POPS How to get a Google Wave Invite Invites are being given out in small batches- if someone says they have 1,000 invites, beware! Tips & Warnings * If you get an invitation and go to sign up, and are presented with anything that tries to sell you something, back away as it's probably a scam. * Be careful! As with any big thing, spammers and scammers are trying to take advantage. If in your quest for Google Wave you're asked to scan for viruses or provide financial information, turn around- you're being scammed. 6 Search eBay for an invitation. A few Google Wave invite owners are selling on the site. You can bid, but beware eBay is deleting some of these listings because selling a Google Wave invite is like selling someone else's intellectual property.

POPSCMOs are Choosing to Activate Social Media via In-house Resources I'm surprised, but pleasantly surprised that over 65% of surveyed CMOs are choosing to go in-house for their social media work. It's the right choice for several reasons and there are a few money quotes below. Social Media should be managed in-house because: 1. It's cheaper. You can hire a "Community Manager" for half of what it would take for an agency to manage the business. 2. It's faster. If you have someone in-house who is intimately involved in the brand and the company, you will be able to react to opportunities and challenges faster. 3. It's all about the content. Agencies are probably more skilled on the technical side, but let's face it - pretty much anyone can figure out how to use Twitter, Facebook, Flickr or blogs these days. But not everyone can get the content right. And if you need some Tech help, outsource it for a couple days or learn it! (Found this piece via @daveknox )

POPSTell President Obama to Cut Off ACORN Now! Petition long-term care and insurance premiums. Men and Women in Uniform We must support the men and women who protect our nation. That means giving them the tools and equipment they need, as well as the benefits and moral support they have earned. I support tax benefits to help ease the financial burdens our citizen-warriors and their families face and updated, improved GI Bill education benefits. And we must also support our first responders, who put their lives on the line to protect us in our homes, businesses, and communities. I was proud to have the MN Police and Peace Officers Association endorse my TRACK Sex Offenders Act, which gives law enforcement and officers the tools they need to keep us safe from sexual predators.

POPSWill search become redundant?
First answer: Wrong (imho) - you need search when you want to be able to stay up to date, rather than relying on outdated resources or single sources of information with vested interests. If you did know where to find eveything? Well, that would be called being omnipotent, and, as a God you probably wouldn't waste time on the internet. Social networks - yes, but which one will you look on? Or will you go through them one by one? Why do market comparison sites work again? Ah yes, convenience. Almost all the other examples are trivially answered with - no, no I wouldn't. I would use my search engine du jour (currently Google) and it would tend to put the same answers as the slow manual way suggested here near the top, but also give me alternative perspectives. Now, I am not saying we should rely on Google (or any other search engine), and I do make use of crowd-sourced search via the lovely people I know and follow on Twitter. But this article seems, to me, to lack under

POPSConnectivism, and navigating the learning landscape Joe posted this video, and it reminded me of a piece I had written at brains.parslow.net about the learning landscape and ways to help you navigate it. The teacher becomes the guide, who educates you how to educate yourself - how to access and assess learning resources, and gives guidance on the route you should take to get to your learning goals.

POPSsmARThistory For years we have been dissatisfied with the large expensive art history textbook. We found that they were difficult for many students, contained too many images, and just were not particularly engaging. In addition, we had found the web resources developed by publishers to be woefully uncreative. We had developed quite a bit of content for our online Western art history courses and we had also created many podcasts, and a few screencasts for our smARThistory blog. So, it finally occurred to us, why not use the personal voice that we use when we teach online, along with the multimedia we had already created for our blog and for our courses, to create a more engaging "web-book" that could be used in conjunction with art history survey courses. We are also committed to joining the growing number of teachers who make their content freely available on the web.
