Russia receives unexpected rebuke from SCO
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  8-28-2008
SCO-Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Moscow also seems to be growing desperate in its search for diplomatic support. On August 28, Belarus, a pariah state that has close relations with Russia, indicated that it would soon follow Moscow in recognizing Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

UK Security Breach: New Batch Of Terror Files Left On Train
merrie
by merrie  6-14-2008
It wants Iran to criminalise the financing of terrorism and stop illicit money being diverted to its nuclear programme. The watchdog says this is a significant vulnerability within the international financial system. It is negotiating with countries such as China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Burma and the Comoros on their anti-terrorism policies. In 2000, an MI6 officer left a laptop in a taxi after a night drinking in a bar. Another was snatched when an MI5 officer put it down while buying a ticket at a Tube station. A Royal Navy laptop was stolen in Manchester in 2006, and an Army laptop containing data on 500 people was stolen from a recruiting office in Edinburgh in 2005.

Bush/Cheney Pot calling the Kettle black!
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  5-29-2008    1
The Bush/Cheney Neocons would have loved patterning the USA after the repressive government of Uzbekistan but thanks to our constitution (a bit tattered from the last 8 years) for not allowing them this fantasy. With all their criminal efforts they have rendered America as the Pot and Uzbekistan the Kettle. The charred blackness which is on the Pot; doesn't see the black on himself and calls the kettle black! Excerpted From Article: But this is Uzbekistan, a repressive country where laws mean little, rights are relative and torture is endemic... After criticism from Wash., Uzbekistan ejected the U S from a military base that was supplying the war effort in Afghanistan. How much influence should the US try to exercise — if any at all — over another country’s behavior? And will that country be receptive, given the abuse, indefinite detentions and closed tribunals that have been part of the United States’ record in recent years?

A Drought in Australia, a Global Shortage of Rice
papananook
by papananook  4-19-2008
The drought’s effect on rice has produced the greatest impact on the rest of the world, so far. It is one factor contributing to skyrocketing prices, and many scientists believe it is among the earliest signs that a warming planet is starting to affect food production. It is difficult to definitely link short-term changes in weather to long-term climate change, but the unusually severe drought is consistent with what climatologists predict will be a problem of increasing frequency.

Wheat Killer Detected In Iran
merrie
by merrie  3-21-2008
Nov. 28, 2007) — Scientists are counting on a "southern strategy" to protect the entire United States from Ug99, a strain of wheat stem rust disease that has spread from Africa to the Arabian Peninsula. The fungal strain was named for its discovery in Uganda in 1999. Heading Off World Wheat Threat Ug99 has overcome most of the stem rust resistance genes bred into wheat varieties during the past several decades. Last year, ARS Cereal Disease Laboratory (CDL) plant pathologist Yue Jin confirmed a new, even more virulent variant of Ug99 in Kenya. His colleague, geneticist Les Szabo, also at the CDL in St. Paul, Minn., leads the stem rust genome project. The CDL is the nation's primary facility for identifying various forms of stem rust and other cereal rusts, such as wheat leaf rust and oat crown rust. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/071126151723.htm

"Zionism is Bankrupt" Richist Zionist from USSR

"Lev Avnerovich Leviev (born in Tashkent, Soviet Union) is a Chabad Orthodox Bukharian Jewish billionaire who lives in London. Leviev is ranked 210th among the world’s wealthiest people, with an estimated personal net worth of $6.5 billion, although his associates put the figure closer to $8 billion. Lev Leviev was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1956. His parents, Avner and Chana Leviev, were prominent members of the Bukharian Jewish community. In 1971, when he was fifteen, his family immigrated from Uzbekistan to Israel. Shortly afterwards, Leviev began to work as an apprentice in a diamond polishing plant, learning the 11 steps of the diamond cutting process. After serving in the IDF, he established his own diamond polishing plant. ...Wikipedia. Blood diamonds? No evidence of any persecution in USSR. Myth too?

The Bush government wanted to change all that." But, confronted with Taliban's refusal to accept US conditions, "this rationale of energy security changed into a military one", the authors claim. "At one moment during the negotiations, the US representatives told the Taliban, 'either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold, or we bury you under a carpet of bombs,'" Brisard said in an interview in Paris. 27 December 2002: Afghanistan Pipeline Deal signed An agreement has been signed in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat, paving the way for construction of a gas pipeline from the Central Asian republic through Afghanistan to Pakistan. The building of the trans-Afghanistan pipeline has been under discussion for some years but plans have been held up by Afghanistan's unstable political situation.
