POPSAdministration Privately Admits Cap-And-Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year: FOIA Documents
So there you have it, from an internal Treasury Department document that cap-and-trade could generate federal receipts, i.e. tax revenue, in the range of $100 to $200 billion a year. Does that cost sound familiar to you? The Heritage Foundation has long predicted that: "The annual cost of emissions permits to energy users will be at least $100 billion by 2012 and could exceed $390 billion by 2035." This raises a whole other issue, that the $100 to $200 billion estimate by Treasury has no date or timeline of any kind. While Heritage follows the trajectory through to 2035, and even to 2050, the Treasury Department doesn't provide any further analysis or calculations. In a different memo, prepared by President Obama's transition team after the election, they throw this out there: "Economic costs will likely be on the order of 1% of GDP, making them equal in scale to all existing environmental regulation." That's another prediction offered up without any details as to . . .

POPSPresident's Speech - Short Form We know what the Congressional Budget Office has said about the price tag, and we know what Henry Waxman and Nancy Pelosi really really want and what the president himself has endorsed in the past, which is a single payer system

POPSBarney Frank Wants Cabinet Post Frank talks about how he struggled as a gay man growing up in blue-collar Bayonne, N.J. He dated women throughout high school and college, but knew he was gay at 13. Still, he delayed revealing his sexuality until he had established a foothold in the House. In the 501-page tome " to be released later this month " Frank is described by people who know him well as a masterful legislator, an impatient boss, and “socially handicapped.” One of the most riveting parts of the book is Frank’s recollection of his ethics scandal, when he paid a male prostitute for sex. Various media outlets called for Frank to resign, but he persevered by admitting his mistakes and asking the ethics committee to investigate him in 1989. Many Republicans, including then-Rep. Larry Craig (Idaho), called for serious sanctions against Frank, who was ultimately reprimanded by the House, 408-18. (California Democratic Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman both voted against the measure.)

POPSWhy Doesn't Waxman Intervene To Limit Baseball--NAY ALL SPORT'S SALARIES!? Obama - who knows about as much about baseball as I do about the mating habits of pterodactyls - would sign it. DONE DEAL! Then they could do all the other sports. AND THEN FASHION: AFTER ALL, CLOTHING IS A NECESSITY: SO WHY SHOULD DESIGNERS AND RETAILING EXECUTIVES MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!?! AND WHATTABOUT RESTAURANTS!? FOOD IS A NECESSITY, SO LET'S PUT A PRICE CAP ON EVERY DISH!!!!! This is the natural progress of leftist logic, so called. And it's dangerous. It's a grave and clear and present danger to our country. It must be stopped. - Posted by Reliapundit

POPS NOT N.I.C.E. (criticism of NICE has been ceaseless)
saw nothing wrong with running this unabashed love-letter to a health-care system, in effect, ruled by death panels (See my post on this last Friday, or Tom Maguire's Sunday item for more). Now, suddenly, to even suggest such a possibility is McCarthyism " now called Palinism " according to Richard Cohen. What drives me crazy about liberal complaints about conservative tactics these days is how selective they are. Obama, Barney Frank, Jacob Hacker, and others have said that they want these reforms " specifically the public option " to lead to single payer. But when conservatives take them at their word, suddenly it's outrageous misinformation and "fishy" stuff. When the wind is at their backs, liberals look way off to the horizon, like Obama at a podium, dreaming of a future of European-style statism. But when conservatives use this to their advantage, suddenly it is outrageous to even consider the possibility of a road to hell being paved with good intentions. . . .

POPS Dems win approval of health bill in committee Friday night Government involvement doesn’t accommodate certain things. Like errors. Or common sense. And that’s the real irony of liberals and their desire for government to “help.” Liberals say that they truly care about people. Or snail darters. Or baby seals. Or Gaia. And they want to use the government to make it all better. Like the government is your mommy taking care of your skint knee. That’s why the idea to let government run things — car companies, banks, health care — is a bad idea. Your mommy cares. Government regulations don’t care.

POPSCBO Pronounces ObaCare DOA But on Saturday, the Congressional Budget Office said the proposal to give an independent panel the power to keep Medicare spending in check would only save about $2 billion over 10 years- a drop in the bucket compared to the bill's $1 trillion price tag. July 25, 2009 CBO Deals New Blow to Health Plan For the second time this month, congressional budget analysts have dealt a blow to the Democrat's health reform efforts, this time by saying a plan touted by the White House as crucial to paying for the bill would actually save almost no money over 10 years. POPSHouse 'Blue Dogs' Flex New Muscle on Health Care to the deficit, may be just a coincidence. But it also could be a carrot that Obama and Democratic leaders hope will attract some Blue Dog votes for the health care overhaul. That bill appeared to be on track until last week, when Douglas Elmendorf, the director of the Congressional Budget Office, said it lacked steps to control the costs of health care in the future, one of the Blue Dogs' biggest concerns. Meetings on the health care bill between the Blue Dogs, Democratic leaders and the White House are continuing. Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., said he spent much of Wednesday in closed-door negotiations with Waxman and planned to resume them Thursday. "We didn't get an agreement," Ross said after Wednesday's meeting, adding that Obama's goal to have a bill passed by mid-August wasn't part of the talks. "I refused to discuss any artificial deadlines," Ross said. "That's not part of the talks."

POPSWaxman, Blue Dogs Strike Deal on Health Plan Costs
alerted members of his panel later in the day that they wouldn’t be resuming consideration of the bill until Thursday at the earliest, according to an e-mail from Republican aides. That news came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told her rank and file in a closed-door session that they were still on schedule to approve legislation before members leave town for the monthlong August recess. And that pledge, in turn, came after Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters that the House might recess for the summer without passing a bill. Democrats are still divided about the importance of the August deadline; while some members believe that delay means death for the health care reform, moderate members are lobbying the president for more time to consider such a sweeping piece of legislation. POPSDem Representative Admits: Obama Has Become a Political Liability

Barack Obama booed at All-Star Game- throws sissy pitch. UPDATE: Tom W. offers this: Call or e-mail your senators and representatives. Tell them you oppose cap and trade and nationalized health care. It's having an effect. They're listening to us. If we kill these two policies, we rob Obama of his political capital and he's over. Here's what I wrote: Dear ____________: I am writing to express my opposition to both the Waxman-Markey bill and President Obama’s proposed health-care reforms. They will cost far too much, reduce my choices and standard of living, and limit my freedoms. As an American, I find them unacceptable.
