Do people waste time at work texting, being on facebook?
ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  11-9-2009
This is something that is coming up more and more for organizations that employ young adults. Policies will probably be drafted to address this specific topic. How should businesses deal with it? Tweet us a reply or share a comment below.

I think it's interesting – and a good thing – that they're shifting from the term "noncompliance" to "nonadherence". Much less emotional baggage on the term, I think.

ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  10-16-2009
I will be the first to admit that I am not that great at grammar. This sentence probably isn't correct. The rise of email, text messaging and status updates hasn't helped either. That doesn't mean it isn't important to write as correctly as possible. Check out these 11 common mistakes to help get or keep you on track with your writing.

Texting instead of sleeping
egoldstein
by egoldstein  10-5-2009    1
This is so disturbing. Social media has such wonderful potential, but seeing it used like this is depressing. Call me crazy but i would strongly consider advocating legislation that caps the number of text messages, tweets, status updates, etc. that a minor is allowed to send. God knows how many of them text while driving, putting us all at great risk. Between twitter and text messaging, society's use of social tools to stay connected 24x7 all day, every day just makes no sense to me. Seeing tweets about what people are doing, who they're with, where they're going, what they're eating, what they're watching just makes no sense to me. Who cares! Is there no joy in doing something anymore unless we can instantly tweet about it, upload a photo of it or broadcast it to our 'friends' on facebook? I think there is so much to gain from social media...so much to learn. But right now i feel like people are drunk on the idea and using it extreme ways that will look foolish in hinds

Who needs cursive writing skills?
ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  9-20-2009
My handwriting is horrible. I will admit it and if I can use the keyboard and a word processing program for any writing activity, I would willingly do that over writing by hand. Unfortunately, the technology isn't quite up to the task that would allow me NOT to write by hand. Do you feel this is an dying "art form" as the article below suggests? Will it every really go away and why is it important at all? Share your thoughts and tweets with us on this topic!

Social Media Leads to Societies Decline!
ronhuxley
by ronhuxley  9-14-2009
The title of this article is actually more interesting than the article itself...it is basically a comment that society is declining due to changes cause by text messaging and social media, like text abbreviations, increase in celebrity interest and decreases circulation in print media. These things are doubtfully going to create a social ruin. I posted this clip just to get your take on the issue. Tell us your thoughts by clicking the comment link or tweeting us a reply at http://www.twitter.com/thirstyfishinfo

more: A number who started off close to the bottom of the class ended up near the top. ''It was a massive effect,'' said Dr Alloway, who today gave a talk on working memory at the start of the British Science Festival at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Video games that involve planning and strategy, such as those from the Total War series, may also train working memory, Dr Alloway believes. ''I'm not saying they're good for your socialisation skills, but they do make you use your working memory,'' she said. ''You're keeping track of past actions and mapping the actions you're going to take.''

Get your personal lifetime phone number.
aklimento
by aklimento  8-22-2009
Open an account with Google (if you didn't so far), get gmail address and choose lifetime personal phone number. You will connect all your numbers altogether with easy management and making calls from your contact books, even abroad, from any computer or iPod touch. It's look even more promising, than Skype, which after last Apple's update simply refuse to open and aborting at each attempt to use it. Skype on iPhone doesn't work, God knows why, even thru Wi-Fi. Even their own iPhone's headphones messed up, no telling about outside Bluetooth devices. Google "pretend" to be people's servant, not ripping-off crook from side of the road.

The Rip-Off Cellphone Industry
aklimento
by aklimento  7-23-2009    3
Apple with its iPhone have shown us that that wireless industry is not about phones anymore but web communication and even web existence. When you can navigate with your phone, watch news and podcasts, read any newspaper or book right away, check current weather condition and even your own weight and overall health, stocks, bank accounts and e-mails from any domain, make pretty decent pictures and even movies, listen your favorite songs and movies on the go along with countless other unimaginable possibilities - our relations with our carriers must be honest and transparent. What's the point to cheat in digital era? To become mockery again and again? Besides off respondents in class-action suits?

LOL: Iran’s “Boycott SMS!”
merrie
by merrie  7-13-2009    1
“You don’t need 100 percent of consumers on board for a boycott to work effectively,” said the director of a major advertising firm in Tehran, who did not want to reveal his name. “Even a 20 percent drop in consumption is enough to hurt a company.” There are already signs that the boycott may be taking its toll on mobile operators. TCI shares on the Tehran Stock Exchange fell to an all-time low yesterday with a 6 percent drop over a two-week period, according to HAMNA, Iran’s mobile communication news agency. Iran Cell, the country’s largest private operator, has also sustained losses. A senior executive of this company, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Tehran Bureau that Iran Cell was losing “close to $250,000 a day” because of the drop in SMS volume. Text messaging had played a vital role in pre-election campaigning " largely conveying anti-Ahmadinejad jokes and pro-Mousavi slogans " and was used to disseminate information about grassroots effort
