Private Health Insurance is a Defective Product
katsteevns
by katsteevns  11-12-2009    2
DR. STEFFIE WOOLHANDLER: Right. Well, the private insurers are getting millions of mandatory new customers. The taxpayers are going to give subsidies. It’s not going to make healthcare affordable, but it’s going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money to give these subsidies. Private health insurance is a defective product. We know from our studies of bankruptcy that the majority of Americans who face medical bankruptcy start their illness with private health insurance but are bankrupted anyway by gaps in coverage, like co-payments, deductibles and uncovered services.

Pages, Costs, and Agencies Added To The Obama/Pelosi Health Care Behemoth

“Additionally, this bill cuts critical Medicare and Medicaid funding by $628 billion, accounts for nearly $1.2 trillion in tax and fee increases and will explode the scope of government by putting the nation’s health care system in the hands of Washington bureaucrats. The $3 trillion price tag defies common sense " we simply cannot add all this new spending to the government rolls and claim to control the deficit. “If we continue to pile more and more debt on the next generation, they will never be able to get out from under it. The health care system needs reform, but this massive expansion of government, financed by our children and grandchildren, is the wrong way to proceed.” And listen…this is what our government believes will be the cost. But look at programs our government has run historically and you find decades of added costs and overruns that our forced onto the taxpayer. Health Care Takeover Roll Call Vote — and What GOP Rep. Joseph Cao Got from Obama
merrie
by merrie  11-9-2009    1
Well, since he was elected, Cao has backed the S-CHIP expansion, the $108 billion IMF bailout, and the omni-waste spending bill. And he voted to rebuke GOP Rep. Joe Wilson for calling out President Obama on his health care lies. That is a steep price to pay for Rep. William Jefferson’s removal. Can’t the GOP do better? For what it is worth, here is the cheap price the Democrats paid for Cao’s vote: Louisiana Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao on Sunday morning released a statement after he voted as the only Republican in favor of the Democratic health care reform bill. The health care reform bill, dubbed the “Affordable Health Care for America Act” (H.R. 3962), passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a 220 " 215 vote. “Tonight, I voted to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion and to deliver access to affordable health care to the people of Louisiana,” Cao said in a statement released by his office. “I read the versions of the House

Pilocchio's Broken 72-Hour Online "Pledge"
merrie
by merrie  11-5-2009    1
Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so. House members are still negotiating important issues in the bill--whether it will provide taxpayer-funding for abortions, for example. Pelosi is pushing for a Saturday House vote, and a number of big changes will be introduced, likely less than 24 hours before the vote takes place (if in fact it does). The Rules Committee hasn't yet released its resolution, or rule, that must be passed before the bill can move from committee to the floor. The rule will set the terms of debate and determine what amendments are in order. It seems likely that the rule will allow very few, if any, up-or-down votes on amendments on the House floor.

It was in 1964 that the police in Aden city turned their guns on the Brits soldiers and were 'put down' by 45 Commando and the Gordons. Yesterday 5 more young men, and probably more, were gunned down by a rogue policeman and Brown still waffles out his venal apologies to the Nation, and his supporters swallow it hook line and sinker. In N. Ireland the situation is as desperate as when I stood the barricades exactly 40 years ago, and everyone tells how much improved it all is. Get real. The only thing that has happened is that far too many Brits have died, the taxpayer has forked out billions to immoral politicians, both here and abroad, bankers have got richer and politicians haven't the slightest notion of why they have got us into so much doodoo.  War-weary Obama manages a decision … more golf! Boston Herald: WASHINGTON - President Obama has outperformed former President George Bush in a key area - he’s hit the links as many times in nine months as Bush did in nearly three years, political Web sites reported. Politico, a political news and gossip site, and the Chicago Tribune’s The Swamp, reported that CBS’ Mark Knoller - who documents presidential statistics - Tweeted Sunday, “Today - Obama ties Pres. Bush in the number of rounds of golf played in office: 24. Took Bush 2 yrs & 10 months.” The Swamp noted that after the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Bush quit golf, saying, “I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf . . . I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal . . . ” Come on, guys. Iraq was different. That was Bush’s war. Afghanistan? Seeing Through The Lies: The Worst Bill Ever

It "pays for" about six years of program with a decade of revenue, with the heaviest costs concentrated in the second five years. The House also pretends Medicare payments to doctors will be cut by 21.5% next year and deeper after that, "saving" about $250 billion. ObamaCare will be lucky to cost under $2 trillion over 10 years; it will grow more after that. • Expanding Medicaid, gutting private Medicare. All this is particularly reckless given the unfunded liabilities of Medicare"now north of $37 trillion over 75 years. Mrs. Pelosi wants to steal $426 billion from future Medicare spending to "pay for" universal coverage. While Medicare's price controls on doctors and hospitals are certain to be tightened, the only cut that is a sure thing in practice is gutting Medicare Advantage to the tune of $170 billion. Democrats loathe this program because it gives one of out five seniors private insurance options.

The golf-cart boom has followed an IRS ruling that golf carts qualify for the electric-car credit as long as they are also road worthy. These qualifying golf carts are essentially the same as normal golf carts save for adding some safety features, such as side and rearview mirrors and three-point seat belts. They typically can go 15 to 25 miles per hour. In South Carolina, sales of these carts have been soaring as dealerships alert customers to Uncle Sam's giveaway. "The Golf Cart Man" in the Villages of Lady Lake, Florida is running a banner online ad that declares: "GET A FREE GOLF CART. Or make $2,000 doing absolutely nothing!"

Nancy also babbled something about how any taxpayer money being used to pay for the public option would be repaid and how the public option would drive down costs. Because, you see, government is famous for paying taxes back to us and decreasing the cost of stuff. It’s what they’re known for. Wasserman-Schultz said that Pelosi plans to “go and test drive” the new term “competitive option” when she heads back to DC. Goody!!! I’m sure all of us feeble-brained Americans will fall for it, and think it’s a brand spanking new plan. Ya gotta love our leadership’s faith in us!

Another example of wasted taxpayer money. There once was a time when a man would take pride in producing quality and value in exchange for a paycheck, it seems that time is past. Millions of dollars paid out for what can be equated to theft. When you pay someone for exacting specifications and that someone produces substandard results then that someone ripped you off and that amounts to theft. And the Bureau for Overseas Building Operations is ‘considering’ whether to seek reimburdement? How freaking nice of them to ‘consider’ reimbursement. Isn’t anybody in this government going to be held to account for anything it does? America continues to show the world that we can no longer be counted on to build a soundly constructed building, even with $700 million, how the hell are we going to help reconstruct an entire country? This is embarrassing.

But none of that stopped right-wing critics of Obama's alleged march to totalitarianism from piling on. "This is fascism," Rush Limbaugh burbled on his radio show. "They're still privately owned, but they're being run by who? Not even Obama, we're told. The freaking pay czar, who doesn't even have to tell Obama what he's doing. So he doesn't have to stop at the execs; he can limit the pay of the janitors. He can limit the pay of anybody he wants, and pretty soon it's gonna spread beyond companies that took TARP money." Fox News posted a lengthy article wondering whether Feinberg even had the legal power to set the pay caps, though there's broad agreement elsewhere that he does. "If bankers don't challenge this, if they supinely accept it out of fear of what the government will do if they do challenge ... then you have a nation of sheep," Fox's legal analyst, Andrew Napolitano, said.

Obama's Tax-Payer Funded Propaganda Campaign
merrie
by merrie  10-21-2009    1
The President's website starts from the premise of public option--that is what the Left has long desired. Government run health care, aka Single Payer (the government) is what they covet. They know that they'll likely lose seats in 2010, so this is their last, best, and probably only hope of getting the prize. "Reform will stop 'rationing' not increase it": Right now, when a person needs a procedure that is not covered by his insurance company, the individual complains to the doctor and to the insurance company. The doctor asks the insurance company for a review, writes a letter of medical necessity and the insurance company either approves or denies coverage. If the evidence is compelling, they approve. Sometimes this needs to be appeal. Sometimes, yelling on the phone is involved. If the insurance company doesn't approve, the patient can pay for the procedure himself. If the withholding of the procedure harms the patient, the patient sues the insurance company.

Wall Street celebrates bonuses, schools beg for supplies

We see stories like “Recession Pinches Back-to-School Budgets” http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/03/eveningnews/main5361456.shtml and “School budgets dip, class sizes grow” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32156424/ns/us_news-education/ along with reports of Wall Street reaping fat bonuses after being bailed out with taxpayer dollars. Sure, the bailouts were necessary to keep the economy afloat. Or so we are led to believe. And while the wisdom of a Wall Street bailout is being debated there is no debate about whether or not our schools need more money. Should public schools needs be ranked second to Wall Street because schools don’t turn a profit? Actually, if your head is on straight, you can clearly see how schools do turn a profit, but you need to value education above making money in order to see it. If you do, here’s an online charity that connects you to classrooms in need: http://www.donorschoose.org/
