POPSPelosi rants. Announcing the Democrats' bold new "plan" on energy last week, Pelosi said breaking into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve "is one alternative." That's not an energy plan. It's using what we already have -- much like "conservation," which is also part of the Democrats' plan. Conservation, efficiency and using oil we hold in reserve for emergencies does not get us more energy. It's as if we were running out of food and the Democrats were telling us: "Just eat a little less every day." Great! We'll die a little more slowly. That's not what we call a "plan." We need more energy, not a plan for a slower death.

POPSHuman Ketchup: The World’s Largest Tomato Fight Having said this, there are still some minor injuries, the most serious of which occurred in 2002 when a woman slipped off the back of a truck and broke her leg. Apart from this, no major injuries or fatalities have occurred. If anything, the most painful part of the festival is not the speeding tomatoes, but the huge acidic stench that they create during the fight, and of course, the town’s cleaning bill.

POPSI MADE IT! OREGON AT LAST!
and on the plane down (I HATE FLYIN'--COULD THEY CRAM SOME MORE NERVOUS MONKEYS INTO SMALLER SEATS IN A TIN CAN?) ---it was uber-weird, me with my "Impeach Cheney" cap and Nixon button that Joe gave me and a whale pin....anyhow a lot of soldier/business/patriot type jazzbo's were givin' me "stinkeye" bigtime...it was freakin' creepy...Then the Stewardess gave a little "let's all hear it for the troops" speech with me the only visible person not applauding...tough shit...I ain't clapping for people who go 6,000 miles to steal oil and kill innocent people....fuck 'em! I'll have applause and compassion for 'em when they find some semblance of conscience. How I feel, can't help it. I'm fed up with the war and all the lies... Anyway.... rant over and I hope I never see another freaky bald Gordon Liddy lookalike starin' at ME like I was fresh meat for a Gitmo cell and a little water-boarding. Jeebus and Ramona! People cain't take a little political protest without the hatred just flowing out

POPSFrozen pickle pops. Wanna try? I have a hard time believing this is good, but on the other hand, I do love a good peanut-butter-and-pickle sandwich, so maybe I'd like this too.

POPS Local Food And Global Food An effort to clarify whether local produce is always more environmentally sound, at least in terms of the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the process of growing it, trucking it and shopping for it. If the only metric is greenhouse-gas emissions, it’s clear that local is not always better, as the article makes clear. But my guess is that most people seeking local produce are not in it to save the climate. This reflects, perhaps, the deeper challenge facing those trying to make global warming the single-topic environmental issue of our time. http://dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/11/energy-an-ingredient-in-local-food-and-global-food/#more-99

POPS"Terminator" Prototype Set To Hit Battlefield John Main, chief of DARPA’s exoskeleton program says the project is very much alive and that exoskeletons will be delivered for Army testing in 2008. After 14 companies and universities initially (circa 2001) came up with different designs, they have selected the firm that will build the beast: Sarcos of Salt Lake City in Utah, US. http://www.newscientist.com/blog/technology/2006/10/exoskeleton-update.html There's a video at the site.
