POPSFURY AT VACCINE SCANDAL Frontline health workers, social workers, prison officers and binmen have to be vaccinated against hepatitis B as a condition of their employment. This is to protect them from contracting potentially fatal conditions from infected blood through needle injuries or physical assaults. Although they are not legally forced to have the vaccinations, without them they are not allowed to work. Experts believe the injections caused the health problems, which include chronic fatigue, muscle pain, weakness and cognitive problems, because illnesses developed soon after vaccination. In one case Steve Robinson, a previously fit 43-year-old father of three, was vaccinated six years ago against hepatitis A, B and polio, tetanus and diphtheria as part of his work as a forensic specialist.

POPSHarvard: Swine Flu Pandemic Oversold; Fear Mongering Gov't To Blame? A little speculation here as to motives. Mine leans more to promoting the need for the universal health care system that was/is being forced upon us. As the article says, this is not to minimize the deaths of those who died from this strand of flu. All of us need to be vigilant and careful; but not for one minute did I believe this was going to be a global disaster. I'm not the brightest bulb in the box but discernment and common sense need to abound.

POPSMedscape_HCP Comment_ video_NB<http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/578872> ID specialist (Johns Hopkins) discusses vaccine for HCPs Benefits: *Prevention- vaccine needed to combat rise in zoster infections due to lack of natural exposure in children (via early vaccination) *Management- vaccine manages additional disease in zoster patients (reducing PNP) Barriers: * Efficacy- declines with age- yet zoster incidence rises with age (30% of pop. expected to contract within lifetime) *Logistical- vaccine must be thawed 30 minutes prior to admin. *Channel not tailored to meet the needs of at-risk population (Medicare= older, lower income); Part 'D' not Part 'B' = difficult to obtain/expense

POPSMedscape_HCPto HCP video_nb Infectious disease authority (Johns Hopkins) outlines zostavax risks/benefits for HCPs. Specific benefits: *Prevention- vaccine needed to combat future higher incidence in older adults due to decline in natural varicella exposure (via childhood vaccination *Management- prevention of future disease by those already inflicted by zoster virus(i.e. reduction in PNP) Barriers: *Logistical/dispense- vaccine must be thawed 30 minutes to injection *Efficacy rate declines with age (while conversely prevelence of disease increases with age)- but those of higher age still benefit from lowered risk of PNP *Channel not conducive to greatest at-risk population (Medicare= older, lower income); Part 'B' instead of part D.

POPSWhat the Inventor of the Flu Shot NOW Thinks of the Vaccine... What Can You Learn From History? The last time we trusted industry and their appointed government lackeys about the swine flu vaccine, the vaccine ended up killing 300 times more people than the flu itself! It was 1976, and an outbreak of swine flu supposedly threatened the lives of millions. But instead of the flu killing millions of people, it claimed ONE life, whereas the vaccine turned out to contain the real danger. Twenty five people died from severe pulmonary complications after receiving the swine flu vaccine, and about 500 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome were reported after vaccination. Some 300 claims were later filed by families of Guillain-Barre Syndrome victims who died from the disease.

POPSBarbara Ehrenreich: The Swine Flu Vaccine Screw-up More: According to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the government was misled by these companies, which failed to report manufacturing delays as they arose. Her department, she says, was "relying on the manufacturers to give us their numbers, and as soon as we got numbers we put them out to the public. It does appear now that those numbers were overly rosy." If, in fact, there's a political parable here, it's about Big Government's sweetly trusting reliance on Big Business to safeguard the public health: Let the private insurance companies manage health financing; let profit-making hospital chains deliver health care; let Big Pharma provide safe and affordable medications. As it happens, though, all these entities have a priority that regularly overrides the public's health, and that is, of course, profit…
