POPSMicrobicides could lead to tougher HIV
An estimated 33 million people have HIV. 66% in Africa. More than 61% of Africans with HIV are women who have been infected by their partners. They have found tougher HIV is not as likely to be transmitted. Microbicides work with consistent application, and in conjunction with anti HIV medication, which may not be taken. Reminds me of how Penicillin was once considered to be the the cure for many known diseases. It wasn't long before bacteria developed that were resistant, and the next generation of antibiotics needed to be developed. Now we have the top of the line Methycillin, and MRSA-Methycyllin resistant Staphylococcus Aureas -Golden Staph, and we're reaching the end of this line.. We tried to beat nature, and nature caught us and beat us back. As penicillin was a natural by product of a microorganism, it stands to reason that as many other species have natural antibiotics and defense mechanisms, we can find the next generation of antibiotics by following natures lead.

POPSConservatives At Odds With McCain But perhaps more importantly, he has long been an advocate of entitlement reform. He was early an ardent support of personal accounts for Social Security, and has pushed for serious Medicare reform, including means-testing. Almost alone among Republicans, he opposed the disastrous Medicare prescription drug benefit. "On domestic policy, he has shown a disturbing predilection for elevating every personal pet peeve, from steroids in baseball to airplane service quality, to a federal issue. And, he has embraced heavily regulatory environmental policies and compulsory national service. Like George W. Bush, he tends to support federal power over federalism, executive authority over legislative, and generally leans toward the imperial presidency. For believers in individual liberty and limited government, it's a decidedly mixed bag. But, then again, aren't they all?"

POPSWhy a Semantic Web Will Be Smarter, Faster & All-Around Better In order to take it to the next level, and move from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0—the information in documents will have to be turned into data that machines can read and evaluate autonomously. Only then will computers be able to take over tasks we now have to do ourselves, such as find the nearest restaurant, book the best flight, or buy the cheapest video game.

POPSAnother Second Life resource... I am wondering where the market is for these services. If you have spent any amount of time in Second Life you will quickly realize everyone and their cousin is a consultant for Second Life. If you ask a consultant who their target is, they always want to bring in Big Corporate. My question is: Why? Are these consultants truly listening to their market? From what I am seeing, those interested in Second Life are there because they enjoy the environment. That is the fun of Second Life-getting in there and doing it yourself. My advice to Big Corporate: be very aware of intellectual property laws. Read Linden Research Labs fine print.
