Schwarzenegger's Wage Slashing Order Won't Be Obeyed
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  7-24-2008    3
I predict that the terminator will end up terminating his harebrained idea about slashing state workers pay to minimum wage level now that he has started a rebellion. It turns out that ol' Arnie was trying to engage in a political stunt since the state does have enough funds on hand to meet its obligations. As to this callous GOPer's disregard to the little guy, one state worker proposed the appropriate corrective action: "I think the governor should fund the budget with his own resources until he and the Legislature can get together," said Paul Ablon, who has been a state attorney for nearly nine years. "And maybe he'll appreciate how it is to worry about paying your expenses."

Banned(in US) WW1Socialist anti-draft pamphlet
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  7-22-2008
This is a portion of an anti-draft pamphlet that was put out by the Socail Democratic (Socialist) Party during World War 1. This led to a Supreme Court ruling (US vs Schenk) http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/schenk.html While we do not have a draft now, I find the portions clipped to be quite relevant to today.

Tape Recording Reveals Vile Rants Of British Mullah
merrie
by merrie  7-22-2008    1
Now Choudary —who once called for the Pope to be executed and described the September 11 hijackers as "magnificent martyrs" — could face arrest under anti-terror laws for his evil ranting on the tape, which was passed to the News of the World. Terrorism expert and author Neil Doyle said: "There is no doubt whatever this a rallying cry to would-be British terrorists. "And this is the evidence from his own mouth. There's no doubt that the message he's preaching will eventually convince some impressionable people they should start planning 7/7-type atrocities. "He's certainly becoming the most high-profile cheerleader for al-Qaeda in the UK." When we spoke to Choudary he refused to discuss our recording but admitted he WAS on a recruitment drive. He ranted: "I would like to recruit enough to turn the whole country into an Islamic state within a month...by tomorrow. "You can put that down. I'm trying to recruit 5,000 a week."

I've seen so many stupid animal owners, but it's never too late to get some "know-how". At this time of year, the warmth is often animals worst enemy. Take care of your dog, cat or whatever you have decided to give love and shelter. Don't be one of the bad statistic.

The Long March
willhelm
by willhelm  7-20-2008
"much of the wacky, upside-down, right-is-wrong, black-is-white stuff we see in the news these days is directly or indirectly inspired by Gramsci: the attacks on Christianity, the family, individual freedom, morality and moral judgements; multiculturalism; the cult of victimhood, "tolerance," political correctness, the replacement of the roles of family, religion, individual responsibility and choice with government rules, laws, and regs; the expansion of the State and the Welfare State and the Nanny State; anti-tradition, anti-capitalism, anti-success, anti-nationalism, anti-Americanism and anti-Westernism, etc - all the stuff that makes me echo Bob Grant with "It's sick out there, and getting sicker." I am sure Antonio never anticipated that a Green movement would emerge to become an ally of the slow, incrementalist and thus less-alarming Gramscian revolution."

Me And My Girls
debbyski
by debbyski  7-20-2008    3
"But was it really all thus? When memory is called to answer, it often answers back with deception. How is it that almost every warm bar stool contains a hero, a star of his own epic, who is the sum of his amazing stories? If I said I was a fat thug who beat up women and sold bad coke, would you like my story? What if instead I wrote that I was a recovered addict who obtained sole custody of my twin girls, got us off welfare and raised them by myself, even though I had a little touch of cancer? Now we’re talking. Both are equally true, but as a member of a self-interpreting species, one that fights to keep disharmony at a remove, I’m inclined to mention my tenderhearted attentions as a single parent before I get around to the fact that I hit their mother when we were together. We tell ourselves that we lie to protect others, but the self usually comes out looking damn good in the process. "

Obama Turns FDR Upside Down
merrie
by merrie  7-12-2008    1
assuming the same life expectancy. But the principle remains that as workers’ wages rise so do the taxes they pay, and so do the benefits they will get from the system. Although the formula connecting benefits to tax payments or “contributions” has evolved slightly over time, it still adheres to this basic message. Today, what Social Security terms a “low-wage” worker will pay (in present value terms) $77,197 over his or her lifetime and get $112,261 in benefits. A median-wage worker earning $42,000 will pay $171,550 and get back $187,085. A “high-wage” worker making $67,000 will pay $274,480 and get back $245,085. Sen. Obama would do away with this principle by requiring higher-end workers to pay taxes without getting any extra benefits linked to their higher contributions. This would be a big step toward turning Social Security from a contributory pension scheme into just another welfare program.

Obama opposed the Induced Birth Infant Liability Act while in the Illinois state legislature, to prevent abortion providers from withholding medical care and sustenance from infants born after surviving an abortion attempt. While in the Illinois state legislature, Obama voted against parental notification requirements for abortions for minors. Americans support parental notification laws by a margin of 79% to 17%.

Obama Snubs DLC
Wisco
by Wisco  6-30-2008    2
He skipped out last year, too. While the article describes the DLC as "centrist," the truth is that they're committed to dragging the party right. A former Chair of the DLC is Joe Liberman , which ought to give you a clue as to how "centrist" they are. Good on him for blowing them off. It's home to the conservative and the overly-cautious. Bill Clinton's "triangulation" is a good example of DLC philosophy -- pre-emptive capitulation. Think the current Congress blows? Thank the DLC.

Wanted: inner-city supermarkets
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  6-27-2008
Before the WalMart Supercenter era, community markets where the norm, now with sprawling shopping centers moving out into the burbs, the hometown markets where forced to close up shop. And yet despite all the 'change' things still remain the same. This story shows once again that the small business owner working in his or her own community has the most positive effect on that local economy.
