POPS"Vetters" Search For Obama Veep Jones, a Vietnam vet born in Kansas City, MO (swing state alert!), was a career military officer rising to one of the highest posts possible. Being the least known potential veep, it shouldn't be surprising that the vetters have to spend more time on him in their various conversations on the Hill. But the fact that he's being, um, added to the very long short list, is an interesting development. Besides Jones, the other names on the list bandied about with congressional Dems include (and not in any order): Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, Evan Bayh, Kathleen Sebelius, Ted Strickland, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Jim Webb, Bill Nelson, Jack Reed, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Tom Daschle, and Sam Nunn. You'll notice a few names NOT on this list (that's not my exclusion -- hint hint). Besides Jones, I'm told the two other names that invited extended discussion were Biden and Strickland. Take this chatter for what it is -- chatter.

POPSWAR is a racket. This is a free book, and one of the best ever written. Please take the time to at least look at it.

POPSmy kind of terrain It makes you wonder who side to reporters on? obviously getting the big scoop is more important to them than life itself.

POPSWar is a racket OK, the text (the actual text, not this clip) is somewhat longer than is usual on clipmarks, but it's worth it.

POPSVirginia Tech: just get over it. I can't stand hearing more about the Virginia Tech. Not because it upsets me, but because it seems so two-faced. People are asking "how could this happen?" Easy: allow nutters easy access to weapons as is currently the case. If the bloke had has to make do with a knife or an axe, then we on the other side of the world would not be hearing about it. Of course, if this massacre had taken place in Iraq at the hands of a USMC squad, it would have made the news because non-American lives don't matter. More than 30 americans are killed every day either by guns or cars. No one is upset if 30 people die in clumps of 1-3. So, stop asking "why" and "how" - it is easy - psychos kill, and when they get their hands on weapons that can kill large clumps of people, they do. Perhaps the deaths are just collateral damage for a ridiculous policy of allowing the public to arm themselves with weapons that should only be held by those in the armed forces?

POPSLetter from Iraq And we aren't going to pull out our troops until the Iraqi Army is prepared to take over the fighting?

POPSNathan Kissoff dead in Iraq Each one is a tragedy, even an apocalypse, in someone(s)'s universe. I never met Nate, but I can imagine being a paddler, stationed in Bagdad, wondering how I might get to ply the Tigris waters. I wonder what has become of Nick Kimmett, another U.S. Team paddler who went East for fortune (and glory?).
