The futility of ‘government control’ The terrorist watch list is becoming a joke. There are children, a retired ANG General (and commercial pilot) on the list: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/08/19/tsa.watch.list/index.html The sheer size of the list makes it a joke: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-03-10-watchlist_N.htm can there really be this many terrorists living in the US? This list has become a witch hunt reminiscent of the McCarthy era. Terrorists are the new Red Scare. If someone on the terrorist watch list is allowed to buy a gun and then kills people with it shouldn’t the US government be held responsible much like a bartender serving a drink to a drunk who then gets in his car a kills someone? They claim they want to protect us and then don’t communicate between departments. Seems pretty futile to me. POPSKabul Government To Hold Talks With Gulbuddin Hekmatyar~Leader Of Hezb-i-Islami Hekmatyar will not be offered a post but will be asked to go into exile in Saudi Arabia for three years, after which his name would be removed from the US list. Following the fall of the Taliban in 2001, he returned from exile in Iran to take up arms against his former paymasters. In April 2002 the CIA tried to kill him with an unmanned Predator drone and his organisation was branded a terrorist group. Fahim, a commander for the Northern Alliance, has been cited in reports by Human Rights Watch and other agencies for his role in massacres and criminal activities. “All the people most responsible for getting Afghanistan into the mess it’s in are coming back,” said a western diplomat.

The once occasional lapse in ethics has become common place, greed and irresponsibility by our financial institutions are being rewarded in the form of ‘bailout’ tax dollars, citizens have to watch what we say and do and how we do it, self-interest has supplanted “doing what is right for this country”, special interest groups are favored over national security and welfare, food safety has been jeopardized in favor of profit. POPSTerrorist watch list hits 1 million People put on the watch list by intelligence and law enforcement agencies can be blocked from flying, stopped at borders or subjected to other scrutiny. About 95% of the people on the list are foreigners, the FBI says, but it's a source of frequent complaints from U.S. travelers. In the past two years, 51,000 people have filed "redress" requests claiming they were wrongly included on the watch list, according to the Department of Homeland Security. In the vast majority of cases reviewed so far, it has turned out that the petitioners were not actually on the list, with most having been misidentified at airports because their names resembled others on it.

POPSJudge Rejects "State Secrets" Claim, Orders Watch Lists Open ...so that "free Americans" are not abused by Homeland Tyranny, arbitrary search and seizures when crossing borders. American citizens cannot be treated like criminals and terrorists without a "warrant, issued upon probable cause", and Dept. of HS must disclose Watch List status to those it treats otherwise. This could be a huge legal precedent to restore the norm of Constitutional restraints on government, with further applications than this.
