Final word: Democrats are Worse Than Republicans
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-9-2009
It has been argued that the Democratic party is only about two degress left of the Republican party. Even is it is true, it is only true in a politically useless way. Their point of view on reproductive rights depends on if they are talking to religious bigots or progressives. Obama panders to the right-wing on health care for undocumented workers, who are, as usual, good enough to work for slave wages and pay into the system, but not good enough to receive benefits. On the issue of the war there could not be any clearer expression of the operational similarities between the Democrats and Republicans. This country is sorely in need of an independent, working class oriented, political movement that relentlessly attacks exploitation and oppression everywhere it rears its head. And the first step toward that is to lose all illusions in the Democratic Party, and stop providing any kind of left cover for them.

Could Taliban 4 Hire Be Defeated by Jobs Instead of Predator Rockets?
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  8-17-2009
Chances are that sending a couple of dozen day-labor brokers from any city in the US to Afghanistan and the SWAT area of Pakistan, with suicases of money and guards would bring the "insurgency" to a halt in about a month! So, why won't it happen? You have to hire General Dynamics, Lockheed and Boeing as the labor contractors and then it would happen. Follow the money, follow the money, follow the money!

New Hired Guns in Afghanistan?
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  8-2-2009
Flour Corp. claim to fame? Closing down former nuclear weapon factories across the USA with plenty of complaints from workers in the process. But Afghanistan is a long ways away and by the time efforts get audited, the money is gone and who knows where it went and for what. Will there be a Wendy's in Kabul or Abu Ghraibthat's what US rent-a-cops and Red Ball Express drivers want to know. It would be laughable if US soldiers were not paying the heavy price with lives and limbs depending on hired contractors for supplies.

Which should be cancelled?
darkeforce
by darkeforce  7-24-2009
Considering that only one of them is a completely useless piece of pork that will benefit no one, it should be an easy choice. Cancel the F-22 The others are going to greatly benefit all Americans very soon down the road. The F-22 will only benefit rich war profiteers. The military doesn't even use the F-22's it has now, because they cost way too much to operate! They're a money pit that will end up costing Americans more in the longrun than Obamacare certainly will.

UK Troops Need More Helicopters: BBC Headline
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  7-16-2009
While reading this extensive BBC article about a UK "helicopter issue," in its war in Afghanistan I was wondering if there would be any schematics about latest helicopter models, wind tunnel test results, info about functioning during sand storms and other Helicopter Considerations. But I had Other Questions. It struck me that the real question was not helicopters, but what are you doing fighting a war in Afghanistan? And...Gosh, I wondered....how many times do the British have to get defeated and kicked out of Afghanistan before they get the message? And...How many pounds are the war profiteers and British Petroleum now making? And how long can the largest anti-war protest world history (one million in London) continued to be meaningless. And...How many more pounds of flesh do the warmongers need for their latest campaigns of exploitation for the benefit of corporations and the SuperRich? And..How many lies have to come out of Downing Street before the bricks beg

Bush Hypocrisy on Israeli Settlements Exposed
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  6-3-2009    2
Not that there should have been any doubts about this: It's been decades of the USA saying "two state solution," and no settlements and it was always just two-faced phony words. At least now Israel has confirmed that. Another item in the news today was a survey that Only three countries in the world are less peaceful than Israel, according to Global Peace Index figures released this week. I don't know about this, though, it strikes me that Gaza has been turned into one of the worst places to live but I guess they're not an official nation, in truth more like a prison with the ongoing blockade and subject to wanton Israeli violence. The countries invaded by America were the worst places to live. Internal U.S. propaganda and flag waving often has people not realizing what a deadly killing machine it is. Best to stay out of its way. All such lies, phony words, false flag waving and ongoing murder and destruction, btw, benefits the war profiteers, not our nation or it's peo

Netanyahu defies Obama on Israeli settlement freeze
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  5-24-2009    2
Whew! I'm glad this hoax is over. Last week Netanyahu also declared an undivided Jerusalem under Israeli control is also 'non-negotiable.' These two issues have been the 'pretenses of peace," for the last 40 years, the U.S. position, loved by liberals, and never intended by Israel to be honest or in good faith; now that is clearer. Perhaps, though, the West might agree (with Tony Blair's help) of the need to disarm all the Palestinians and have them ruled by USA funded and Israeli controlled police thugs and politicians...another component of the ongoing 'pretenses for peace. The previous proposals are now called, btw, "a dead letter." The best real policy, of course, would be to withdraw all Western and U.S. support for this fascist, apartheid Zionist state. It's been the worse mistaken decision in U.S. history and not in our people's interest...although certainly in the interest of our never end war military machine and war profiteers. End this lifetime of wars. No

Obama's Triple Surge Into Afghanistan
papananook
by papananook  3-26-2009    1
What Obama has not mentioned is that, in addition to soldiers and civilians, there is a third surge in his plan: private military contractors. Yes, another privatized army, such as the one in Iraq. There, the Halliburtons, Blackwaters and other war profiteers ran rampant, shortchanging our troops, ripping off taxpayers, killing civilians and doing deep damage to America's good name. Already, there are 71,000 private contractors operating in Afghanistan, and many more are preparing to deploy as Pentagon spending ramps up for Obama's war. The military is now offering new contracts to security firms to provide armed employees (aka, mercenaries) to guard U.S. bases and convoys. Despite the widespread contractor abuses in Iraq, Pentagon chief Robert Gates defends the ongoing privatization push: "The use of contractor security personnel is vital to supporting the forward-operating bases in certain parts of the country," he declared in a February letter to the Senate Armed Services Committ

U.S. Bans Cluster Bomb Exports

Excellent! It’s about time. What? Wait a minute, they’re still going to allow a . . . safer . . . indiscriminate killer?!? Are you kidding me? The U.S. will still use them IF they leave behind less than 1% of their submunitions. This is still unacceptable. Oh, but wait. We have the word of the receiving country that these evil inventions won’t be used where civilians are known to be present. Oh, well then, that makes it okay?!? I was seriously hoping that George Bush and his cronies would be grumbling at the loss of income these horrific weapons provide.

The Afghan Scam-- The Untold Story
papananook
by papananook  1-13-2009
see article--very good Instead, the Bush administration perpetrated a scam. It used the system it set up to dispense reconstruction aid to both the countries it "liberated," Afghanistan and Iraq, to transfer American taxpayer dollars from the national treasury directly into the pockets of private war profiteers. Think of Halliburton, Bechtel, and Blackwater in Iraq; Louis Berger Group, Bearing Point, and DynCorp International in Afghanistan. They're all in it together. So far, the Bush administration has bamboozled Americans about its shady aid program. Nobody talks about it. Yet the aid scam, which would be a scandal if it weren't so profitable for so many, explains far more than does troop strength about why, today, we are on the verge of watching the whole Afghan enterprise go belly up.

Bill Cunningham: A-hole warrior in the class war
spirithiker
by spirithiker  1-5-2009    2
The list is long of people that proves this fool wrong: Jesus was poor, Mother Teresa was poor, the Dalai Lama is poor, can anyone argue against their integrity, ethics, values and/or morals? George Bush and Dick Cheney are rich, they committed countless atrocities against their own countrymen; Congress is full of rich people who pad their financial nest eggs with public money, thrive on countless perks, and give themselves annual pay raises; the most heinous scandals against the general public are perpetrated not by poor people but by the very rich; arms dealers and war profiteers are rich, their records speak for themselves; corporate lawyers are rich, they are paid to delay settlements to any victim of corporate malfeasance through legal loopholes; the list goes on. So, any trust fund kid who has never worked a day in their lives are considered more moral, ethical and have higher values than someone born to poor parents and cannot get a break to pull themselves out of it.

Afghanistan Looming as Huge Mire of wasted lives, resources
papananook
by papananook  9-17-2008    1
When will we ever learn? Trying to bomb these people (at great cost in innocent lives) into submission in a guerrilla war is incredibly stupid. The Russians couldn't do it and apparently we didn't learn our lessons well in Vietnam, Jungle/desert comparison aside. Their will to defend their own turf is rooted in the ages while ours is in greed and misguided ideology and there's the rub. Fools. What a waste of lives and resources and perception of good will worldwide. It's NOT a "good" war, if there are any. And changing strategy to more troops is folly of the worst kind but great for the war profiteers.

US Government Takes On Six Trillion Dollars of Bad Debt
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-6-2008
This is like a bank robbery. Wall St. & Congress have conspired in the largest stealing of tax dollars in US History. This equals all the other failures of Bush/Cheeney and their cohorts. In comparrison, five (5) years messing over Iraq -- who had nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD's -- has yet to cost a trillion dollars, while this government bailout takes on liability for SIX trillion dollars,,, ... buying all these bad debt mortgage loans to save banker's butts and passing on that debt to tax payers. This should be no surprise. It's like FEMA in New Orleans. It's like starting a war for false reasons. It's like letting bin Laden run around alive and free. It's like running out of money to build and repair roads and bridges. It's like joblessness hitting the highest levels in five years. It's our country going down the tubes, whether for Wall St. bankers, Oil companies, or the interests of Israel. Bend over America, this is the final screw job of evil profiteers dest
