POPSFortresses Of Solitude And Sanctuary
Many of us have seen photographs of the Buddhist monasteries in Asia, perched precariously among the clouds. But, did you know that Greece, like Asia, has a number of similar architectural wonders? Today's San Francisco Chronicle ran the first photograph I clipped below, which I founded stunning. This particular monastery is known as Roussanou Monastery in Meteora, Greece. The word "meteora" is typically translated as "suspended in the air," a reference to the lofty sandstone pillars on which the monasteries are built. Roussanou is not the only such monastery in the region; in fact, there are 6. I clipped some additonal photos from Meteora, which I hope you will enjoy. They are, in the order presented: Agios Nikoloas Anapafsa Monastery, Agias Triados (Holy Trinity) Monastery, and the Grand Meteron Monastery. My personal favorite, however, is the last picture. Though it shows the scaffolding of repair-work, it also shows off the beautiful hues of blue I associate

POPSOmar Khayyam - Rubaiyat Found the video first and remembered the book of poetry I had many years ago. I have a natural fascination for the sufi dancers. Children dance like this all the time and whilst mainstream Islam may not have a great name the Sufis have always felt "wondrous" to me. And if you have ever tried dancing like this - I totally understand why they do it!!! It's BLISS creating on a "feeling level".

POPSGaddafi's translator 'collapsed with exhaustion' In his rant Gaddafi - who has not visited the UN since he took power in 1969 - read from a yellow folder of handwritten notes and spoke about Israel, the Taliban, swine flu and the US invasion of Grenada. He also suggested the Security Council be renamed the 'terror council' castigating it for failing to stop 65 wars since 1945. Another Arabic interpreter emphasised with the translator's exasperation. 'He’s not exactly the most lucid speaker. What drugs was this nut job Gaddafi on? He's a world class spacer.

POPSHorray! Nawal el Saadawi Returns to Egypt I haven't seen any of her books at Al Diwan Bookstore since I've returned to Egypt. She is no fan of Pres. Barack Obama. “I’m against the capitalist, patriarchal, racist system that is ruling America and Europe, and is ruling us also, but that doesn’t mean I’m a communist. I’m a critic of the communist thought as well as all religions, as nothing is holy for me, Dr el Saadawi said. Sheikh Youssef el Badri, a radical cleric in Egypt, said that a law office was considering how to pursue Dr el Saadawi legally, now that she is back. “I have to chase her legally because she transgressed God in her books and interviews ... She has insulted Islam, the religion of one-third of the world’s population. “People like her, who are attacking religion, will encourage other people to become daring on God and Islam. We are not trying to take revenge, we’re hoping to lead her back to the right path.".

POPSAre Earlobe Creases a Sign of Heart Disease? Why a connection between ELC and heart disease? Nobody knows. We continue with our checklist of heart disease signs: Retinopathy. Ring finger length. - A short ring finger in males = lower level of testosterone = higher risk of heart attack early in life. Male pattern baldness - men with frontal baldness were about 9 percent more likely to have heart disease. Those with baldness at the crown (top) of their heads were 23 to 36 percent more likely. Bad breath - Some studies claim people with lots of antibodies due to bum gums have a 50 to 100 percent greater chance of heart disease. Acne - men who had acne as teenagers had a 30 percent lower chance. Green snot - there's a connection between heart disease and green snot. Earwax - Dry earwaxers had a greater risk of arteriosclerosis than wet earwaxers. (Unconfirmed, but if you're going to worry about snot and bad breath, you might as well worry about earwax, too. )

POPSBreaking: ACORN Bombshell #4 Due From BigGovernment Tomorrow
ACORN and Obama at the Heart of the Mortgage Meltdown Starting in the nineties, a young attorney named Barack Obama began working with ACORN to promote mortgages for those who could not afford them. At the time, ACORN consisted of community agitators, who falsely accused banks of "redlining" (failing to offer mortgages to the urban poor). These groups would pack bank lobbies and harass customers in order to intimidate the institutions and force the government to lower underwriting standards. A former community agitator and ACORN attorney named Barack Obama sued Citibank in 1994, just one of hundreds of nuisance lawsuits filed by ACORN and its affiliates to loosen mortgage underwriting standards. The inevitable result is still unfolding. But this much is clear: ACORN, its attorneys and its sycophants in Congress unleashed a catastrophic meltdown on America. It used government power to to force financial institutions to underwrite completely unqualified applicants . .

POPSGreenland Glaciers Melting At Shocking Speed I just read a Danish article, that stated that the walls of a 15 square kilometer ice-melt lake have collapsed, causing billions of liters of freshwater to rush into the sea, causing the death of an untold amount of fish, due to decompression sickness, as they were forced to quickly flee to the surface of the fjord, causing their immediate death. I can't seem to find anything about this calamity in English yet, but here's a translated page about this terrible incident; http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=da&u=http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2009/09/12/141735.htm&ei=RdSsSsOeLYXt-Abb-Jy9Bg&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2009/09/12/141735.htm%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
