POPSAl-Qaida chief behind USS Cole attack killed... I've been out-of-pocket for a few days and what great news to find when I return. How long has it taken us to find this guy??? Those poor victims of that attack were not even honored by the presence of the then President who seemed to pretend that terrorist attacks where just isolated incidents. Thank you...whoever you were who got the job done.

POPSMy Country, Tis Of Thee, Sweet Land Of Liberty Long before the Hamdan trial, we already knew that we were offered bin Laden in transit from Sudan to Afghanistan. But we did not want him. Our lawyers had no battle, our leaders no mettle. Most of us, though not all, have learned nothing. After thousands smote and seven years of war, we are back to our superior ways, demanding Habeas Corpus and noting in the very first trial that bin Laden’s deputy was read no Miranda rights upon his capture - or was it arrest? They say history repeats itself. Never before has it applied so swiftly, within the same generation and within the same conflict. A selfish society incapable of sacrifice is equally incapable of self-defense. Our greatest concern is not the pursuit of madmen or the states which feed them. It is not even the cost of oil and its affect on our economy and future.

POPSKerry: On September 11, 2001 We Were At Peace May 30, 2008 UPDATE: Responding to Kerry's claim, RNC spokesman Danny Diaz said: "It’s absolutely critical that the next Commander in Chief understands the challenges America faces. Yet it’s clear that Barack Obama has a thin understanding of history and fails to grasp the threat of terrorism." "After a week’s worth of examples demonstrating Obama’s lack of preparedness to serve as president, his campaign is understandably desperate to shift the focus. Considering it’s now been 873 days since Obama visited Iraq, any suggestion that he even understands what’s happening on the ground is laughable."

POPSUS Sends Warships to Middle East Region Watch out for a "Gulf of Tonkin" incident. They are looking for a way to engage Syria or Lebanon. Recall Israel and the neocons threatening both during the bombing of Lebanon over a year ago. Israel is the singular cause of all middle east conflict and US involvement in that region, period!

POPSUS Describes Confrontation With Iranian Boats I believe that this was designed to raise the level of instability in the region; perhaps to dissuade the President from going to the region. Personally, I wish he wasn't going. There is nothing to be gained; especially not within the Palestinian/Israeli *peace plan*. Frankly it was a little reminiscent of the USS Cole incident.

POPS Bill Clinton's Clemency For Puerto Rican Terrorists Why let these thugs out of prison after we had seen the first World Trade Center bombing, the U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa, and the bombing of the USS Cole under Bill Clinton's watch? He said at the time that the 16 in question were not actually involved in killing anyone. Yet they were all convicted on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, bomb-making and sedition, as well as firearms and explosives violations. In fact a federal prosecutor was quoted back in November of 1999 as saying that the 16 FALN members were busted by the FBI while making bombs and planning to blow up military offices and rob a Chicago Transit Authority fare collector. Clinton also defended his actions by noting that to accept clemency, each terrorist had to sign a form denouncing terrorism and violence.

POPS Justice Usurped Also in the files was an editorial of March 31, 2000, that appeared in the Forward. Headlined "Toasting a Tyrant," it appeared on the eve of a "festive" lunch at the Waldorf-Astoria hosted by the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation honoring the strongman who had ruled Yemen since 1990, Ali Abdullah Saleh. Americans may debate whether Mr. al-Badawi deserves to get a criminal trial in a New York courtroom or to rot at Guantanamo Bay until the end of the war. But it seems clear that a man America has charged with killing 17 American sailors should meet justice at the hands of America, rather than at the hands of the Yemeni interior ministry. The Yemeni government might or might not be more lenient than America. American justice is not perfect. But neither is it likely that, once in the grasp of America,a person accused of killing 17 American sailors would be left to receive well-wishers in his home after pledging loyalty to a dictator.

POPS USS Cole :: Convicted Bomber Freed In Yemen The main suspected mastermind of the attack, Abdul-Raheem al-Nashri, was tried in absentia and sentenced to death. He is reportedly in the custody of US authorities. Most of the jail- breakers were killed during police manhunt operations or surrendered to authorities. Yemen has aligned itself with the United States in the "war on terrorism" since the September 11, 2001 attack on the US and has rounded up hundreds of suspected al-Qaeda members and put them on trial.
