20 of The Best Uses of Color in Current Web Design
William Hung
by William Hung  8-14-2008
Many sites “play it safe” when choosing colors. Brilliant colors have to be carefully controlled to avoid looking amateur. I’ve selected these 20 sites for excellent use of color along with their overall web design. Quality of CSS, features, ease of use all come into play as well.

Singer and Songwriter Legend Isaac Hayes Died Today
merrie
by merrie  8-10-2008
He appeared in episodes of The A-Team and Miami Vice, though his acting wasn't limited to the small screen. Hayes also had roles in films such as Shaft (1971), Escape from New York (1981), I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995). In a tragic twist of fate, Hayes most recently filmed a small role playing himself in the upcoming movie Soul Man, starring Bernie Mac, who died yesterday at the age of 50 from pneumonia. Hayes is survived by his wife, 12 children and 16 grandchildren. Isaac Hayes Bio http://www.isaachayes.com/bio/bio-2.html

Global Warming Consensus Rejected By Scientists
merrie
by merrie  8-2-2008
the world continues to cool. That is leading to increasing scepticism that the call to sacrifice living standards in order to "save the planet" is just political spin designed to persuade the public to accept green taxes." Syun-Ichi Akasofu "There are so many times the Earth was warmer than now, or colder than now. We are not affecting the climate change." Lord Nigel Lawson The consensus is breaking down because no matter how much the global warming agenda-setters may want us to be, people are not sheep, to be led around and told what to think and what to say. You can only lie to us for so long before the truth exposes your movement for what it is; a dogma based on faulty science and ulterior motives. We've heard prediction after prediction after prediction about how the polar ice caps were absolutely inevitably going to melt away into nothingness this summer. Of course, they haven't. Not even close. You'd think that would put some humility into these Chicken Littles.

The Top 100 Movie Films
merrie
by merrie  7-26-2008
Another film list? The same old Citizen Kane? No - this one’s different Now find a film... So, you’ve scoured The Times Top 100 Films of All Time and have realised, with rising panic, that you’ve seen only five of them. You think Festen is a nasty infection of the toenail and that Deliverance is a posh pizza company. You like Duck Soup, but only in a Chinese restaurant. You’re a cinema dunce! But don’t worry, brushing up on our movie canon needn’t be hard work—after all, the films listed are pretty much guaranteed to have at least some artistic merit, and how often can you say that in the cinema these days?

"How Your Brain Can Control Time ??"
einbar
by einbar  7-26-2008    6
"Even in a healthy brain, time is elastic. Staring at an angry face for five seconds feels longer than staring at a neutral one. It may be no coincidence that the pulse-generating neurons are directly wired into regions of the brain that handle emotionally charged sights and sounds. And recent experiments by Amelia Hunt at Harvard University hint that we may actually backdate our mental time line every time we move our eyes."
