POPSIt's time to embrace American royalty About this latest hiring by NBC, Atrios observed: "if only the Villager values of nepotism and torture could be combined somehow." The American Prospect's Adam Serwer quicky noted that they already have been: "Liz Cheney." Liz Cheney is really the perfect face of Washington's political culture, a perfect manifestation of all the rotting diseases that define it and a pure expression of what our country has become and the reasons for its virtual ruin. She should really be on every political TV show all day every day. It's almost as though things can't really be expressed thoroughly without including her. Jenna Bush as a new NBC "reporter" on The Today Show -- at a time when every media outlet is firing and laying off real reporters -- is a very nice addition though.

POPSDangerous Anti-Family Garden & Farm Legislation If you like to garden, grow your own food or have farm animals, pay close attention to this legislation, cloaked under guise of "public safety". It would... literally prohibit Americans from raising food for themselves, their families, or even for their animals, without the uber alles national government's permission!... makes Americans serfs on their own land! Go to the site to take action if you want to be able to have your own garden or family farm unregulated by the FSA or the UN's WHO. Either that or prepare to be a virtual serf where the government controls your private land and property.

POPSThe name-letter effect “We’ve shown time and time again that people are attracted to people, places and things that resemble their names, without a doubt.” In studies that make believers in free will squirm, Dr. Pelham’s team asserts that names and the letters in them are surprisingly influential in people’s lives. In one experiment, participants of both sexes evaluated a young woman more favorably when the number on the jersey she was wearing had been subliminally paired with their own names on a computer screen. “Self-similarity is really one of the largest driving forces of behavior of social beings,” said Jeremy Bailenson, the director of Stanford University’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab. There are more prosaic reasons that people may feel connected to their Googlegängers, though. They may share a name because they belong to the same ethnic group, or their families may have had similar aspirations for them.

POPSMunchausen by Internet...Faking Illness Online. An interesting article on a syndrome all too familiar to me. I run an internet site for recovery from addiction and I get all too many testimonials that are fabrications of imagination or need for attention. It's sad, but these people need help too.
