POPSStevens Jurors Hear Incriminating Tape "They agreed to 'make that disappear'". Senator Stevens is guilty of having dishonest friends. The jury is still out on Stevens' collusion with this plot to defraud the government.

POPSPakistans terrorist war, and ours. Why is it that the Australian media has a fuller coverage of the ongoing anti-terrorist war than Britain. Is there a reluctance to remind the immigrant population that their leaders in the Himalayas want to destroy everything English speaking nations have created? For those who did not see the Nu Lieber Party conference, a sizeable part of the audience hold more affiliation to the Third World then they do to the Ancient Anglo Saxon society upon which there appears an attempt to destroy. Is this observation isolated?

POPSMore Evidence of Sanctified Civil Liberty Violations
Border Agents are now allowed to search you and your car and belongings without evidence or suspicion of wrong doing. They can make copies of anything you have in your possession including laptops, cell phones, personal papers, diaries, date books, etc. What they do with this information ends up on government databases to be added to your very own file which, of course, you cannot access but every law enforcement agency across the country can, with or without a valid reason. If citizens were not aware that there are unethical individuals in law enforcement and scattered throughout the government who can access these files, and if we did not know that files get ‘lost’, and if we were not aware that computer files get hacked into, why would we worry? But these things have all become reality and pervasive. First Amendment rights are one of the last protections we Americans have against this government becoming a Fascist state. And since George W Bush was first elected, his gan

POPSThe Real Culprits - Part Two The Clinton-era corruption, combined with unprecedented catering to affordable-housing lobbyists, resulted in today's nationalization of both Fannie and Freddie, a move that is expected to cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars.

POPSArms Trade Flows Freely According to US state department figures this week, Iraq has signed more than $3bn worth of arms deals in the past two years. Amnesty estimates that more than 1m small arms have been sold to Iraq since the 2003 invasion and the Iraqi government plans to procure more than 250,000 from the US and China. And the irresponsible war profiteering continues. Russia has agreed to supply 27 helicopters to Sudan, says Amnesty. Last year, Sudan listed its main arms suppliers as China, Russia, North Korea, Belarus, Indonesia, Iran and Malaysia. Some of these weapons are being used by Al Qaeda against U.S. troops. Is there no better reason to halt this illegal/immoral war?

POPSFor safety-conscious New Yorkers: CraneWatch b.v0.8 An interactive social mashup site where New Yorkers can research construction sites in their neighborhoods, find current information on safety violations, report street-level observations, and submit news and photos. Very intelligent use of social web technology.

POPSNo one in "murrika mourns for the "Collaterals" In the spirit of Dr. King, I too have a dream. I have a vision of a Truth Commission in the United States that will create a process of accountability for the war crimes and human rights violations committed by the Bush administration during these past eight years. I see a campaign that will enable our citizens to eventually cast a vote for the principles of the Hague and Geneva Conventions that protect the rights of prisoners of war and of civilian populations. I see a growing movement of citizens empowered to bring Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and others into a process of justice for their commissioning of illegal wiretapping, torturing prisoners, and killing innocent civilians.

POPSAre We Safer Now? I doubt if the public's safety was forefront in this misguided attempt to silence protest during the RNC. Partly because of hysterical paranoia of terrorists the powers that be have long used the pretense of protection to denigrate and undermine our most basic rights and freedoms. And do we stand up and raise our fists in anger over theses blatant stabs to our freedoms? Afraid not. It seems everyone just sits back in their easy chairs and watches as the powers that be wall off protesters to Orwellian "Protest Zones". Yes, bad people want to do us harm. But a modicum of sanity should accompany our plans to provide a reasonable level of protection from these people. As it is now, this smacks more of politics than of legitimate protection.

POPSMassive police raids on suspected protestors in Minneapolis The hammer is coming down in Minneapolis in advance of the Republican National Convention. Unlike Denver which saw no protests to speak of, RNCC is expecting trouble. My friend Jane Hamsher and Glenn Greenwald are covering activities by the various local and federal police agencies working in concert together to disrupt the protestors in advance of the convention.

POPSPolice Raid Homes in Twin Cities Prior to RNC The above is from Glenn Greenwald. As is always the case with Greenwald's posts, it's worth reading in its entirety . While it seems at first read to be a preemptive attempt to stop protests, a moment's thought should tell you that it guarantees them. In fact, it may even provoke violence. While I hesitate to say that the St. Paul police are trying to ensure riots for the networks, I can't say it doesn't look like they are.

POPSChina Goes Out With a Bang....... ........ and The Whimper of the Oppressed is Barely Heard........ I wonder, though, if anyone oohing and aahing over the fireworks in Beijing gave thought to the thousands of Chinese peasants who will die because their government took their water away so it could produce the fake beauty of the Olympic compound. Maybe we’ll see that story show up in an NBC news report, do you think? I’m sure the network will get right on that as soon as it gets up off its knees and straightens up its clothing.

POPSI'm Pro Choice but I Agree with the Bush Administration on This One I'm all for a woman's right to choose if she wants to end a pregnancy. But surprisingly, I'm with the Bush administration on protecting healthcare workers who wish not to be involved in abortions. Just as a woman should have the right to choose (after consulting with the father of course), doctors and other healthcare professionals should be able to choose not to participate in procedures they are inherently against.

POPSMore Big Pharma, Bad Science - Non-smoking Drug Now, which is worse in your opinion... Smoking or Suicide? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Most would answer ...I THINK I WOULD RATHER SMOKE THAN FOR SURE KILL MYSELF BY TAKING A DRUG TO NOT SMOKE. The saddest part of this is that they (BIG PHARMA) are using our veterans as Guinea pigs in their trial and error tests. Just so they can put on the market more deadly drugs and coerce, we the public to buy into their schemes that make them rich!
