POPSAre The Chinese Trying To Tell Us Something? This is scary. My family does not live and can not yet afford to move to a property where we can produce our own food; particularly, vegetables and fruits. We don't live near a farmer's market. So, we rely, like many Americans, on our local commissary or supermarket. The way I read this article, it's telling us there is very little we can do about this problem of tainted food and other necessities because by squashing China's imports we would be shooting ourselves in the foot. So it seems as if China is sending us poison--because they can. And there is nothing we can do about it. Even a vegan diet is not immune to potential poisoning unless you totally go homegrown.

POPSHow the Personal Genome Project Could Unlock the Mysteries of Life ...You would very quickly begin to see meaningful and powerful correlations between particular genetic sequences and particular physical characteristics, from height and hair color to disease risk and personality. Church has done more than imagine such an undertaking; he has launched it: The Personal Genome Project, an effort to make those correlations on an unprecedented scale, began last year with 10 volunteers and will soon expand to 100,000 participants. It will generate a massive database of genomes, phenomes, and even some omes in between.

POPSChickens Are People Too! *LOL* I've had lots of pet chickens. My last one, Molly was a fiery little "Red Dwarf" with an awesome attitude! She was queen of the roost even over all the cats. Aah, I loved that funny hen. *LOL* Anyway! I'm not a vegan. I believe chickens are "meant" to be eaten by us, just as we one day will be food for others, be it worms or Azaleas. (or White Pointers, if you're an Aussie. Ha ha!) The point is respect. Treat animals with dignity and respect and be thankful for the nourishment they provide. We're all just part of the food chain. Don't waste or squander, but be thankful for the food you are lucky to have. (Not all are as lucky as us, to be able to eat every day.) Check out all the cool comments from fellow clippers on the clip about plants having feelings , for some really cool thoughts on consciousness and awareness and interconnectedness. Mind-expanding! Molly died of old age, by the way...

POPSBest Vegan Banana Muffins
Nutrition based on 10 servings, vegetable oil: 98cal, 3.1g fat, 0.6g saturated, 0mg cholesterol, 64mg sodium, 16.6g carbs, 1.4g fiber, 6g sugar, 1.6g protein Some comments: I liked them a lot -- they are very chewy from the oats, not cakey like banana bread or typical banana muffins These muffins are so good. I think I'm addicted, I can't stop eating them. I didn't have any vegan butter so I just used vegetable oil instead. I tried these once, and now they're a weekend ritual. The last time I made them I was out of sugar, so I used brown sugar... and I think it made them even better. And for a bit of a different flavor, try chopped peanuts. This is a great recipe. The oats adds a little crunch to it and is a twist to the traditional banana bread muffin. Next time I will use less sugar or even none as it tastes very sweet. I think just the banana adds enough sweetness. VEGANI: I like this recipe because it was a very simple process and turned out great. I only got 6 sm-med sized

POPSImagine world without suffering... ...And this world is just step away. Away from killing. Animal, birds, fish... whoever we (most of us now) are eating. God (Mother Nature, Karma, whatever it is) not forgiving us for breaking its rules to live in harmony with surrounding world and punishing us for our ignorance. If only diabetes! Whole metabolic syndrome with depressions and host of mood disorders, disfiguring obesity, heart failure as direct result. Everything starting from what we putting in our mouths. Far from everything what we can chew and swallow can be good for your body! Watch what you eating and drinking! Educate yourself. You will be terrified what we doing now and inevitably come to the vegan lifestyle, where is no place for cruelty, diseases, tricks and sufferings.

POPSKids with high IQs grow up to be vegetarians "Vegetarians were more likely to be female, of higher social class and better educated, but IQ was still a significant predictor of being vegetarian after adjustment for these factors, Gale said. "Vegetarian diets are associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk in a number of studies, so these findings suggest that a such a diet may help to explain why children or adolescents with a higher IQ have a lower risk of coronary heart disease as adults," Gale said." Not everyone agrees, of course. But it makes a lot of sense to me.

POPSHot Sesame Green Beans I just made green beans using the ingredients listed in this recipe (but not the amounts - I winged it) and they were delicious. I think that the real secret is to let the beans brown. Well, that and the red pepper flakes. Mmm...

POPSA Conservative Youth Culture Comming? Although my politics match my parents, left for left, sometimes I dress more conservatively than they do. They listen to Rancid and Radiohead, and worry about me when I get fed up and talk trash about raw-vegan hippies. Nothing stays the same for long. I have always wondered whether the pendulum will swing back towards the conservative, or whether we will simply become increasingly liberal, liberated and libertine? Looking back, history seems to suggest the later, and each subsequent age has been more liberated than the last... Or am I wrong? Is there in fact a cycle at work here? If so, what place and time has been as socially liberal as we are today?

POPSMashed Cauliflower Has anyone here tried mashed cauliflower? I've heard a lot of people talking about it, but I've never tried it.
