U.N. on Israeli War Crimes
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  11-5-2009    5
The Goldstone Report now has been approved overwhelmingly by the UN General Assembly. The report calls for Israel to investigate it's war crime accusations...and for the Palestinians to investiage theirs -- and says the slow starvation of over a million and half people in the Gaza Strip should stop. Now, it seems it goes to the Security Council. Which means, if things go as usual, the USA will veto it and it will end there. The USA has does similar actions at the UN for decades, protecting Israel, no matter what. The USA House of Congress has even gone on record, this week, opposing this war crimes report. Israel yesterday seized a ship with weapons and said they come from Iran and this was a war crime...also pointing out that Russia, the USA, China, etc. are all guility of war crimes. The conclusion appears to be that war is a war crime. Everybody's guilty. And let's just forget it. ...um, except when talking about the Nazi's of WWII or the Bosnian Serbs curre

Top 50 USA War Criminals
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-22-2009    12
This is a pretty good list. If you don't know, btw, the idea comes from the USA having a Top 50 (Top 52) list of Iraqi alleged war criminals and putting their faces on a deck of cards (like this article does). Of course, these are just accusations. They should be arrested first, held in secret prisons for a few years, tortured and then maybe...maybe we have a trial for a few of them. That would be Bush League Justice (i.e., injustice). Maybe a few on the list are innocent or dupes...but we should let that get in the way. I note the clip calls not only for activist, U.S. appropriate officials but also for foreign courts and the International Criminal Court to get involved. That would be a good thing to lobby for, esp. for those who live outside the country, could put lobby effort there...because you can't expect a guilty nation to hold guilty people as accountable as they should...it's sort of like expecting a fox to guard the hen house.

CIA used mercenaries for assassination program
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-20-2009
It's practically a full-time job keeping up with the war lies, war crimes and war ugliness, more revealed everyday. Assassination, btw, is officially against current USA law --- but the CIA, with the encouragement of Bush and Cheney, just decided to ignore this law --- and others laws as well: from torture to protection of civil rights: they felt, apparently, the law did not apply to them. That's always very dangerous, a dark road to fascism. Just 'restoring adherence to the law," by President Obama, has already made things better....better if you believe in human decency. Bounty hunting is not new, btw. The British, the Spanish, the Mexicans and the Americans all gave bounty for Indian scalps. Fascist also can 'hire,' folks from prison for a cartoon of cigarettes and TV privileges to ax murder people, - and, like murder for scalps, it's done. So we can't let warmongering Republicans, neo-cons, racist and right-wing nut jobs back in power. Defeat them remains hig

U.N. Asks for Investigation of U.S. Mercenaries
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-4-2009
The use of so-called "private security contractors," -- i.e. mercenaries by the USA for extraordinary rendition (and torture) is now a U.N. issue. Such private armies, btw, are a real and very dnagerous sign of growing fascism. The founder of Blackwater, one of the largest, has just been implicated in court of murder, murder of some folks who were going to expose some of Blackwater's war crimes. Blackwater, btw, was forbidden to be in Iraq anymore...so they changed their name and now do their thing in Afghanistan. It's all sick and ugly. If you count the mercenaries the USA actually has about TWICE as many forces in Iraq, 300,000 or more. Plus, since they are not "official army," it's easier for them to get away with murder...being beyond direct military or Iraqi control.

EU to press UN to recognize a Palestinian State!?
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  7-13-2009    2
This is some exciting news and new twist in the ongoing Israel-Palestine war and the often nothing more but "Pretenses for Peace." But the slow starvation of over a million and a half people in front of our eyes, in the Gaza Strip blockade by Israel for the last two years does seem to have stirred up determined and brave resistence, including the direct action blockade busting and involvement of EU, North American and South American politicians. Now this dramatic idea has been introduced by the EU Foreign Minister. Right now the only news coverage I've found starts with pro-Zionist negative opinion of this idea...(although the idea is the central story). Will this be for real? I guess time will tell but it does seem that some crimes are just too big to hide or tolerate: like murdering thousand of Taliban POW's -- secret USA death squard run by the former VP Cheney - starving a million and a half people in front of our eyes.

The ICC case that wounding, killing and robbing peacekeepers is a grave crime
chara
by chara  5-19-2009
ICC prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, contends that killing peacekeepers constitutes an attack on "the millions of civilians who those soldiers came to protect." The rebel commander's voluntary appearance in court has created a deliberate contrast to the reaction of the government officials who have been issued arrest warrants. Both the cabinet minister and Mr. Bashir have vilified the court, saying it has no jurisdiction over events in Sudan. The government denies accusations that it mobilised Arab militias to take revenge on the local population, in what the US and others have called a genocide. In the debate over the creation of the ICC, the USA fought to curb its reach. They were particularly opposed to the possibility that American soldiers might be subjected to the court's jurisdiction. Human rights groups and European leaders said they thought Washington was motivated by the fear that American policymakers, not just soldiers, would be held accountable before the court

How Embarrassing

by AtlLiberal  5-8-2009
Supposedly this was snuck in near the end of the legislative session and most senators didn't even read it (which in itself is no excuse). Nonetheless, this shows how radical fringe groups can infiltrate government. And I'm really wondering why, even though this resolution has no power, the media has not paid more attention to something so over the top. It was mentioned on MSNBC yesterday but I've seen nothing since. What a bunch of yahoos.

Spanish Court "considers charging six former US officials"

Spanish courts can prosecute offences such as torture or war crimes even if they occurred in other countries. The former officials - who include ex-Attorney-General Alberto Gonzalez - could face arrest on leaving the US if the courts decide to issue warrants. Among those named was former defence official Douglas Feith ... BBC One way tickets to Europe for many now.

* U.N. rights envoy sees grave Israeli war crimes
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  3-21-2009
A couple of other threads appeared this week due to revelations by an Israeli soldier(s) about cold blooded murder being done in the last Israeli invasion of Gaza. This clip, though, is about a U.N. human rights envoy asking for a U.N. investigation of war crimes in this most recent invasion. I'm glad to see that the issue of starving to death over a million and a half people to death in the Gaza Strip is no longer being ignored by international authorities. Israel, though, nor the USA accept the authority of the International Criminal Court set up by the United Nations. Plus, war crimes are mainly filed against those who lost the war, not the winners. Who knows if this will lead to any justice, stop the killings, invasions, ongoing seizing of Palestinian land, collective punishment, apartheid, etc. But at least the issue is not being so ignored. At the end of the day we need to keep electing better leaders because they are the ones with the power to make war or pe

Poll: Most Want to See Bush Probes
Wisco
by Wisco  2-12-2009    1
Hold on to this one, because once an investigation starts getting put together, Republicans will claim that "Americans don't want this." Yeah, we do. In fact, the largest group wants criminal investigations and only slightly more than one third want no investigations at all. I know Obama says we have to look forward, not backward, but that doesn't mean we have to look the other way. If Bushies committed crimes -- and, at this point, only the brainwashed cultists of the right think they didn't -- then they should pay for it. No one is above the law; otherwise, the law is meaningless.

USA Military Terrorist Court Trials All Ended.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  2-6-2009
Some people are upset because this dirty, rotten, stinkin' murdering terrorist had charges against him dropped. He's been in jail for at least seven years and tortured at least twice and confessed under torture. Other people are upset that we're holding people in jail for seven years, torturing them, and they never have a trial. Why is this guy in jail for seven years and he has no trial? And...maybe, maybe he's not a dirty, rotten, stinkin' murdering terrorist. See, that's a problem: People are not guilty of crimes just because someone says so. Even if the cops says so. Even if the DA says so. Even if the military says so. It's not justice to spend seven years in jail, getting tortured, and you never had a lawyer, you never even had a formal list of charges against you, you never got to appear before a judge. After the lying, warmongering of the Bush years, It appears we have to explain in simple sentences what is right and what is wrong. On this, the economy, A t

Abbas says Israel did war crimes in Gaza
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  2-4-2009
Not much coverage of this, other articles spin off into talking about the split between the PA and Hamas, or U.S. supported Arab governments blaming Hamas, or how both sides in the war acted badly and even the headline of this clip is not very dramatic and easy to overlook. This version of the PA appears to be the puppet government favored by Israel, the USA, the EU and western supported Arab states, so this comment by Abbas doesn't go along with the script.

Obviously the Middle East bully, back by the impotent USA, have not learnt any lessons from the Second Lebanese War and the arse-kicking that Hizbollah gave the IDF. "We fired our guns and the Zionist kept a'comin. There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and they began to runnin'" back to the satellite state, beaten and shitting themselves. How quickly do the Zionist forget Kfar Giladi , and how much do they need reminding. It was not only women and children that died in Lebanon in 2006 as in Gaza today. And why? So Barak, the war criminal, might be elected PM in line with many other terrorist Zionist leader.
