POPSVeteran Sgt. Pepper's 2005 Home Totally Demolished "Fortunately, once again, his family can claim victory — they survived unhurt!" Late Wednesday afternoon, a man I consider a friend who has his own remarkable story of triumph over tragedy (he, too, was severely wounded in Iraq) e-mailed me. He works for the Wounded Warrior Project has been in touch with Sgt. Pepper — no small feat, since phones have been knocked out and families are scattered. My friend managed to patch together pieces of the sergeant's story, which has been retold to me. A remarkable attitude, I thought, from someone who has already lived through so much.

POPSFlorida USA - Tornado with Lightning Incredible photo from a storm in 1991. While the rest of the South is in a severe drought, it is pouring down rain here in Florida. I wish I could send some of this water to my children in Atlanta, Georgia. (see this article on the drought in Georgia: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/22/eveningnews/main3395094.shtml?source=mostpop_story) Video and photos of the extent of the drought in north Georgia, USA.

POPSAmazing Close Up Views Of Tornados This one is for my mom. She absolutely is terrified and fascinated by tornadoes she is absolutely going to love these photos. They are just fantastic. Mother Nature will never cease to be an amazing and awe inspiring joy to watch. While I will never feel anything but sympathy for the terror and destruction that these storms leave in their path from these photos I can see the reason why my mother is glued to the TV anytime live video of these monsters comes up. Enjoy, I know my mom will ;)

POPSTornados (picture set) Having spent the first 20 years of my life in Oklahoma City, enormous wall clouds (such as the ones pictured) and tornados were common to see, especially during peak season. I can think of several times mom would throw me in the bathtub or closet on the weatherman's cue (sometimes the bathtub is the only thing left when a tornado finishes wrecking your home). The most horrendous tornado occurrences were rare. Most often, they were quick and would cause some property damage, but they go as fast as they come. I do remember a couple of scary moments (close encounters) and later going outside to find rooftops missing from houses, and baseball sized hail on the ground. Rare, but it happens.

POPSFatal Storm in Wisconsin Well, we don't get hurricanes and we don't get earthquakes but that dosn't mean we don't get our fair share of natural disasters.
