Bad online behavior is usually handled within the rules set up by online worlds, which can ban miscreants or take away their virtual possessions. In recent years, virtual lives have had consequences in the real world.

CSI Comes To Second Life
kidora
by kidora  10-20-2007
An upcoming episode of CSI:NY will occur partly in Second Life. It will center around a murder who is stalking his prey virtually through SL. While I am not a big fan of CSI (can anyone say overacting) this episode will be interesting for one main reason... How many people will sign up for SL after the episode, and will the influx of users crash the SL servers? This should be cool :)

Murderer's Mother Blames Videogames for Sons's Actions
PatrisTimoris
by PatrisTimoris  7-19-2007    1
It is staggering the lengths people will go to lay blame elsewhere. I knew he was playing the video games but we didn't really know what went on in them, how brutal and graphic they were. Indifference to your child's activities cannot be blamed on an entertainment medium. he donned a long dark wig, sunglasses and jacket from the ‘killing kit' he had spent 10 months amassing on eBay. He then headed out with a large hunting knife. and police discovered that, before the murder, Harling spent days on the internet talking to paedophiles and researching serial killers So the internet supplied the research and the materials, where is the outrage against the internet? "Stuart never gave us any reason to think he was violent at all. He was a very normal boy—quiet and reserved. Except that he was playing violent games and the using the internet to research serial killers and purchasing the equipment necessary to mimic them

Second Life: What's wrong with your first life?
redhead328
by redhead328  1-25-2007
At first glance Second Life appears to draw people together as a community, but in "reality" it only facilitates further the further alienation of it's members with the people in their "real life".

'Grand Theft Auto' makers blamed for triple killing
TheCatWhisperer

Give me a #%&ing break! Stop blaming video games because you neglect your kids!!!!! Video games don't breed homicidal maniacs, bad parent, bad schooling, bad society does! (With a healthy (or unhealthy) smattering of mental disorder...) These pricks are likely just wanting to blame someone for their own miserable failures, and are seeing big price tags at rockstar & co. It's pathetic.
