POPS Secret memo shows Israel knew Settlements were illegal The argument that the settlements are illegal, stated in successive UN resolutions, and by the International Court of Justice advisory opinion condemning the separation barrier in 2004, is reinforced by such an authoritative source. It strengthens the political case in any "final status" negotiations on borders with the Palestinians for genuinely equitable land swaps of Israeli territory to a future Palestinian state if Israel is to retain settlement blocks.

POPSIran Announces Bid For UN Security Council Seat Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki announced his country's bid today for a seat on the United Nations Security Council, a candidacy that U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad immediately rejected. U.S. opposition would be based on the unwritten rule at the UN that nations under Security Council sanctions aren't elected to the panel. The council has adopted three resolutions imposing sanctions on Iran over its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment as part of its nuclear program.

POPSCiting Iraq War, Renowned Attorney Vincent Bugliosi Seeks “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Mur He is the criminal of criminals in the world. There simply does not exist in the entire world a more supreme criminal than George W. Bush and each and everyone of his goon squad - starting with Condoleezza Rice. All should remember this when weighing all other crime or alleged crime we see in the media. Criminal No. 1 in the entire world is George W. Bush. I say this especially for all those counterfeit political leaders who huff and puff and blow a gasket over some human rights abuse or anti-democracy accusation, yet on the subject of George Bush's criminality, not only are they silent, but going even a step further, are accommodating. I simply don't want to hear anyone's sob story unless they are ready to acknowledge the extent of criminality of George W. Bush.

POPS'Bush Lied'? If Only it Were That Simple What I have objected to all along is that there was something sinister and self-promoting about the move into Iraq by this Administration. And not mentioned are the UN Resolutions which Iraq failed to comply. The world is repeating the process with Iran.

POPSLeaked Saudi View. 'Border dispute' Existing UN Resolutions Solution Prince Saud al-Faisal has been the discreet voice of Saudi Arabian diplomacy for more than 30 years, and he spoke with unchallenged authority at the recent meeting of the Quartet of Middle East peacemakers, giving what turned out to be a bleak assessment of the current negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The situation was "dire", he told the assembled dignitaries, including Condoleezza Rice, Tony Blair and Ban Ki-moon. "Many dangers loom. It seems we have reached a stage that I can only describe as a morass." Such pessimism is not big news, though Saud's gloomy remarks were made, characteristically, behind closed doors at London's Lancaster House. It is certainly hard to find anyone who harbours much hope that there is a way out of the current impasse. ... Guardian

POPSThe Fake Allies Russia cannot give Israel much aid, but can supply advanced weapons much cheaper than America, and provide excellent support in the UN. Russia’s military credibility among Arabs is much higher than America’s; Arabs don’t hesitate terrorizing the American pawn, but would shrink from attacking Russia’s client state. There is also France, boiling with imperial ambitions but unable to vie the Arab states away from America. Through an alliance with France, Israel can extract diplomatic support and considerable aid from the EU. And there are China and India. America "loves" Israel, but is the feeling mutual, I wonder?

POPSUN Imposes New Sanctions on Iran--Increases Conflict As Ron Paul warns UN sanctions are a pathway to wars, and always the new justifications for them, as was the case with Iraq. The UN is not "moderate", or a world savior, it is an arbitrary usurping world governing body stacked with the "powers that be" moving all toward world conformity by either incentive or force. Since the UN was formed, after the WWI League of Nations failed, wars and global conflicts have increased, not decreased. The UN is nothing less than a global "gang" teaming up to suppress and usurp all sovereign rule under the pretense of "democracy" and "world peace", and its tenants are entirely supported by the Bush family and neocons, while their tactics may differ. To suggest that only "UN approved" nations can have nuclear power, even weapons, makes clear their goal of global dominance, as if their ideological dictatorial rule is not tyrannical in nature.

POPSIsrael/Palestine: Man’s inhumanity to man has no moral compass when it comes to making Palestinian lives as miserable as possible. As an entity it knows no shame. All its crimes are hidden under cover of the magic word “security.” Gideon Levy, a journalist with the Israeli daily Haaretz appears to understand this. In a recent opinion piece he writes: “Here, we have the yardstick for security success: the number of Palestinians killed. "

POPSBlue Monday? I'm inclined to agree with what the internet trends indicate. I know for me that the time period from mid-November on through the end of the year is always the most depressing time of the year for me. Damn holidays. As for the things Dr. Arnall points out in his formula, I don't let them get to me much. Sure here in Michigan the weather in January can get nasty, but on the flip side I'm too in awe of nature to view extreme weather conditions as entirely bad. Failed New Year's resolutions? The last New Year's resolution I made was about ten years ago when I resolved to never make another New Year's resolution. That's the only resolution I've ever kept. And as for the debt from holiday spending, an old friend of mine once said "If you're not in debt, you're un-American." There's a sad truth to that... and because of that truth, debt doesn't bother me anymore. The only debts that bother me are the debts owed to me ;-).

POPS UN Extends US - Led Force In Iraq For One Year In Baghdad, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told reporters Tuesday that ''there has been a great deal of progress'' thanks to the joint efforts of Iraqis and the multinational force.'' ''These gains are really very significant. We see them in the streets of Baghdad in many provinces. This needs to be pressed on,'' said Zebari, according to a transcript provided by the U.S. State Department in Washington. The Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, reported Tuesday that international donors since 2003 have pledged about $16.4 billion to rebuild Iraq, according to figures current as of October. Two-thirds of that, however, was pledged in the form of loans, it said. The biggest loans were $3.4 billion from Japan; $3 billion from the World Bank; up to $2.55 billion from the International Monetary Fund; and $1 billion from Iran.

POPS United Nations Gallery Of Despots And Dictators Why are we funding the U.N.'s "human rights" nonsense? When President Bush told the United Nations General Assembly this week "the American people are disappointed by the failures of the Human Rights Council," his words could not have been more timely or deserved. He pointed out "This body has been silent on repression by regimes from Havana to Caracas to Pyongyang and Tehran - while focusing its criticism excessively on Israel." On Friday, the Council piled the dung heap higher. It wrapped up another session in Geneva by adopting two more resolutions against Israel and no resolutions critical of the human-rights record of any of the other 191 U.N. member states.

POPSIran guards reject US terror list European Commission spokesman Jens Mester told AFP news agency that the EU usually added organisations to its list of banned terrorist groups only after a UN decision. The EU made such decisions independently of the US, he stressed. That's a relief.

POPSWhy We Went to War in Iraq I had become addicted to politics during the Clinton years, but it was during the 2000 election (like most every American) that I began to be tuned in like never before. I remember the President's speech before the UN and this is how I remember the events. It *was* about weapons inspectors/inspections, the ignoring of the UN's resolutions, and regime change. I believed the President was attempting to put some teeth back into the operation of the UN with the commitment to see that it's resolutions, by anyone, were no longer disregarded. Alas, it was much more corrupted than most of us thought and seems beyond redemption. It needs to go the way of the League of Nations.

POPSBrits, S. Africans boycott Israel Note that the call is not for the destruction of Israel, but to bump Israel into complying with UN resolutions it (and the USA) have long resisted (ie, for Israel to abide by international law).

POPSInside Africa's Guantánamo A huge campaign must be launched to press western governments to end this slaughter, which is almost entirely the work of those in control of the country. I must admit, I don't completely understand what's going on in this war. There's so much war everywhere these days, it's hard to keep track. .:(

POPSIsrael & Palestin - Some Statistics These statistics include only Palestinian cases - no Lebanese killings and casualties. Maybe the numbers, statistics and values are also "hateful" and "antisemitic", eh?
