POPSScrewed Shafted Burned Betrayed This is the (temporary) book cover for my Wall Street Tragicomedy to be published mid-to-late '09. Quite controversial from day one, it's something of a small miracle that it survived. I'll be offering free, full e-chapter downloads from the rough manuscript on my website shortly. I'd like to hear your feedback. Hopefully you love it, you may very well hate it, but I'm pretty sure you won't be on the fence, which is all I really care about. (Oh, if you've got delicate sensibilities, you should know it's not exactly PG).

POPSSocialized "HealthCare" In The Trojan Horse Stimulus Package The consequences of the bill's health provisions will be two-fold: First, it will increase subsidies for health coverage, and, second, it will give government more control over the use of a variety of technologies used by health care professionals. The subsidies, while problematic in some cases, are at least up front and obvious. The Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage (FMAP) increase, billed as "State Fiscal Relief," increases the amount the federal government pays to states for Medicaid. This is in effect a transfer payment reducing state deficits while increasing the federal one. The new Medicaid Coverage for the Unemployed program is supposedly a temporary program to cover laid-off individuals via Medicaid.

POPSIf People Paid More Attention This Wouldn't Be An Issue I can feel for the people in this story who were charged large fees for overdrafts of their accounts - but I can only feel so much. To me, this problem is mainly due to people trying to pass responsibility for themselves and their actions onto someone else. If you know you're close to being out of money in your account, you should be paying more attention to your balance - you should actually be doing this anyway. If you paid more attention, you'd know how much you had to spend, and wouldn't spend more than that. It's that simple people. Now I can understand the issue with banks forcing you into overdraft protection and not allowing you to opt out. It should be optional. But as for the fees themselves - it's an individual's responsibility to understand their accounts, know what they have available to them, and only spent what they have. Getting upset is just failing to take responsibility for your actions.

POPSBuilt-in Obsolescence in Solar Tariffs Creates Growth By removing the major obstacle to solar energy - high start-up costs - solar has grown tremendously in Spain. Phasing out this tariff gradually over time is also wise. This decreases dependence on these tariffs - which could destabilise the solar energy market

Anxiety, whether temporary or long-term, has the same beginning. Most forms of anxiety disorder are caused by a deep-seated guilt that is being dealt with improperly. On this free podcast episode, you can hear from two different people who have used the free guided meditation technique to overcome stress and anxiety. POPSHuman Rights Organization Oct 23 07 Santa Cruz City Council will be voting on expansion of the parking lot paranoia law to all public parking lots downtown. The ordinance makes it illegal to be in the lot for more then 15 minutes, 30 if your disabled -- car or not. No reading while wife shops. This law removes rights inherent to the idea of public space. You can still reach them - (831) 420-5020 e-mail: citycouncil@ci.santa-cruz.ca.us tell them to vote no on the 15 minute parking lot ordinance. We don't need new laws. Public nuisance and other such laws cover everything the police need. We shall no longer tolerate such laws targeting land owned by the very people who will get tickets, the public.
