POPSClipping Comments: On the Suspend Copenhagen Climate Talks Jlyn continued- If you believe in global warming and take steps to control it but are wrong, you have lost nothing. But if you don't believe and are wrong, all is lost. I much prefer to err on the side of caution. After all, the worst that is going to happen is we will wean ourselves from foreign oil.

POPSLooking at the SCIENCE behind the new mammography recommendations More: So the panel, which does not take cost into consideration when making its reports, no longer recommends regular breast screenings for this population. For women between 50 and 59, the evidence shows that a mammogram every two years preserves the benefits without increasing the harms. Though even for them, mammograms are far from a panacea. (The recommendations for prostate cancer screenings have similarly declined, as have tests for colon cancer.) Mammograms are so unreliable—as many as one in 10 gives a false positive reading— a woman is nearly guaranteed of having a false positive test in her lifetime . These lead to biopises (not a painless procedure) and sometimes radiation and chemotherapy for tumors that were so slow growing they would never have killed you anyway.

POPSFibroids in Women – Do Not Worry, Get Pregnant Naturally For a woman, it is very difficult to deal with different complications and disorders in order to get pregnant. There are different things that create hurdles on the path of a woman who wants to give birth to a baby to feel completeness. Fibroids are a great threat to the fertility system of a woman, these are the tumors develop inside and around the uterus in a female body. Although, the Fibroids are non-cancerous, but they can really affect the reproduction age in women. And, the infertility causes by Fibroids is called ‘Uterine Fibroid Infertility’.

POPSCountdown Goes To Free Clinic: 'Hard To Believe I Was In America' Eighty-three percent of the patients they see are employed, they are not accepting other government help on a large scale, not "welfare queens" as some would like to have us believe. They are tax-paying, good, upstanding citizens who are trying to make it and give their kids a better life just like you and me. Ninety percent of the patients who came through Saturday's clinic had two or more diagnoses. Eighty-two percent had a life-threatening condition such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or hypertension. They are victims of a system built with corporate profits at its center, which long ago forgot the moral imperative that should drive us to show compassion to our fellow men and women.

POPSUS Health Tech for Licensing - Interested? Our tax dollars pay for all sorts of inventions, research, etc. All of it may be licensed and sold for a profit and/or improved upon. These are healthcare related - so there is one on a different treatment for AIDS and another for a different way to isolate viruses for vaccine production. Not exactly money for nothing but one of the users reading this might be in the market - eh?

POPSThyroid cancer Thyroid cancer is cancer of the thyroid gland. This gland makes thyroid hormone and is located in the front of the neck. Tumors of the thyroid gland often appear as bumps in the neck, called nodules. In most cases, thyroid nodules are not cancerous. Those that are cancerous have the potential to spread throughout the body.

POPSThe Quandary With Mammograms: Get a Screening, or Just Skip It?
More: Some researchers estimate that as many as one-third of cancers picked up by screening would not be fatal even if left untreated. But right now, nobody knows which ones. So what are women supposed to do? …Hoping to make sense of it all, I consulted several experts. All said mammograms were still important — after all, breast cancer kills 40,000 women a year in this country — but they differed about who really needed them and how often. All agreed that research was badly needed to figure out how to tell dangerous tumors from the so-called indolent ones… Dr. Formenti said the emphasis on screening by groups like the cancer society might have misled the public into thinking that screening could prevent cancer. “It’s a giant misconception,” she said. “…I have to confess that I’m happy if the public gets offended or infuriated” by the debate…"I want taxpayers to say: ‘You have no clarity. Study it. Stop telling us you are a good girl if you get a mammogram.’ ”

POPSANTI CANCER SUPERFOODS..DO THEY REALLY WORK?
The rich, dark colors of blueberries, Brazilian acai berries, raspberries and cranberries come from phytochemicals that protect against numerous types of cancer. Most recently, researchers at the University of Florida found that the active ingredient in acai berries destroyed cancer cells when tested in cell cultures. And blueberries and muscadine grapes contain compounds that recent research shows cause cancer cells in the liver to self-destruct. In studies particularly important to women, cranberries have recently been discovered to be an important weapon in the fight against deadly ovarian cancer. Studies reported at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society found that ovarian cancer cells that were becoming resistant to platinum chemotherapy – the standard of care for ovarian cancer – became six times more sensitive when exposed to a compound in cranberries. The anti-cancer properties of all these berries are so strong that researchers have developing concentrated s

POPSBrain Tumor Survivors Shouldn't Take It Easy The mice that were able to exercise scored just as well on a memory test as normal mice did; however, the mice that did not have access to the exercise wheel did not. "It was remarkable that the irradiated, running mice were just like the normal, non-irradiated mice that didn't exercise," lead researcher and graduate student Sarah Wong-Goodrich of the Duke Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, was quoted as saying. "We were expecting some memory retention issues with a longer delay and there weren't any." The researchers believe exercise benefits the mind by improving blood flow to the hippocampus in the brain, a key area for learning and memory.

POPSJon Rappaport interviews an ex-vaccine worker "Dr Mark Randall". Q: Now, you worked in labs. Where purity was an issue. A: The public believes that these labs, these manufacturing facilities are the cleanest places in the world. That is not true. Contamination occurs all the time. You get all sorts of debris introduced into vaccines. Q: For example, the SV40 monkey virus slips into the polio vaccine. A: Well yes, that happened. But that's not what I mean. The SV40 got into the polio vaccine because the vaccine was made by using monkey kidneys. But I'm talking about something else. The actual lab conditions. The mistakes. The careless errors. SV40, which was later found in cancer tumors -- that was what I would call a structural problem. It was an accepted part of the manufacturing process. If you use monkey kidneys, you open the door to germs which you don't know are in those kidneys. Full Transcript @ source.

POPSRight, so tell me again how the "free market" is the best way to manage health-care delivery An editorial from 2007 shows how research into three promising anticancer drugs has been abandoned. The reason is that the compounds on which the drugs are based cannot be patented (melatonin, for example), which means that pharma companies are unlikely to turn a profit. Understandable, from the perspective of the pharma companies, but unconscionable, from the perspective of cancer patients.

POPSApproaching Epidemic: Brain Damage from Mobile Phone Radiation Lloyd Morgan, lead author and member of the Bioelectromagnetics Society says, “Exposure to cell phone radiation is the largest human health experiment ever undertaken, without informed consent, and has some 4 billion participants enrolled. Science has shown increased risk of brain tumors from use of cell phones, as well as increased risk of eye cancer, salivary gland tumors, testicular cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and leukemia. The public must be informed.”

POPSComputational Process Zeroes in on Top Genetic Cancer Suspects The new process focuses on missense mutations, meaning protein sequences that each possess a single tiny variation from the normal pattern. A small percentage of these genetic errors can reduce the activity of proteins that usually suppress tumors or hyperactivate proteins that make it easier for tumors to grow, thereby allowing cancer to develop and spread. But finding these genetic offenders can be difficult.

POPSCould smoking pot cut risk of head, neck cancer? Hmmm now why is this not too surprising? This is probably the reason why the Govt. doesn't want to legalize it -they are probably aware of this probability, but would rather you drink and smoke cigarettes two things they can make money from... You see POT is mother nature and you can get that for FREE!! Needs no special production in a lab - no special mixture of this and that ... Its like Herbs which falls under something their are trying to ban now -- Codex (banning of health supplements), and upcoming banning legislation on Organic Farms.. So this is no surprise and I wouldn't be shocked if it were true!

POPS'Nanobees' Zap Tumors With Real Bee Venom The nanobees can be tipped with hundreds of various cancer-killing or suppressing compounds, not just melittin. Whatever chemical is attached to the nanobees, the tiny particles are helping to solve one of the biggest problems in cancer treatment: drug delivery, says Chad Mirkin, a nanotechnology researcher at Northwestern University. "We have lots of agents that can kill cells and kill them very well," said Mirkin. "But we need a way to deliver those agents to move around the body and deliver a payload with minimal damage to healthy cells."
