POPSChoosing randomly? The entertainment options on offer to us are almost unlimited. Trying to make an informed choice between all possible alternatives would take too long: they're all good, so why not pick one at random? But is this a warning sign of terminal decadence? The idea that so many pleasures are available to us that we're unable to choose has a hint of the last days of Rome about it." I think that in a way it is a sign of this age of information and higher availabilities. It calls for higher levels of clarity and processing. otherwise we'll be lost in translation...

POPSPeak Oil: The end of travel as we now know it ... And then, like in the medieval age, society will split into two groups: the mobile, and the stranded. If fuel prices stay high and if governments don't step in to help, fares will jump, and people in the bottom third of average household income will rarely be able to afford to fly, if at all, says Henry Harteveldt, vice-president and principal analyst of U.S.-based Forrester Research. Harteveldt says airlines in North America are only profitable in their current form if oil costs $100 U.S. or less a barrel. Right now, it's at $124. Harteveldt says the next generation of fuel-efficient airplanes, which companies like General Electric are working on, will not be ready for five or six years. That won't be fast enough.

POPSViolence against railway workers hits record How much stress must the travellers be under to attack the workers. Not a happy environment. I probably experience as much stress in a year as they do in a week/ day/ hour. But I have an almost idyllic life style, thanks.

POPSPatch puts a stop to Montezuma's revenge While it may not solve the problem for everybody, it will certainly be a relief for many. A patch like this could be the sort of thing that can support a child's immune system and allow it to strengthen after it has been weakened by starvation, and diseases such as this. Giving food the chance to be absorbed and rebuild, rather than being ejected undigested, with enough water to cause critical dehydration.

POPSChertoff Wants to Israelize US Airport Security Big Brother expansion while he signs an agreement with Israel (can he do that?) to "share technologies". Chertoff holds dual citizenship and is part of the neocon-Israeli fifth column revolutionizing America into a police state. I wonder how much the Israeli companies will profit from this "sharing". By the way, what threat of terrorism? The probabilities are microscopic in comparison to crime or traffic accidents, yet we bow to the most extreme and expensive measures, none of which would stop a real suicidal terrorist? Everyone is treated as suspicious, and we call it "freedom"? But don't worry, you will be treated as well as a Palestinian in your "homeland".

POPSPractical Travel Advice: Help! My Credit Card is Lost or Stolen 5) Ask your bank for an extra client card. If the first is taken, you still have the second one to withdraw cash with If you take cash be sure that the bills are crisp and new. My experience in developing nations is that currency exchangers don't accept old, torn or folded U.S. dollars. Perhaps the same is true for the British Pound and the Euro. Exchanging at a bank is an option, but problematic on weekends and bank holidays. Chase does not replace credit or bank cards internationally.
