POPSWomen Take the Lead As long as I can remember, there’s been a world map hanging in my grandmother’s kitchen. When I called to let her know I was off to Liberia soon, she was quiet for a minute and then yelped when she found the small west African country — just about the size of Tennessee — located between Cote d’Ivorie, Guinea and Sierra Leone. POPSGlobal Warming Legislation Effect on States The preceding is a list of the 50 state-by-state breakouts of the impact the bill would have on jobs and the economy. Lieberman-Warner (S.2191) relies heavily on an unproven technology, capturing carbon and sequestering it. Even with the most generous assumptions " presuming that carbon capture and sequestration is commercially developed in 10 years " the economic costs for the average American are staggering. Under a more realistic scenario, the economic impacts in terms of losses in the job market, losses in household budgets, and higher energy prices will be drastically higher. To make matters worse, there will be inconsequential effects on the environment to show for it, if any. The Senate's leading climate-change bill, while aiming to combat global warming by reducing carbon dioxide in the air, actually poses "extraordinary perils" for Americans and the economy, according to a new study from The Heritage Foundation.

POPSStay The Heck Out Of Tenn.-This Means You Bloomberg Gun show investigations showing how criminals can aquire guns without background checks upsets gun loving state officials in Virginia and Tennessee. Bloomberg is also under fire by Virginians in a new ad released by the National Rifle Association, too. But members of the Italian-American community say they feel targeted, as well. One part of the ad goes like this: "Our New York Mayor Bloomberg came down here to take away some of your Virginia gun rights. You see, the mayor thinks you guys are responsible for our New York crime problem." The ad also depicts an apparent Big Apple "wise guy" who strongly "suggests" voters not elect gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, a gun rights activist. "I want you to do it for New York. If you know what's good for you," the ad says.
