POPSBang Mi? Top 10 Foodie Typos Haste makes waste. It can also make very entertaining typos. It takes a keen eye (or a Jay Leno Show intern) to spot the exceptional gem on a takeout menu or expose the unintentional comedy amongst rambling food metaphors.

POPS Google Limits Free Access To News Articles Murdoch is wrong if he thinks any but a small number of people will pay for his websites. I visit the TImes regularly and would miss particularly access to the Sunday Times. Not enough however to pay for the privilege, the reality is the same stories will appear for free elsewhere, and on the rare occasions News International does have a genuine scoop, it's a matter of minutes before the same story appears - especially via twitter, or RSS. All this will do is drive clicks to other providers who do not charge. It remains possible however Murdoch was overplaying his hand in order to obtain this concession from google, and his pay for view plan will include free access to a limited number of pages each day - however this bait approach will fall on the same basis, as users will just find the same content elsewhere.

POPSIs social media making us safer? I suppose this may seem obvious, but i hadn't really thought about it. I've heard talk about how people shouldn't post things like "on vacation" on twitter because criminals can use that info to go rob your house. But the idea that people have instantaneous ways to get information and reach out definitely suggests that we could become more efficient in crime avoidance. Thinking that a great idea for a new service would be some kind of social network 911 call. Press a certain button and automatically post an alert to the following people via twitter, facebook, sms, etc. Then, using GPS, the people could get your message and your location.

POPSPhilosophy delivered via Twitter? Well, no. The philosopher interviewed in this article uses twitter to generate ideas and work around writer's block. She is interested in the question of whether or not philosophy could be done on twitter, but thinks probably not.

POPSHow Facebook Ruins Friendships
Like many people, I'm experiencing Facebook Fatigue. I'm tired of loved ones"you know who you are"who claim they are too busy to pick up the phone, or even write a decent email, yet spend hours on social-media sites, uploading photos of their children or parties, forwarding inane quizzes, posting quirky, sometimes nonsensical one-liners or tweeting their latest whereabouts. ("Anyone know a good restaurant in Berlin?") One of the big problems is how we converse. Typing still leaves something to be desired as a communication tool; it lacks the nuances that can be expressed by body language and voice inflection. "Online, people can't see the yawn," says Patricia Wallace, a psychologist at Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth and author of "The Psychology of the Internet." But let's face it, the problem is much greater than which tools we use to communicate. It's what we are actually saying that's really mucking up our relationships. "Oh my God, a college friend . . .

Watch for free foursquare swag on the week of the 9th around Vancouver. This could be at GM Place for a concert, Medina Cafe for breakfast, or the YVR airport on your way out of town."

POPSI-Report Leaks Ahmadinejad Requesting Council Implement "Pure Islamic State" It’s impossible to tell if this is Dinnerjacket’s standard nutty boilerplate about the Islamic paradise eventually conquering the world or if he’s talking about a more specific “plan” for hardliners to assert themselves in Iran.... Update II: The video was also uploaded to Youtube in two parts five days ago. Update III: Jawa Reader Garduneh Mehr is also able to understand the video. Here's his take on it. 4. Throughout he makes intentionally ambiguous references to their "Goals and fondest wishes". 5. He says: "Fighting corruption and meting out justice is the source of much joy; but the greater joy is when our Primary Goal is achieved. 7. "Revolution has found its own way and a new phase has begun." 8. "A difficult period has ended; yet an even more difficult period has begun."

POPSOPERATION TWEET: Iran Election Unrest Fomented via Twitter Here is some powerful evidence. In addition to "Israeli interests" it also could be Mossad or even CIA operatives for that matter thru their "propaganda" wings. (The US has fomented revolutions in Iran before, as even Obama acknowledged publicly). The article continues: Why were these tweets in English? Why were all of these profiles OBSESSED with Iran? It became obvious that this was the work of a team of people with an interest in destabilizing Iran. The profiles are phonies and were created with the sole intention of destabilizing Iran and effecting public opinion as to the legitimacy of Iran’s election. Frankly the "private videos" now being shown by the US media (which piled on Ahmandinejad along with the neocon propaganda) look entirely spurious, and could be faked as well...blurry lines of people. It has all the credibility of a "bin Laden" video.
