Children deficient in sunshine vitamin
gemfemfox
by gemfemfox  8-7-2009    9
And they are fat too. Could their be any correlation with the fact kids no longer play outside? Even in smalltown USA? Crazy. Do your kids bodies and minds a favor, kick their a*ses outside everyday. It was good enough for my parents, and it's good enough for my kids too. There is also strong evidence that cancer patients are more likely, than not, grossly deficient in Vit D. Maybe instead of spending thousands on health care and gym memberships, we should just go outside in the sunshine, sans sunscreen and take a walk.

Can Calcium Actually Make Your Bones Weaker?
brightlight4
by brightlight4  5-23-2009
Unprocessed Salt – A Better Alternative to Calcium Supplementation Dr. Thompson believes that unprocessed salts are one of the best sources of these ionic trace minerals responsible for catalyzing many important functions in your body. I have been a long time fan of high quality salt, and even more so once I learned of Himalayan salt, which I believe is one of the healthiest salts on the planet. High quality salts like Himalayan contain vitally important trace minerals from the ancient oceans that are not contaminated with toxins, and which are very difficult to get in your food due to the challenges of modern agricultural practices

Understanding Vitamin D - the not-really-a-vitamin vitamin
Lexica
by Lexica  2-23-2009    1
More: There are 3 ways for adults to insure adequate levels of vitamin D: * regularly receive midday sun exposure in the late spring, summer, and early fall, exposing as much of the skin as possible. * regularly use a sun bed (avoiding sunburn) during the colder months. * take 5,000 IU per day for three months, then obtain a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test. Adjust your dosage so that blood levels are between 50–80 ng/mL (or 125–200 nM/L) year-round. Is it just me, or is saying " cholecalciferol is pronounced cho·le·cal·ci·fer·ol " rather less than helpful? Dictionary.com says it's pronounced koh- luh -kal-SIF- uh -rawl .

My experience with teens taught me to just leave the right foods in easy eyeshot, they will be devoured. My vitamin supplement as a teen was cider vinegar. I don't even like balsamic vinegar on salad because of it.

B12 Usual Dosage
Piano
by Piano  12-12-2008
The dosage for B12 deficiency is lower. A maintenance dose injection every one to three months is not sufficient for MS -- only as a treatment for B12 deficiency. However, please note the initial one to two week course would require 7 to 14 doses (1 injection every day) which would use up to about half of a 30 ml prescription. In a year the regimen would only require another 12 doses which accounts for the one prescription fill per year. This regimen is not adequate for MS -- only B12 deficiency. -LC
