POPSIWE | My@ltaCITIES Blog Directory My avocation with blogging has taken a nostalgic turn with the migration of my creations to iWeb where I employ the graphic genius of my iMac and MacBook, although the desktop computer is the primary tool. While I still have a learning curve to close, the iMac software for bloggers is a step up from the PC and the Google Blogger domain that served well before. Actually, the former blogs remain for purposes of providing RSS feeds for archiving the former and current content. Browse a few of the blogs by visiting this directory site. ___ http://me.twi.bz/S ___ http://altacities.com

POPSIWE | Welcome the "one billionth" iPhone app Mike Schramm (RSS feed) on Dec 30th 2009 | " ... it seems like they're working as hard as they can just to keep up with what's going on over there. And that seems to be the case with their updated iPhone app as well, just released on the App Store . There's a lot of new features, but as TechCrunch's MG Sielger points out, they're very similar to what's already in the great Facebook app: a revamped UI, the ability to comment on status updates, share pictures, and so on."

POPSHappy (belated) 95th birthday to Jack LaLanne! More: The seeming futility of shaping up the world does not daunt him. "I never think about that," LaLanne says. "I think about things that I can improve." One thing he can always improve is himself. LaLanne works out two hours a day, mostly swimming and lifting weights… "I work at living," he says, leaning close and squeezing an arm. "Most people work at dying. Dying's easy." One of LaLanne's most effective sales devices has been his amazing feats of strength. When Arnold Schwarzenegger came to America in 1968 and became an instant sensation on the Southern California muscle scene, LaLanne challenged the kid to a duel at Muscle Beach. The Austrian Oak was 21; the Oakland Oak was 54. "I beat him in chin-ups and push-ups," LaLanne says. "He said, 'That Jack LaLanne's an animal! I was sore for four days. I couldn't lift my arms!' " At age 70, handcuffed, LaLanne towed 70 loaded boats 1.5 miles in Long Beach Harbor.

POPSRobot 808B1 Inspired by comic books, sci-fi movies, and the burgeoning "art toy" movement, this little guy is a fusion of traditional metal-smithing techniques and modern obsessions. Though made primarily out of brass, this machine is injected with a dose of human warmth and whimsy.

POPSHow Many Troops Can We Support In Afghanistan? This is one of those deals where 'surging' troops isn't the problem: keeping them supplied *is*. In Iraq we had shipping via Kuwait, KSA and some through Turkey, so we had at least four total ports, counting Iraq, to go through and multiple supply points. Are there any other ways to keep our troops supplied in Afghanistan? Lets start to the west and look at the countries: -Iran? Heh. No. -Pakistan... these are the folks that we are maximizing our shipments through. -India? No road there, really, except stuff that makes Kotai look like a superhighway. No. -China? Same problem as India plus likely to be problematical and shut things down on whimsy. No. -Tajikistan? Landlocked, so you would be looking at Khazakhstan and then Russia. Probably not, plus you would be shipping via some part of the trans-siberian railroad. -Uzbekistan? Same problem as Tajikistan.

POPSElephants Can Paint - Watch Video Please leave a comment. I'm interested in your opinions about Elephants that can paint. I would send you a thank you message, but Clipmarks doesn't have a messaging system. I would reply to your comment, but you have no way of being notified of my reply to your comment. WOW! Clipmarks still have a lot of room for improvement. Please send a suggestion to Clipmarks to Feedback@Clipmarks.com and let them know what we want to see as far as new features on Clipmarks. The more people that write in, the more driven they will become to appease the members. Thank you Stephen

POPSLiteral Answers to Rhetorical Questions
>>People commonly ask empty rhetorical questions that rarely receive any sort of sensible answer. When you have had your surfeit of poetical whimsy and are ready for some good, hard facts, come here to be set straight. The world would be much improved if those engaging in windy musings were more often brought up short by a nice, sharp definition or a pointed rebuke. Even the fantastical William Shakespeare, asking himself "Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?" goes on (admittedly at excessive length) to list a number of reasons for answering in the negative.Of course, some questions are so ill-framed as to admit of no sensible answer. Example: Where have you been all my life? It so happens that this question has never been addressed to me; but if it were I should be at a loss to detail the many addresses at which I have resided and worked during the span of existence of some other person, even if I knew that person's precise date of birth. Such idle musings are best ignored.<<
