POPS"Missing" Nukes? Two years ago, six nuclear armed weapons were attached to the wings of a B-52 bomber and flown from North Dakota to Barksdale, the USAF staging base for Middle East operations. This took place in contradiction to all laws and all military procedures. Military experts could not recall a single incident of this kind ever taking place. Two years later, the event has still not been credibly unexplained. And of the six that were put on the plane in North Dakota, only five have been fully accounted for. Some folks have short memories. BrasscheckTV doesn't.

POPSWar is not a video game During this, one of the bloodiest months in the Afghanistan war, the spots promote a somewhat comforting, if disturbingly misleading, message — and it is aimed not just at potential soldiers, but also at the public at large. For the former, the goal is reassurance. As Bush-era attempts to conflate bellicosity and patriotism were undermined by persistent body bags, military recruitment has become more challenging. In response, the Pentagon hopes to make prospective volunteers believe their tours of duty will be as safe as a night on the couch.

POPSUSAF Seeking "Core Algorithms" of Human Thought "I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you."

POPSUSAF Thunderbirds read for air-show duty Even before I had a sense of politics, the precision of air formations thrilled me. Just some neat photos. Yesterday we had the death of one of the original 'top guns' who went on to serve as a very distinguished member of our State's government. I wonder if the caliber of those men are long gone.

POPSUSAF Staff Sergeant Zachary Rhyner - Someone You Should Know Combat controllers train for two years at Pope and elsewhere to do mostly covert missions in hostile territory. The “battlefield airmen” can parachute or infiltrate into enemy territory to set up drop zones, do air-traffic control or call in aircraft to shoot or drop bombs on the enemy. They often work on an Army Special Forces or Navy SEAL team and fight alongside soldiers and sailors while summoning Air Force firepower from overhead. The aircraft often are firing near “friendly” forces on the ground. Rhyner is credited with saving his team from being overrun twice in a 6-hour battle in the Shok Valley. Members of A-Team 3336 from Fort Bragg’s 3rd Special Forces Group received 10 Silver Stars, the Army’s third highest award for combat valor, for their actions in that engagement....

POPSWhy Sully May Be The Last Of His Kind
with 150 passengers and four other crew members onboard. For the first time that day, the captain took control of the plane. “My aircraft,” Sully said. “Your aircraft,” said the first officer. Pilots have rules even for falling, and Sully set about following them. He lowered the nose so the plane would glide, not drop quickly. He ordered the first officer to start into a three-page checklist of procedures for restarting both engines, even though he must have known that was hopeless. He radioed the controller to report the bird strike. “Ah, this is Cactus 1549, hit birds, we lost thrust in both engines. We’re turning back toward La Guardia.” The controller ordered the La Guardia tower to stop all departures. “It’s 1549. Bird strike. He lost the thrust in the engines. He’s returning immediately.” It was 3:28. Pilots are taught that if you need to ditch, you should land at the nearest practical airport. But Sully didn’t have time for that. POPSU.S. Marines in Kabul Mark Corps' 233rd Birthday
U.S. MARINES ~ THE FEW ~ THE PROUD ~ Semper Fi ~ “America needs you now more than ever. You have done your country proud and we are proud of you.” The Marines closed their festivities with the traditional cutting of the cake and presentation to the oldest and youngest Marines in attendance. 2004 Marine Corps Birthday Message from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Happy 229th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Marines have built a legacy of warfighting excellence that has endured throughout our Nation's history — a history that continues to be written every day around the globe. The word "Marine" continues to inspire fear in our enemies, hope for those in need, and trust on the part of our allies. On behalf of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I salute the efforts of the proud Marines serving today and those who served before. Semper Fidelis. Gen. Richard B. Myers, Gen. POPSMissing Launch Devices at Minot AFB The number of odd circumstances at Minot Air Force Base which was the center of attention after the discovery of mis-shipped nuclear weapons without proper authorization is real interesting. This is about the 5th news report, which follows up on some of the previous oddities. The Air Force also announced Thursday that three ballistic missile crew members from the Minot Air Force Base who fell asleep while holding classified launch code devices have been sanctioned and "decertified from missile operations." POPSA USAF Captain’s Observation Of Obama’s Visit To Afghanistan So really he was just here to make a showing for the Americans back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States . I just don’t understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-in-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country. If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake. In service, CPT J Bagram, Afghanistan

POPSObama's Military Adviser - Worst Chief of Staff Ever?
I was a young LT, a wrench-turner, assigned to the 351st Strategic Missile Wing when McPeak was Chief of Staff. In addition to his most notable legacy --the infamous uniform changes that were immediately repealed when he retired-- McPeak was the man who dissolved Strategic Air Command. We were reassigned to 8th Air Force under his new Air Combat Command, and with the abolishment of SAC went many of the long standing regulations that guided the control and transport of nuclear weapons. It was only a matter of time before the Air Force suffered an embarassing nuclear incident. McPeak's name is still a dirty word in many military circles. He was a deeply unpopular Chief of Staff (October 1990 - October 1994) --though he was, by all accounts, a phenomenal fighter pilot and a real hero of the Vietnam War. The Gates purge was very new-war, very 21st century. McPeak's changes, though originally configured for the Cold War, never really had a place in any century.
