POPSMore on The War in Georgia It should be clear by now, the EU slept at the wheel, US egged Saakashvili on, Russia responded with a vengeance. There is no just war, and never has been, never will be.

POPSGeorgia strikes back at Russia...in beach volleyball But it would not be Georgian blood to stain the white sands of Beijing. Georgia struck back in the second set, leading their countrymen to triumph with a slim victory of 22 to 20. After a 15 to 12 win in the third set, the world realized they were right to not bother helping Georgia to fight back the Russian hordes. As those two Georgian chicks pressed their unbelievably tiny bikini bottoms together in a victory hug, it was clear to the world that this is one little country that knows how to take care of itself.

POPSJimmy Carter on GTMO To stay the hand of vengeance.....Not Bush and Co. Vengeance and weapons are the only, well oil, thing on their mind. But perhaps just as it happened to Hitler: The demise may come out of their own ranks. We need a Stauffenberg who could change history.

POPSSpying On America- Police Survailance 60ties Style Not since Richard Nixon and the Anti War Movement were Americans spied on like this. Actually, it has gotten more sophisticated, widespread and more incriminating for the current government. Decent and critical opinions, have once more become synonymous with Anti-Patriotism, drugs and now: Terrorism. This must be the revenge for the sixties from those who were stopped then and now are lashing out with a vengeance.

POPSJudicial Barbarism Although I am an opponent of the death penalty, I think this was the wrong decision. Why? Because it enshrines barbarism in our legal system. By saying that the death penalty is not warranted unless the victim of the crime was also killed, the justices have defined our legal system as an instrument not of justice but of vengeance. Justice is the protection of the weak, and the assurance that wrongs, once committed, will not be repeated. Justice should not spring from vindictive passion, but instead from a love for all those in society. Our legals system is there to protect us from henious individuals who menace society, not to torture them for our own sadistic satisfaction. If we merely revisit their own crimes back on them, we are not just, but savage, not civilized but barbaric.

POPSThe Burden of Transcending Race For blacks, the worst thing it seems (at least in the minds of whites) is to be seen as black, which is no doubt why so many whites think it's a compliment to say things to black folks like, "I don't even think of you as black," not realizing that the subtext of such a comment is that it's a damned good thing they don't, for if they did, the person so thought of would be up the proverbial creek for sure. the success of Barack Obama has proven, perhaps more so than any other single thing could, just how powerful race remains in America. His success, far from disproving white power and privilege, confirms it with a vengeance.

POPSKhaled Abou El Fadl: Jihad Gone Wrong Khaled Abou el Fadl is a professor at the School of Law at the University of California. He is a prominent Islamic scholar and intellectual. In this interview, El Fadl talks about suicide bombings, misinterpretations of 'jihad' and the humanist tradition of Islam.

POPS15 Most amazing co-incidences There are 15, and 14 in the clip the rest can be found following the bottom link. I had a really weird co-incidence that took over 10 years to unfold. I was hit by a bike, while getting out of a bus in 1985. I never met the rider. In 1990 I was hit by a car while running across peak hour traffic. I was quite prepared to admit I was responsible I shouldn't have crossed the road, but I was waiting for a bus and wanted to get across the road and back before the bus came. The peak hour traffic was flowing at 45 mph. I never met the Driver. In around 1997, My Nan discovered (she liked to keep things like this in a diary) that one of her friends that she had met at the retirement village. was grandmother to both the rider, and the driver. While there may have been a co-incidence, I still can't help thinking the fact that I'm still alive is a miracle. (Maybe I've just got a reinforced skull)

POPSDownside To Technology I clipped this story a while back from the NY times. There is also an interesting segment about freedom of speech on Dr. Phil's website. I recommend watching the whole show.

Maybe one of these years Santa will come back with a vengeance after commandeering a massive robotic body, now bigger, better and stronger than ever. “No, you dirty bastards,” he’ll scream at any whimpering humans who cross his path, “It is you who will eat pizza…until your pathetic organic bodies explode!”
