POPS New Orleans Orders Mandatory Evacuation
As part of the evacuation plan New Orleans developed after Katrina, residents who had no other way to get out of the city waited on a line that snaked for more than a mile through the parking lot of the city's main transit terminal. From there, they were boarding motor coaches bound for shelters in north Louisiana. The city expects to move out about 30,000 such residents by Sunday. Unlike Katrina, when thousands took refuge inside the Superdome, there will be no "last resort" shelter. "You will be on your own," Nagin said. About 1,500 National Guard troops were in the region, and soldiers were expected to help augment about 1,400 New Orleans police officers in helping patrol and secure the city. Standing outside his restaurant in the city's Faubourg Marigny district, Dale DeBruyne prepared for Gustav the way he did for Katrina - stubbornly. "I'm not leaving," he said. DeBruyne, 52, said his house was stocked with storm supplies, including generators.

POPSNBC Olympics Web Site Awards West Bank to “Palestine”
Today's Reuters story about Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's peace offer to the Palestinians gets wrong the basic history of Palestine. Under the proposal, Israel would return to the Palestinians some 92.7 percent of the occupied West Bank, plus all of the Gaza Strip In fact, it is impossible to "return" West Bank land to the Palestinians, as they never were the sovereigns of this territory. http://blog.camera.org/archives/2008/08/updated_reuters_rewrites_ruler.html Before 1967, when the West Bank came into Israeli hands, the territory was ruled (and annexed) by Jordan. Prior to that, it was under British rule. Before that, it was Ottoman territory. The Egyptians ruled for some time, as did the Mamluks, the Crusaders, Arab Caliphs, and a number of other ancient empires. But the Palestinians are not on this list. So while the West Bank could technically "return" to Jordanian or British sovereignty, it could not, however, return to Palestinian sovereignty.

POPSFour Points for Israel Excellent synopsis of Arab antipathy and hypocrisy, with links and references to further articles. Israel is now 60, and the arabs are still assholes.

POPSIsrael's Front-Line Thugs The security forces are, of course, by no means scared to act when it suits them. Palestinian demonstrations are routinely put down with excessive force: rocks flung by pre-teens are countered with rubber bullets, tear gas, and – often – live and indiscriminate fire. But when it comes to clamping down on violence emanating from the settler community, a different set of rules apply, and the authorities' reeking hypocrisy is exposed as endemic to the way in which they view the different strands of Israeli society. POPSPalestinians capture violence of Israeli occupation on video In case anyone thinks its just one or a few videos, there are literally hundreds which clearly and undisputably demonstrate the evils of the state of israel - a society bereft of morals. My hat off to B'Tselem (Jews with conscience) who regularly - and not without much consequence - expose the deplorable crimes of that rotten state.

POPSVideo: Israel shoots dead nine-year-old boy Again and again and again. Everyday. All day. How can these creatures stand themselves? Were they born conscienceless or did this happen in their studies of how to be a good murdering Zionist. The worst part about this is that incidents like this puts a big smile on these people's faces. If it didn't they wouldn't be doing this. The evil state of Israel IS the crime.
