George Washington's Hemp Crop
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  12-2-2009    6
The father of our country had painful wooden teeth. And cannabis is a potent painkiller found in traditional medical practices the world over going back thousands of years. Fiber hemp farmers don't separate the male from female plants. Marijuana farmers remove the male plants (which display their sex first) before they fertilize the females so that the females then produce lots of THC. Fertilized female plants produce very little THC, putting their energy into making seeds instead. Male plants produce almost no THC. I'm just sayin...

Drug Decriminalization in Portugal
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  4-6-2009
The political consensus in favor of decriminalization is unsurprising in light of the relevant empirical data. Those data indicate that decriminalization has had no adverse effect on drug usage rates in Portugal, which, in numerous categories, are now among the lowest in the EU, particularly when compared with states with stringent criminalization regimes. Although postdecriminalization usage rates have remained roughly the same or even decreased slightly when compared with other EU states, drug-related pathologies β€” such as sexually transmitted diseases and deaths due to drug usage β€” have decreased dramatically. Drug policy experts attribute those positive trends to the enhanced ability of the Portuguese government to offer treatment programs to its citizens β€” enhancements made possible, for numerous reasons, by decriminalization... The data show that, judged by virtually every metric, the Portuguese decriminalization framework has been a resounding success. Within this succ

What's wrong with the war against drugs
Lexica

More: Dr Teresa Tate, who has prescribed heroin and morphine for 25 years, first as a cancer doctor and now as medical adviser to Marie Curie Cancer Care. We asked her to compare heroin with paracetamol, legally available without prescription. She told us: "I think that most doctors would tell you that paracetamol is actually quite a dangerous drug when used in overdose, it has a fixed upper limit for its total dose in 24 hours and if you exceed that, perhaps doubling it, you can certainly put yourself at great risk of liver failure and of death, whereas with diamorphine, should you double the dose that you normally were taking, I think the consequence would be to be sleepy for a while and quite possibly not much more than that and certainly no permanent damage as a result." Contrary to the loudly expressed view of so many politicians, this specialist of 25 years experience told us that when heroin is properly used by doctors, it is "a very safe drug".

The Hemp Revolution [documentary]
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  12-4-2008
I firmly believe that economic and environmental imperatives will compel America to re-examine our relationship to this plant. It's going to get to the point where people realize that, aside from recreational use, it's just too damn useful a plant and it grows damn well just about anywhere. The cannabis plant helped defeat Germany and Japan. HEMP FOR VICTORY!
