POPSAmreeka: The Movie As luck would have it, Muna has come to the US at the start of the Iraq War. Anti-Arab sentiment is raging in some quarters. Her brother-in-law, a doctor, has lost patients due to backlash, and her sister is quickly losing patience with the hatred and fear that mars their lives. Though educated and with experience in banking, Muna is unable to find work in her field, but knowing that she must become independent, continues to search for employment, finally finding a job at a local fast food restaurant. Tensions build as Muna, ashamed, tries to hide her place of work from her son and sister; as Fadi deals with bullying bigots at school; and as her sister's family begins to unravel in response to the pressures of the war, and the enormous hardships resulting from anti-Arab bias. Through it all, Muna not only survives, but remains hopeful and thankful for each kind gesture from strangers and new-found friends who come to her assistance in ways small and not so small.

In order to provide $152 billion in so-called fiscal stimulus, the government is draining close to $800 billion from the private-sector savings supply " $800 billion that will not be invested in new-business enterprises, including small businesses. To be honest, it’s hard to know what Biden is talking about at any given moment he opens his mouth. But on the economy and the “stimulus” plan he’s even more incoherent than usual. (Actually, I suspect Biden was brought on board the ticket to provide Obama with a comic side-kick. Buddy movie politics.) The economy is a shambles directly because of the policies of the Obama administration. Kudlow predicts a minimum 500 point Wall Street rally if ObamaCare fails. (I’d bet on a lot higher, frankly).

Here’s my Boston Herald story from December 2001: The passengers on American Airlines Flight 63 had finished a quiet lunch and were settling in for the long Atlantic flight faced with nothing more exciting than a movie when a flight attendant cried out for help yesterday. French TV journalist Thierry Dugeon, 36, was 10 rows behind the fracas in coach. “Suddenly, I heard a female voice, `I need some help! I need some help!’ ” Dugeon said. Instinctively, he ran up the narrow aisle to join the group of passengers in a desperate struggle with a man believed to have a bomb. “It’s three months after September 11th. Of course the first thing you think is something like terrorism,” Dugeon said. Dugeon described the melee that lasted long minutes.
