Wright affair has such resonance in this campaign because Wright has shown himself to be the kind of black person that white people don't like. He brings out our prejudices. Yes, I said "our" prejudices. Part of it is Wright's ignorance and part of it is his arrogance and part of it is that he talks louder than white people would prefer and part of it is that he uses the sing-song cadence they associate with other black ministers they have grown to hate over the years such as Jesse Jackson. Obama is none of those things (OK, maybe a little arrogant at times), so Wright has been brought to the forefront as a substitute punching bag.

POPSBirmingham Builds Bridge to 12th Century In keeping with the image of the regressive South the Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama decided that the best way to fight a rising crime rate was to don biblical costumes and ask his invisible friend for help. Is it any wonder the rest of the nation views the South with scorn and ridicule? I live in the South and I hold that sad view too. But I do like the climate!

Jeremiah Wright, are held with deep suspicion, even contempt. McCain is free to hug and praise the Rev. Hagees of the world, but Obama is required to prove over and over and over and over that he does not share the more extreme views of black Ministers."

If Michael Savage is upset with the Catholic church, he ought to be downright livid if the United Nations adopts a resolution calling for the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality. And when he finds out the resolution was offered by a black gay Frenchman? Well he'll probably call for the bombing of the U.N. and for the U.S. to finally invade and occupy France. What will be interesting to see is where the Bush administration stands. After all, they flip-flopped on allowing gay human rights activists to have U.N. access. Post-election, where will the Bush administration come down on this? Where would their base want them to come down? Three guesses, and the first two don't count.

Fueling the debate in recent days was the release of a classified intelligence report that concluded that the Iraq war has helped fuel a new generation of extremists and increased the overall terrorist threat.
