POPSi am not against religion,i am against religious hypocrisy they went on" I tend to be critical when so-called Christian right-wing extremists try to impose their views on the rest of us-especially when their agenda can hardly be called "Christian"- like "Christians" trying to justify torture-or use religion to justify a war of aggression. Or when closted homosexual "Christians" fight against gay right- - see Ted Haggard and Larry Craig. True Christians recognize that Jesus was all about love and kindness, tolerance and forgiveness- not war, hate, torturee, or knee-jerk sanctimony. More at source- they have a good point....

POPSThe New Christianity Is Sarah Palin's Cup-o'-Tea Long but fascinating article, here's a bit more: A New Reformation? This development has not gone wholly unnoticed. Here's how an Atlantic Monthly editor portentously introduced historian Philip Jenkins' October 2002 article, "The Next Christianity": We stand at a historical turning point, the author argues -- one that is as epochal for the Christian world as the original Reformation. Around the globe Christianity is growing and mutating in ways that observers in the West tend not to see. Tumultuous conflicts within Christianity will leave a mark deeper than Islam's on the century ahead. Jenkins accurately depicted the radical nature of the ‘religious revolution' underway which, he wrote, "one might equate with the Counter-Reformation." He also pegged its goal: restoring a global Christian church "filled with spiritual power and able to exorcise the demonic forces that cause sickness and poverty."

POPSDoes God Hate Homosexuals (there is a video at this link I could not clip for some reason - very worthwhile to watch) Gayle Haggard is a hero, in my opinion, and a great example of Christian love.

POPSDisgraced pastor Haggard admits second relationship with man Decrease font Decrease font Enlarge font Enlarge font (CNN) -- Evangelical pastor Ted Haggard described Thursday as "fundamentally true" an assertion that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 20-year-old male volunteer in 2006.Haggard, 52, said the incident was "an indicator of the compulsive behavior" that ruled him at the time. However, he said he has been undergoing therapy during the two years since and "working it out." Video Watch Haggard accuser speak out »

POPSGays And Lesbians AND Bisexuals Are God's Children Too As I watched Ted Haggard and his wife on Larry King tonight I wondered why he still chooses to refer to his orientation as a "sin." I wonder why he still chooses to use the words "dark thoughts" when referring to his desires for men. Of course, I never wondered why he married since our society had ZERO support for loving gay male relationships during his generation. It's hard enough for marriage to work out with societal support much less gay partnerships without any support from society. NEWS FLASH TED, that little voice in your head with those "dark" thoughts ain't going away, and futhermore you is not goin' to hell for your grievous sin of homosexuality. What really bugs the shit out of me is that Mr. Haggard is only reinforcing homophobia by his attempts to stigmatize homosexual behavior even further by labeling it a "sin." And that TED, is the sin.

POPSA Heterosexual with "Issues?" Is that what they are calling it these days?? I wonder when our society is going to grow up :( Ted Haggard wouldn't know honesty if it bitch slapped him in the face.

POPSDisgraced pastor Haggard facing new sex allegations The church agreed to pay the man in exchange for his pledges not to talk publicly about the relationship, Boyd said, referring to a settlement reached by the man's lawyer and the church's insurance company. Under the settlement, the church provided the man money to pay his college tuition, moving expenses and counseling, Boyd said. "This was compassionate assistance. It was to help him move forward, not a settlement to keep him quiet," said Boyd, senior pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Video Watch Haggard in the HBO documentary

POPSHYPOCRISY AND THE ARGUMENT The context is as important as the argument and one should not loose sight of that. Next, who does the argument come from and what is their aim ?

POPSPraying For Palin "Perhaps there are some here who also sense that what's being lost is more than just a single election. The fact that the GOP ticket is trailing behind despite the addition of Palin clearly proves that while conservative Christians may be a formidable force in American politics, they can't elect a president by themselves. The right-wing evangelicals won in previous years because they joined a Republican coalition that also included hawkish neocons, working-class "Reagan Democrats," libertarians, and old-fashioned fiscal conservatives. And some of those groups have clearly had enough. They are departing the flock in disgust with the Republican Party, which could leave the GOP ever more dependent on the Christian right. "

POPSPray Away The Gay I'm saving my prayers to "pray the vote away" for McPalin. And I have 100 percent success rate with God answering my prayers.

POPSTed Haggard Completes “Spiritual Restoration Program” And the money quote: "New pastor Brady Boyd said Haggard was now free to live where he wanted and has returned to Colorado Springs." Wasn't he free to live anywhere he wanted before? I mean he wasn't charged with having and using of Meth or soliciting a prostitute (sorry a whore is a whore regardless of sex). Oh he meant he is de-gayed. Ooh! I see!

POPSPray Away Gay "What, if anything do you think Ted Haggard will say publicly about his experience? Certainly if the evangelical former pastor has not truly reclaimed his heterosexuality after the very strict re-programming, it would be a serious blow to the ex-gay industry if he were to come forward and say that he now realizes that his same-sex desires are neither evil or wrong and that these cures have nothing to do with getting right with God."

POPSThe 10 Biggest Religion Stories
#4 | The Pope and Latin Mass Benedict XVI relieves priests of having to get their bishop’s permission to celebrate mass in old-school Latin. To many, it is an unwelcome return of church élitism. Others sink happily back into it. #5 | The Slow-Motion Episcopal/Anglican Train Wreck The Episcopal Bishops’ meeting in New Orleans fails to stem the ongoing defection of conservatives over the church’s positions on gays, or the likelihood of a worldwide Anglican split over the same issue. #6 | Green Evangelicals Global warming, along with poverty and torture, have become hot issues to a maturing conservative Christian movement. #7 | The Roar of Atheist Books There may or may not be more atheists, but there are more atheist authors--and readers want to give them a hearing. #8 | Another Blow to a Megachurch A year after Ted Haggard resigned as pastor of Colorado’s New Life Church--having admitted to “immorality” involving a gay escort--a gunman kills two congregants in

POPSGirls who don't like MEAT So, the title is a little racy, I"m gonna see what that does for me. ;) Anyway, that is the most ridiculously suggestive pear I've ever seen! (And I've seen a lot of ridiculously suggestive pears, so I would know!) But on the other hand, this does raise a number of important questions about vegetarianism for me. First and foremost: is it really a moral decision? Or simply a solipsistic way of feeling self-important? Mind you, there are plenty of legitimate vegetarians. (Even I experimented with vegansexuality when I was in college, but it was just a phase, I swear! ;) Ted Haggard cured me!) (I also own all the Smiths albums, so that should get me off the hook, right?) But there are a lot more vegetarians out there who are really over the top, and I begin to wonder what they're trying to achieve. Why take a moral stand, but only for cute animals? Why the rhetoric? Above all else, why the evangelism and hostility towards non-vegetarians?

POPSRepublicans who like Spankings (a year of fond memories) Oh you sexy sexy conservative big boys, gay-bashing by day and lurking in mens bathrooms by night - so naughty! Good to know that deep down inside theres a little rainbow in all of you. Oh yeah and check out Haggards ripped boyfriend - would of figured him the top type but guess I called that wrong! This isn't mature content this is a serious trend in conservative politics. Seriously now, allegations and confessions are piling up I just picked out the four biggest profile cases, don't be surprised if there are more. Not all these guys are proved guilty but you read it and evaluate it. Look around - new republicans on the block? Do you feel safe as a homophobic straight man? By the way anyone wanna pitch in on making a Republican Hotties 2008 calender?

POPSAmerica’s Toe-Tapping Menace
More: In other words, not only did these men have nice families, they had nice families who seemed to believe what the fathers loudly preached about the sanctity of marriage.Mr. Humphreys called this paradox “the breastplate of righteousness.” The more a man had to lose by having a secret life, the more he acquired the trappings of respectability: “His armor has a particularly shiny quality, a refulgence, which tends to blind the audience to certain of his practices. To others in his everyday world, he is not only normal but righteous — an exemplar of good behavior and right thinking.” Mr. Humphreys even anticipated the vehement denials of men who are outed: “The secret offender may well believe he is more righteous than the next man, hence his shock and outrage, his disbelieving indignation, when he is discovered and discredited.” This last sentence brings to mind the hollow refutations of figures at the center of many recent public sex scandals, heterosexual and homosexual, no

POPSSen. Larry Craig and the Forbidden Fruit You know, as I was reading the news, and, I admit, chuckling smugly, (sorry, but I have to have fun every now and then!) it occurred to me that our presumptions about this whole thing might be wrong... When it comes to these Homo/Homophones like Ted Haggard and Mark Foley just to name the most recently prominent ones, we normally take the somewhat Freudian view that these men are closeted homosexuals who repress their desire, which manifests itself in the form of an over-reaction, homophobia. But I wonder, couldn't it be the other way around? Could years of horror at homosexuality and crusading against gays breed in these men an insatiable curiosity? Now to be clear, I don't think that homophobia could make a person gay, but I certainly think it could make a person very very curious...

POPSStill Trying To Swindle The Masses? Seems Haggards pleas for financial support are questionable, at best. Deplorable, at worst. There was too much of the article to clip, but let's just say that something smells fishy in Denmark.

POPSTed Haggard Begs for Money, Not Forgiveness The Haggard obviously has no shame when it comes to asking people for money. After a few weeks of "treatment" he now claims to be 100% heterosexual. I just wonder how many of his former followers who discovered what a lying phony he is, will be fooled again. It will be very interesting to find out.

POPSPervert Haggard begs for money Does this guy have no shame? He's asking people for money so he and his wife can go to school for counseling. He needs to be receiving it, not giving it. They live in a three quarter of a million dollar home, in a city where the average annual income is about $31,000 and almost 25% live below the poverty level.
