POPS Charles Krauthammer :: Fox Wars only disburses more than $3 trillion every year but is extending its reach ever deeper into private industry -- finance, autos, soon health care and energy. Think twice before you run an ad on Fox. At first, there was little reaction from other media. Then on Thursday, the administration tried to make them complicit in an actual boycott of Fox. The Treasury Department made available Ken Feinberg, the executive pay czar, for interviews with the White House "pool" news organizations -- except Fox. The other networks admirably refused, saying they would not interview Feinberg unless Fox was permitted to as well. The administration backed down. This was an important defeat because there's a principle at stake here. While government can and should debate and criticize opposition voices, the current White House goes beyond that. It wants to delegitimize any significant dissent. The objective is no secret.

POPSCongressman wants all 'czars' to testify I would think that these "czars" would want the opportunity to speak before congress. It would help them build support for their goals. However, the actual number of czars in the administration is a disputed matter. McHenry requests that all of President Obama's 44 czars testify before Congress. But other reports put the number at around 30. The North Carolina Republican did not provide a list of the 44 czars he wants to testify.

Was this what the Framers intended when they created the three branches of our government with all the checks and balances? I am no lawyer, and obviously not a Constitutional one, but it strikes me there is a problem here. And it could be very embarrassing to Mr. Obama. No doubt this is why, as Byron York points out, the mainstream media has been so reluctant to cover this story, only the WaPo and CBS chiming in at this point, although they were late to the party and relatively perfunctory. Had Bush appointed thirty-one czars outside the normal Congressional approval system the MSM would have been all over it like the proverbial wet suit, declaring a coup d’etat in the making. But, as of now, the MSM has imposed omerta. It is Labor Day weekend. We shall see what happens next week. POPSJust Call Him the Green Pitchfork Czar by Andy McCarthy (I'd wager, the very top) overrode any objections. The issue here isn't process. It's that Obama picked Van Jones because Obama adheres to Jones's Alinskyite views and tactics, and is entirely comfortable with what most of the public would see as the horrifying specter of Jones managing how billions of public dollars are spent. Mr. Jones’s involvement in the 1990s with a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement prompted recent accusations by conservative critics that he associated with Communists. The group, according to a post-mortem written by some of its founders, was an anti-capitalist, antiwar organization committed to achieving “solidarity among all oppressed peoples” with “direct militant action.” Hold on there. Direct-action? The use of intimidation and extortion tactics, including law-breaking, to achieve political results? Where have we heard that before?

Van Jones would seem to be an American variant of the same phenomenon: a man who believes 9/11 was (a) blowback for the actions of the US government's war machine and (b) an inside job by the US government's war machine. POPSStick A Fork in Mr. Van Jones… [updated] Oops. Now in complete fairness to Mr. Jones, I doubt that he was a died-in-the-wool 9/11 truther back in January 2002. Instead, I suspect he saw this march as an opportunity to attack, undermine, and de-legitimize the Bush Administration, and was happy to join in. However, he did so just four months after the worst attack on American soil in 60 years, and one that was a simultaneous attack on our financial, military, and political centers. My wife and I were living in DC itself on 9/11, just 4-5 miles due north of the Pentagon and roughly the same distance from the Mall (where United 93 would have crashed into either the White House or the US Capitol). I have no sympathy for Mr. Jones at all. I support his rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, but he can’t distance himself from his choices and his timing. F. It is impossible to believe Obama did not know about Jones' radical views. Just like Obama knew about Rev. Wright's radical views, and Father Pfleger's radical views, and radical William Ayers, he knew exactly who he was asking to join his administration.
