POPSAfghanistan: It's game over, time for America to go. Karzai is corrupt, has no legitimacy with the Afghan people, and he's effectively the mayor of Kabul. There is no legitimate reason for Americans to keep killing and dying & pouring money we don't have into occupying a country that: A) No-one since Alexander the Great on up through the Soviets were able to subdue B) Really, REALLY hates outsiders and will kill Americans just because they're there. It's over whether we like it or not. Time to come home.

The case of Yugoslavia is instructive because it shows how the imperialist countries, in this instance Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, used smaller client states or nations, such as the Croats, the Albanians, the Bosnian Muslims, the Bulgarians, and the Hungarians to commit genocide, even when, as with the case of Bulgarians, they would not do this within their own national borders. In most instances, civil war or genocide serve the interests of imperialist powers whose aim is to rule through a condominium of power with client states. This lesson is not lost on anyone concerned with the situation in Iraq.

POPSSilence Is Not Neutrality Obama needs to support freedom in Iran The regime has always blamed Great Britain, the United States, Bahais, Zionists, and/or Jews for every ill that befalls the country. When the leadership claims God's mantle, it is hard to accept accountability for the failure of leadership; it is far easier to find straw men to blame. Don't underestimate the Iranian people, however. The protestors are no longer supporting former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi; they are chanting "Death to the Dictator" . They are opposing the Islamic Republic. While conspiracy theories loom large in Iranian culture " indeed, Iranians poke fun at their conspiratorial nature in often-humorous ways " the Iranian people can separate the wheat from the chaff. Those inclined to believe Kayhan, the Islamic Republic News Agency, or the Fars News Agency will do so no matter what we do. Those disinclined will not swallow regime propaganda simple mindedly.

POPSCop kicks suspect in the head AFTER HE SURRENDERS In most American jurisdictions, kicking someone to the head is on the order of assault with a deadly weapon. Because a shoe-covered foot can crack a human skull easier than most people think. The guy had surrendered and was lying face-down, spread-eagled. And the officer runs up and kicks him in the head. Cenk questions as to whether or not the punishment should be as severe as losing his job. Looked to me like ADW. Lose his job? That cop belongs behind bars. Whatever that guy did before we saw him swerving his car and running from the cops did, and I'm including violent crimes with this... Whatever that guy did, as a cop you just CAN NOT run up on a guy and boot him to the head after he's surrendered like that, not when you've got a gun drawn on him.

And just a month after the president—with some fanfare—ordered the Guantanamo closing, his administration embraced the Bush administration’s position that the Bagram detainees should properly be held in what is effectively a legal no man’s land, barred from having a court hear their cases.
